It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to The Dwight School Foundation’s 2015 Spring Benefit – Shake it Up! Tonight we celebrate our School’s 142 year history of encouraging our students and faculty to “shake it up,” to think outside the box, to dream big and use their individual spark to ignite a better world. The Foundation’s enduring commitment to supporting faculty professional development grants and student financial aid is stronger than ever. Building on this strength, the Foundation is excited to add a third category of support – innovation grants. Through this new Spark of Innovation Program, students and teachers can apply to the Foundation for funding to take their ideas beyond the classroom. While top universities have been investing in bringing novel student work to market, Dwight is introducing this opportunity to younger students in kindergarten through grade 12. With this new pathway of financial support, students and teachers, or any combination thereof, can tap into their entrepreneurial spirits and develop their ideas into real-world applications. This is an especially exciting time to be part of the Dwight community. I hope that you take a moment to enjoy tonight’s festivities with old friends — and meet new ones. A Message from the 2015 Spring Benefit Co-Chairs: We could not be more excited for the Spring Benefit to be upon us. Our team of 18 parent volunteers has been meeting regularly since the fall to bring about an evening of fun, fundraising and celebrating Dwight. As new parents in 2013 who both moved to New York from other countries, we joined the Committee to make friends and experience a sense of community. One year later, we found ourselves so grateful for how happy our respective children were, and for their extraordinary teachers, that we wanted to step up even more to support this wonderful School. The Spring Benefit not only raises funds for faculty professional development, student financial aid and innovation grants, it is the single largest fundraising event of the year.
