First published by The Dance Centre in 1997, the BC Dance Directory aims to provide an overview of British Columbiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s diverse dance scene. To compile this edition, information was requested from dance organizations across the province. Due to space restrictions, listings are brief, however more extensive details are available from The Dance Centre or the companies, artists and organizations themselves.

The Directory has a lifespan of two years. The information presented here is accurate as the publication goes to press, but the dance scene will continue to evolve rapidly; please contact us for up to date information. A B O U T T H E DA N C E C E N T R E Established in 1986 as a not-for-profit resource centre for the dance profession and the public in British Columbia, The Dance Centre has expanded into a multifaceted organization offering a range of activities unparalleled in Canadian dance. I am a Vancouver-based solo Bharatanatyam performer. After my initial training with Mandala Arts in Vancouver, I now receive advanced training under illustrious Gurus, Priyadarsini Govind and A. Lakshman Swamy in Chennai. I primarily do solo work, but have also been part of duet productions with various companies including Mandala Arts, Shakti Dance and Co.ERASGA in Vancouver and Dakshina Dance Company in Washington DC. Along with performing I also continue my advanced dance training in Bharatanatyam every year in Chennai, India with my aforementioned Gurus and in the adjunct disciplines of Carnatic music and Nattuvangam (rhythm) with B. Seetarama Sarma in Chennai. I have performed as part of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, at the BC Victory ceremonies and the Canada Dance Festival, as one of two dancers chosen by Mandala Arts. I am the first South Asian artist to have received the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award as ‘best emerging dance artist’ in 2010. I have also had the privilege of opening the annual Gait to the Spirit festival in Vancouver which celebrates classical Indian dance in the city. I have been part of most festivals here in Vancouver, and in BC. I am available to perform as a soloist and also have duet productions to showcase.
