Letter from the President Dear Friends of Lenoir-Rhyne, I want to take this opportunity to offer my personal thanks for your support of our students at Lenoir-Rhyne University. I continue to be proud of and impressed by the accomplished young men and women who grow and mature at Lenoir-Rhyne. Your support makes it possible for us to provide our students with scholarships and to enhance the academic and co-curricular programs that make L-R one of the premier institutions in the South. As you all know, L-R is a very special place. We supply a unique style of education that helps guide students to achieve to their fullest potential in their professional, personal, and spiritual lives. Our graduates become leaders in all aspects of life and pay back dividends to their communities, so our investment in them as students has a significant return for all of us. In these difficult times, your financial support is even more important than ever before. Record numbers of students are seeking admission to Lenoir-Rhyne, and we need to make every possible effort to help them realize their dreams. Only with your assistance are we able to continue to offer the fellowship support that is necessary for them to take advantage of the excellent educational programming at LenoirRhyne. These students will be our future, and your support of them is invaluable to their success. Thank you so much for your partnership with us.

Wayne B. Powell, President Lenoir-Rhyne University

Letter from Jane 2011-2013 Co-Chair, The Fund for Lenoir-Rhyne

Energy, enthusiasm and excitement are the hallmarks of our powerful, growing, thriving university. When we started to exclaim “Rise Up Lenoir-Rhyne, we had no idea the impact those words would inspire. Dynamic growth, change, and amazing progress have enveloped our campus. This year we have a record number of students for the class of 2015! Our reputation as a faith-based university has attracted students from all over the country to seek an education, to grow mentally and spiritually, and to develop a servant heart. Our new athletic fields have produced winning teams and student fellowship. The additions to our sports teams are generating much enthusiasm in the region and have even attracted national media attention. None of this could have happened without our forward-looking administration that has brought both creativity and a sound business plan to Lenoir-Rhyne, which has resulted in our expansion and growth. The reputation of our stellar faculty attracts the best and brightest students. The powerful financial support of alumni and the community has been the foundation of our growth and future. Because we give, the University will continue to Rise Up! Our generosity helps to ensure that Lenoir-Rhyne University continues to be a beacon of excellence in higher education.

Letter from Kathy 2011-2013 Co-Chair, The Fund for Lenoir-Rhyne

With a record year behind us, Lenoir-Rhyne is entering the future stronger than ever. And why? Because of you who believe as strongly as I that L-R is poised and ready to claim its place as one of the premier institutions of learning in the nation. Many of us remember the L-R of yesteryear when Mauney and Schaeffer were still dorms and Highland Hall housed freshman men. It is a true testimony to our alumni, to the strong leadership from administration, and to our students who are not only coming here to be educated but to learn what life is about, that we are here today celebrating our future. As we go forward I hope each of us will examine ourselves and remember what it was about Lenoir-Rhyne that brought us here and what it was about L-R that made us who we are today. Whoever we are, we wouldn’t be the same without the alumni, the administration, the faculty, and the students who made our years here some of the best of our lives. Look around us. There are new buildings and new construction everywhere. What an exciting time to be part of L-R’s future! Though the students of today are different from us in many ways, they are the same in many ways, too. The alumni, administration, and students of the past helped us be who we have become and now it is our turn to help the future generations do the same.

Kathy McKenzie

The President’s Society The President’s Society at Lenoir-Rhyne University is composed of individuals, corporations, and foundations that generously support the University and its mission with gifts of $1000 or more per year. Members serve as goodwill ambassadors for the University, encouraging and inspiring alumni and friends to join them in providing exceptional educational opportunities for our students. At Lenoir-Rhyne, approximately 90% of our students receive financial aid. All gifts to the University ultimately result in more financial aid being available to our students. Your partnership makes it possible to continue offering life-changing opportunities to students. We are grateful for your trust and pledge to be good stewards of your resources. Established in 1997, the President’s Society recognizes individuals, corporate, and foundation donors who have made gifts to the President’s Club, Tower Club, HACAWA, Fair Stars, and Old Main levels. Members of the President’s Society set the pace for all gifts to the University. They inspire our alumni and friends to join them in supporting the mission of Lenoir-Rhyne. We recognize our charter members and sincerely thank you for your membership in the President’s Society of Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Membership Your generous gift of $1000 or more during the fiscal year, June 1, 2010 – May 31, 2011, entitled you to membership in the President’s Society and enables the University to continue providing the unparalleled educational opportunities for which Lenoir-Rhyne is recognized. Our University has many wonderful opportunities and this year the Office of Annual Giving has developed a new program, Circle of Giving. This program will highlight our students and their willingness to serve others. During the past academic year Lenoir-Rhyne students volunteered in local shelters, built houses, and read to school-aged children. These acts of service totaled over 87,000 hours of service in the community. Through gifts to The Fund for Lenoir-Rhyne, students can continue to receive a remarkable education while learning how to serve their community. We are honored to recognize 427 President’s Society members for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. What a tribute that is to your belief in the work of L-R! Thank you for your unwavering support. We ask that you will join us again for 2011-2012 as our partner in shaping students’ lives. A President’s Society pledge card and envelope are included for your convenience.

Circle of Giving Whether it is the sound of a hammer building a home for the homeless, a story being read to a child in a shelter, a meal being served to a senior citizen, or a community being rescued from a disaster, you will likely find Lenoir-Rhyne University students involved. In 2011 our students volunteered in excess of 87,000 hours throughout America and around the world. They served unselfishly and without pay. Should they have been paid only minimum wage, their hours of giving would have amounted to $750,000! Our students live the Lenoir-Rhyne Mission Statement, “In pursuit of the development of the whole person, Lenoir-Rhyne University seeks to liberate mind and spirit, clarify personal faith, foster physical wholeness, build a sense of community, and promote responsible leadership for service to the world.” The Joint Boards, Administration, Faculty, and Friends of Lenoir-Rhyne have joined together to create a Circle of Giving. This Circle honors the service of our students by giving back to their education! There is now an opportunity to honor the students’ service by paying for an hour of their volunteer time. The hourly amount chosen is $10. One can donate for one hour, for a day, for a week, for a month. All of the money goes right back to the students in programs, scholarships, materials, and needs of the academic community. The excitement around this opportunity in just one meeting resulted in donations for 700 hours of student volunteerism. The money from that meeting became the seed for the Circle of Giving. The giving continues. If you are a member of a group, a church, or a family that honors service, we invite you to include the Circle of Giving in your plans. If all of us only donate for one hour of our students’ time, the benefits for our students would be astronomical.

18

Student Aid It is a Lenoir-Rhyne tradition to make wonderful educational opportunities possible for all students. Gifts to The Fund for Lenoir-Rhyne provide the opportunity for students to learn both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to simply being able to attend L-R, your gifts have given students the opportunity to:

- Travel abroad to get a first-hand look at the global economy - Conduct summer award-winning genetic research - To meet and learn from Pulitzer Prize winning authors

Today more than ever, students need your continued support. Tuition alone does not cover the full cost of an L-R education. In fact, it only covers approximately 60% of the cost of operating the University. Generous alumni and friends provide the remainder of the cost. We encourage you to help a student and make great things happen on the Lenoir-Rhyne campus by making a gift.

19

Thank You We thank our past President’s Society members. Each year Lenoir-Rhyne looks to these members to be leaders in providing support to its mission. Leadership gifts at the President’s Society level ensure that LenoirRhyne University can continue to provide the best education for bright, deserving students while attracting and retaining the best faculty. In order to continue our achievements and accomplishments, additional resources are needed. We ask you to invite fellow alumni, parents, and friends of the University to join you as members of the President’s Society, a society of leaders.
