TIMOTHY HOUSE TIMES The Fourth Graders Are Back from Washington D.C. ...And they are excited to share their stories with you! After a long 4 hour bus ride last month to Washington D.C., grade 4 was rewarded with a picnic lunch at the National Mall, and later went to visit three amazing museums. The 4th graders went to visit: The Natural History Museum, where they saw fossils and more. One of the favored exhibitions was the Gem Gallery, where the groups looked at amazingly cool gems and minerals. They even saw the Hope Diamond, which is said to be cursed. AIR AND SPACE The fourth graders also visited the Air and Space Museum, where there were planes and helicopters hung from the ceilings. Finally, one of the boys’ favorites: The American History Museum, where the original Flag of the United States is displayed. Later, the students went to a food court for dinner, before visiting the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials. The Memorials were two places where the 4th graders could reflect on the thousands of people who died fighting for the freedom of this country. “This is a place where no matter what religion or belief the people were, they are honored and remembered here,” 4A student, Akash Chopra, said. After their exhausting first day, the 4A and 4B students got on the bus and went to the Sheraton hotel, where they’d be staying with roommates.

DAY TWO The next morning, at 7:00 am, they received annoying robotic wake up calls on the room phones. At 7: 30 am, they all met downstairs in the breakfast room for yummy bacon and scrambled eggs. By 8:00 am, the grade 4 students and their chaperones were getting ready to board the bus and start another great day in D.C.

They traveled to the The Capitol Building for a tour and The Library of Congress, which is considered the biggest in the world. The National Building Museum was another favorite, where the students visited the PLAY WORK BUILD exhibition and built structures with large foam blocks and shapes. “Play Work Build was really amazing,” said 4A student, Chloe Droumenq. DISCO BOWLING Later, they headed to Carmine’s for an Italian dinner, and then went to Bowlmor and had a blast bowling and dancing in the black lights.

Picture going inside a movie theater and seeing that amazing movie with that yummy popcorn and candy! The Croods is all about dinosaurs and monsters who chase them around that’s why they live in a cave. One day, all the rocks fall on their cave and destroy it to pieces. The girl in the family named Eep, finds a “new world,” and the family travels through the forest to survive. The reason that they go to the “new world” is because they need to find a new cave. Eep, a crazy girl, has a mind full of questions, explores a lot, and has her own crazy ideas. One night she snuck out of the cave and she met a boy named Guy and his pet named Belt who helps them on their journey. Eep’s family is HUGE! She has a mom, dad, a brother named Thunk, her insane grandmother, and her baby sister, Sandy. The Croods is the best movie ever.

THE FIGHT FOR THE BEST TEAM The fourth grade has chosen their four top soccer teams, which are Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester, and Arsenal. Barcelona’s team, located in Spain, was created on November 29, 1899. Chelsea, in England, was made on March 10, 1905. Manchester, in England, was founded in 1878 and Arsenal, in United Kingdom (UK). was made in 1886.

FROM DOWN UNDER TO NEW YORK Australian, fifth grade teacher, Ms. Watson has been teaching for 10 years. She says she has a very big family, and she loved teaching the younger kids and finally decided to become a teacher. Before coming to Dwight, she taught Kindergarten in London.

A GREAT HELPER Ms. Watson has blond hair and is a very nice, efficient and generous teacher. She always helps out when you are stuck in schoolwork. “She’s a great teacher,” says Hugo Droumenq, a sixth grader and my brother. She does a great job on Exhibition, helping the students design successful projects and presentations. Ms. Watson used to live in London and she has always enjoyed going to back with the fifth grade students and getting to know the students outside of school (without giving them homework). She currently teaches with Mr. Posner and she has been at Dwight for two years. -Chloe Droumenq

SPRING 2013

THE KICKOFF OF THE NFL DRAFT KICK IT OFF Every spring, there is the NFL Draft. It is located in New York City because that is where the main headquarters of the NFL are. This year, the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the draft because they had the worst record in the 2012 season (2 wins and 14 losses). The first pick got the Chiefs’ Eric Fisher from Central Michigan.

Eric Fisher

Luke Joeckel JAGUARS DRAFT Next in line in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Luke Joeckel from Texas A&M. I thought Luke Joeckel should have been drafted before Eric Fisher because Fisher came out of a small college and didn’t play against very good teams, but he has a lot of talent in him as a football player. A lot of pressure is on him because he is the first pick in the draft, and I don’t know if he can handle all this pressure in training camp and on the field. Then came my favorite team, the 4 and 12 Oakland Raiders. The

Raiders needed draft picks so they traded their first round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a first round and a second round pick. This is the story of the top three picks of the draft but if you want more information about the rest of the 2013 NFL draft, keep reading! SECOND ROUND In the second round, three guys stood out to me. One of them is Manti Te’o. He is a great athlete for his position, linebacker. Another player that stood out was Geno Smith. He was meant to go to the Arizona Cardinals but then suddenly, the Oakland Raiders released Carson Palmer and the Cardinals snatched him up. I thought Geno Smith would still go to Arizona as a back-up player. He ended up going to the NYC Jets in the second round (Trevor Holzer is really happy... I hope!). Talking about the Jets, I spoke with Mr. Posner, fifth grade teacher, and he said, “I think the Jets overall in the draft did quite well.” I would agree but Geno Smith was a risky move because now they are going to have to cut a few quarterbacks to make room. Plus, I don’t know if Geno fits with Rex Ryan. THIRD ROUND I liked a lot of players in the third round: Blidi Wreh-Wilson, Sam Montgomery, Gooden Zaviar, Jordan Reed, Damontre Moore, Travis Kelce, Sio Moore, Mike Glennon, Terrance Williams, Terron Armstead, Keenan Allen, Dallas Thomas, Markus Wheaton, John Jenkins, Stedman Bailey, Tyrann Mathieu, Shawn Logan, and Corey Lemonier.

QB MANIA The fourth round might have been the most exciting part of the draft because four quarterbacks got drafted in one round. The first man that got drafted in this round was surprisingly a QB from USC, Matt Barkley. I would rank Matt Barkley as only my 2nd or 3rd favorite QB for the fourth round because he was on a great team. So you wouldn’t know if he was good, because all the wide receivers could catch almost any type of ball thrown to them. Plus, he wasn’t under much pressure because USC’s defense was very good, so Barkley could have many scoring opportunities. It took 11 picks till the next QB was drafted and that QB went to the Oakland Raiders. Remember that the Raiders got Matt Flynn from the Seahawks and they dropped Carson Palmer, so they needed a backup QB! I think Tyler Wilson is the best QB in this draft, not because I like the Raiders but because he has a great work ethic. THE SAD ENDING About 250 players were drafted in three days. I’ve been doing research on almost every athlete I mentioned. I think that Zeke Motta is the last player with high enough grades that might do well in the draft. There is one thing we won’t know for a while though. College can be very different than the NFL, so you don’t really know if a player is good until they are in the second or third year in their career. I look forward to see what these players can do next year. -Alex Sturza

THE ADVENTURES OF DANCE Katherine Freedmen is a bright and sunny girl. She is one of many in Timothy House who are very talented. She is 9 years old and started dancing at age 2. She started being on a team when she was 5 years old and ended at age 8. She may have stopped competing (I bet she’ll continue competing when she’s older) but she continues to go to all the classes she can. She dances ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and a dance, where it’s dancing in a gymnastics way. She has competed repeatedly at these following places: Atlanta, Disney World, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Miami. COMPETITION AHEAD Katherine plans to compete again in a couple of years. Her teacher in Miami is Marie Gashner. In New York, her teacher, Lisa, teaches her jazz and tap. She also has other teachers. Katherine has a lot of dreams, but her biggest dream is to dance in Times Square, someday. I would totally recommend her as a role model. I know she’s one of mine! - Jane Barbero

THE FOURTH GRADERS ARE BACK FROM D.C. continued from page 1 By the time they got back to the hotel, the 4th grade was exhausted. The next morning, they had breakfast and loaded their bags onto the bus. But, that wasn’t the last the grade 4 saw of Washington D.C! Thanks to amazing teachers, the grade 4 was able to squeeze in one more museum: The Newseum,

which was absolutely awesome. The FBI exhibit was definitely a favorite. There, they saw old newspapers about cases that the FBI solved. The 4th grade left D.C. on the bus... they were all sad, but they loved the experience! - Giulia Montrone and Skyler Rosenberg

MINECRAFT TIPS AND TRICKS MINECRAFT TNT Minecraft is a computer game, where you collect materials and make new objects out of these materials. The goal is to build new objects to help you find the portal and defeat the Ender Dragon. Minecraft is very popular amongst Dwight students. There has even been a big hit song about Minecraft TNT. It’s called “Minecraft TNT” and it’s a parody of the Dynamite song. There are also ways to explode TNT in the game. One way is with a button, another is with a lever. One TNT can only explode a tree or two. Daniel Bergevin, a fourth grade student, says that if you have TNT you’re better than a creeper. He also says if you’re trapped in a corner with zombies with only TNT and flint and steel he wouldn’t use the TNT because he would set the house on fire. MINECRAFT TEKKIT TNT Minecraft Tekkit is Minecraft but with more armor, weapons, blocks, skins and more. The best thing in Minecraft Tekkit is the atomic bomb. One of these can do a lot of damage (but only safely in the game). You need red stone and a lever or a button. If

you pull the lever it would make a massive explosion. You would find iron or gold. Daniel Bergevin says that he likes nucking stuff and he uses it to mine. He also says that it’s fun. MINECRAFT NETHER The Nether is a place with lava, ghosts, and Pig Zombies in the game of Minecraft. The pig zombies will not hurt you, only if you attack them. To get to The Nether you need: 10 or 14 obsidian (block), flint and steel (item). If you put the flint and steel on the obsidian it will turn purple. If you step into it you will magically disappear into The Nether... ENDER DRAGON The Ender Dragon is the ruler of the world. You need the Ender Eye to get to the Ender world. The Ender World is covered with endermen and their towers. The Ender Dragon is black with purple eyes as huge as 50 marbles combined. It also has huge wings almost as big as a tornado. It will will attack if you get close to it. There will be endermen on the towers and the land at the end of the Ender world. The ender world’s core is made out of spunge. If you dig down you will find sponge. -Elijah McKillop and Cormac (Mac) Bradley
