Dear Dwight Parents, Alumni, and Friends, We are delighted to welcome you to The Dwight School Foundation’s 2017 Spring Benefit. Tonight, we are reminded that childhood is a critically important - indeed, pivotal - moment in life. As members of the Dwight family, we share a commitment to nurturing, educating, and supporting students along their path to adulthood. This is THEIR time!

As we celebrate our students’ unlimited capacity to imagine and innovate to make the world a better place, we thank you; your generosity has a dramatic impact on their lives every day.

We are also grateful to The Dwight School Foundation, which supports faculty professional development; student financial aid; and innovation grants that equip young entrepreneurs with the requisite skills, experience, and funding to take their novel ideas beyond the classroom and into the marketplace. Our Spark Tank incubator, which is now in its second full year, has quickly become one of Dwight’s most unique calling cards. No other independent school offers children as young as kindergarteners the inspiring mentorship opportunities, expert guidance, and grants that Spark Tank does.

It is also noteworthy that Dwight faculty receive among the highest levels of professional development support available at independent schools in New York City. This support goes above and beyond what the School provides to ensure that faculty remain on the cutting edge in education, charge ahead with curricular innovations, and inspire our students to learn in new and creative ways. Also thanks to The Foundation, our community is enriched deeply by families who receive financial aid and bring new ideas to campus.

We deeply appreciate The Dwight School Foundation’s unwavering support and tonight, as we enjoy the festivities, we have a number of people to thank for their tireless efforts in making this event a success: the Board of Trustees, members of the Spring Benefit Committee, staff of The Foundation Advancement Office, and our auction donors. A Message from the 2017 Spring Benefit Co-Chairs: The Spring Benefit is The Dwight School Foundation’s largest fundraising event of the year and we could not be more honored to be the Chairs of this worthy cause. Along with our incredible team of 36 volunteers, we have been working enthusiastically since October to bring you an exciting and successful evening on April 7th.

As parent volunteers, we recognize the importance of supporting teachers and students; and the impact that faculty professional development, student financial aid, and Spark Tank innovation grants have on our children’s futures. This is THEIR TIME! We are grateful to have found a school dedicated to “igniting the spark of genius in every child,” which encourages students to pursue their passions while educating them to become the next generation of global leaders.

As a leading figure in the development of Czechoslovakian photography from the 1940s through the mid-1960s, Honty is celebrated for his daring experimentation in photography created while living in an oppressive political and social climate. Honty was known for his diversity of subject matter, including artful photographs of classic sculpture, candid street photography, abstracts, and landscape images, which explored the unconscious or subconscious surreal world. Together with Josef Sudek, Honty founded the photographic section of the Mánes Society of Creative Artists in Czechoslovakia after World War II. He also worked with the illustrated magazine Pestrý týden. SILENT 1209 ENORMOUSLY SMALL ISABEL TURBAN PAINTING Isabel Turban’s abstract paintings are created from transfers, acrylic, charcoal, and other mixed media, applied in layers onto canvas or paper. Throughout her process, maps are the most significant inspiration for her work. Isabel has collected maps of various places she has traveled to over the past several years of her life. These maps represent happy moments, cultural experiences, and political history, which are manifested in her finished paintings. Ultimately, the physical places in the maps become less significant as the memories become more dominant. Silent Auction: All About Art SILENT 1210 DIANA HOROWITZ OIL PAINTING GREEN TANKS, 2006 This gem of a painting entitled Green Tanks, 2006, is a quintessential work by New York artist Diana Horowitz, which explores a historic section of the Gowanus Canal. A rhythmic row of quietly heroic, mint-green silos stands bathed in sunlight, as reflections dance in the water below. Diana Horowitz is represented by Hirschl & Adler Modern, NY. She received her M.F.A. from Brooklyn College and completed graduate studies at the Tyler School of Art Program in Rome. She has received numerous grants and awards, including those from the Ballinglen Foundation, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and the Ingram Merrill Foundation. In 2005, she was elected as a member of the National Academy of Design in New York.

Horowitz’s work is found in numerous private and public collections, and her work has been widely exhibited in San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Boston and New York. Oil on linen mounted on panel, 6” x 8” inches.
