Course Information… …about GCSE Mathematics 2016 Examination Details

Assessment Details

Edexcel 1MA0

The course is assessed at the end of Year 11 by two written papers, each contributing 50% to the final grade. One paper is calculator, the other is non-calculator and each is of length 1 hour 45 minutes. The functional elements of mathematics are assessed on each paper: 30-40% of the Foundation Tier papers 20-30% of the Higher Tier papers. 2 tiers of entry: foundation (C-G) and higher (A*-D)

Course Information The GCSE Mathematics course develops knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts, including Number, Algebra, Geometry, Measures, Statistics and Probability. Pupils are expected to make connections between mathematical concepts and apply the functional elements of mathematics in everyday and real-life situations. All pupils will require basic geometrical equipment and their own scientific calculator. Any calculators from the Casio fx-83 or fx-85 ranges are strongly recommended.

Make sure you know your login for any sites used by your class, such as MyMaths, Mathletics and SAM Learning.

Go through your exercise book and highlight any topics/questions which you need to practise or ask for help on.

Attend the daily lunchtime homework club to ask for support with difficult topics.

Use the ‘Mathematics’ page of the Student Portal to practise past papers under timed conditions.

Use the mark schemes on the Student Portal to check your answers and make corrections.

Complete all the relevant Booster Packs on MyMaths

Use the MathsWatch videos and worksheets to practise problematic topics.

Seek help before homework is due so that you are able to complete the tricky questions.

Read through your notes the night before your next lesson in order to remind yourself of key points from the previous week.

Structure your class work so that important facts are clearly highlighted in order to assist with revision at the end of the course.
