The Church's theme for the Month of April is The Message of the Resurrection which beckons more than a single layer of truth, rather draws us to a much profound meaning of God's sacrifice for all mankind. We received Salvation through His blood on the cross and looking at every minute detail of His dreadful ordeal on the tree of shame, it would seem that our arduous journey to a sanctified life is but a blur in comparison. More importantly His resurrection assures us that He is victorious and no single sin has not been forgiven that we cannot relish on the love and new life He has gifted us; therefore, compelling each one to march on and complete the race towards a holy life. May this 5th issue of the Burning Bush Newsletter imparts these messages on every article that you are about to read and may the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ be reflected in each story we share. On page 27, we give you updates regarding the Bible Study group that display the members’ unwavering faith to persevere in their study of the Scripture. Correspondingly, we feature the final defense of our brethren as a completion of their study in the Doctrine of Salvation for a lengthy span of roughly a year. These are just a few of the write-ups that we are excited for you to relive each time you turn the page. Our work is not in vain for the Lord we serve is Worthy as conveyed in Revelation 4:11, Though are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for though hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. This in mind, we are humbled and overwhelmed to once again serve the Lord through this newest issue of the Burning Bush. To God be the Glory! Junila F. Salundagit Editor-In-Chief

Christian Greetings! Welcome to the BBBC’s 5th issue of the Burning Bush’s Newsletter! It is our joy to keep you updated of the activities of the church here in the UAE and abroad. With your benevolent support to its growing ministries, we can assure you that we can bring glory to His name and win more friends and souls for Christ. The “Message of the Resurrection” as the theme for this month brings us back to the origin of sin. When Adam and Eve fell to sin because of disobedience, God pronounced spiritual and physical death to the pinnacle of His creation. This penalty for the sin that they have committed were handed down to the generations after, until the last soul of this earth (Romans 5:12). But because of His love to His precious creation, He sent His Son Jesus to die for them on the cross (John 3:16; Romans 5:8), to redeem them from the bondage of sin (Ephesians 1:7). Finally, the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with numerous witnesses destroys the integrity of those who falsely accused Him. In contrast, that important event brings joy of revival to His weakened disciples, giving them assurance that they, too, will experience the same victory of resurrection when they depart this earth (1 Corinthians 15:1-58). Today, true Christians need not worry nor doubt about their final destiny. The Word of God guarantees us that when Jesus comes in glory with His mighty angels, all His believers will be resurrected and will be given a new glorified body to live with him forever (1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). May the Lord bless you with unwavering faith and hope as the days of His coming is fast approaching!

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

THE

INTO WORD

What did it accomplish?

Clearly the resurrection of Jesus Christ is at the very heart of the Christian faith. It is the climax of the work and ministry of the Messiah. If you remove this truth from Christianity, you don’t have Christianity at all. But the compelling question lies on: ‘What did it accomplish? What does it mean for us today?’ And if someone 2,000 years back did return to life after being dead and buried for 3 days, what does it prove? Many would not argue based on facts of history and in the Bible that Jesus was indeed a good teacher, an upright man, a miracle worker, and a Superstar in His time. But all of these would mean nothing if He hadn’t fulfilled the great promise of Heaven for those who will believe in Him that proves that indeed, there is life after death! When the promise was given to us as it was written “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21” That’s exactly what God the Father wanted, to save sinners like you and me. But to accomplish the redemption plan, Christ offered His life, shed his blood to die on the cross, rise again the 3rd day, according to the scriptures. Jesus claims in many occasions: And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. Mark 8:31 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. John 2:19 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. Mark 9:31 Right there, Jesus is predicting His own death on the cross in the hands of the Roman Empire. But it didn’t end there, He said… “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:1-3 What He was saying was “Don’t be troubled, I’m going back to the Father’s house to get a place ready for you and I’ll be back to take you with me because that’s where you will be soon…Heaven!” His resurrection is the guarantee of every believer the gift of eternal life, the forgiveness of sin, the deliverance from the penalty of Hell, and ultimately, the salvation of our soul! So what did it accomplish? It is our salvation. Listen carefully and meditate on this wonderful truth… But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Romans 4:24-25 He was raise again for our justification! If Jesus never rose, He couldn’t give us life. Our faith would be meaningless and vain (1Cor 15:14-17). Our short stay on this tiny sphere called earth is but a hopeless state. But He did arise and fulfilled the promise just as He would: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. John 11:2

The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is the key to our own resurrection and that is the completion of God’s saving grace to us. Claim the promise; put your faith in Him alone!

RESURRECTION

Christ the firstfruits Suggested Further Reading: Romans 6:5–11

“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” 1 Corinthians 15:20

Why is it that the resurrection of Christ is of so much importance? Upon it we have said that the whole system of Christianity rests; for ‘if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain… ye are yet in your sins’ (1 Corinthians 15:14,17). The divinity of Christ finds its surest proof in his resurrection, since the apostle tells us that Christ was ‘declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead’ (Romans 1:4). It would not be unreasonable to doubt his deity if he had not risen. Moreover, Christ’s sovereignty also depends upon his resurrection, for Scripture affirms: ‘to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living’ (Romans 14:9). Again, our justification, that choice blessing of the covenant, hangs upon Christ’s resurrection He was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification’ (Romans 4:25). Our very regeneration depends upon his resurrection, for Peter, speaking by the Holy Spirit, exclaims, ‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead’ (1 Peter 1:3). And most certainly our ultimate resurrection rests here; for ‘if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you’ (Romans 8:11). If Christ be not risen, then we shall not rise; but if he be risen, then they who are asleep in Christ have not perished, but in their flesh shall surely behold their God. For meditation: A great emphasis was placed by the preachers of the early church upon the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ as well as upon his death (Acts 2:24,31; 3:15,26; 4:10,33; 5:30; 10:40–41; 13:30,33–34,37; 17:3, 18,31; 26:23). Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834‐92) was England's best‐known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861 the congregation moved permanently to the newly constructed Metropolitan Tabernacle. Source: http://www.spurgeon.org/aboutsp.htm

Jesus after He rose, said that he had flesh and bones. Luke 24:38-40 (38) And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? (39) Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. (40) And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet. The empty tomb and the ordered grave clothes when the disciples examined the tomb. Mark 16:6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. Christ ate food with His disciples after He rose. Luke 24:41-45 (41) And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? (42) And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. (43) And he took it, and did eat before them. (44) And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. (45) Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. People recognized Him after His resurrection, even the nail prints. John 20:25-27 (25) The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. (26) And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. (27) Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

Christ predicted that He would rise bodily. John 2:19, 22. (19) Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. (22) When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. The mass psychological change of the disciples from being cowards at Christ’s death, to become bold preachers after the resurrection. How else can this mass psychological change be explained? Over 500 people saw Christ after He had risen from the dead over a 40 days period. So convinced were they that they were willing to die as martyrs than to deny Christ’s resurrection. Would you die for an event that you were not sure about? These witnesses have a high credibility having given the world its highest moral code. The change from Saturday to Sunday as the main day of worship. The Sabbath being so important to the Jews would not have been dropped by the Jews except for an immensely important event, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The church’s existence can only be explained by the miracle of Christ’s resurrection. The Angels in the tomb declared that He had risen from the dead as He said. Luke 24:6-8 (6) He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, (7) Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. (8) And they remembered his words. The women who met Christ on this morning held Christ’s feet. Matthew 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

The Outcome of A Dream Come True Sis. Sherelyn sembrano

When God created the world, a chorus of angels sang for Him. God asked Job if he was around to observe the magnificence of creation, "while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy" (Job 38:7).

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834 – 92) | www.biblegateway.com

“The Bible shows us that God likes all mankind to sing to Him. It is clear that the role of the choir in the Church is a ministry – not performance. To make it clear, ministry means service.”

Taking part in worship services as a choir member is a sacred thing and should not be taken lightly. It falls under stewardship – the giving of time and talents to the Lord. It involves sacrifice which comes from willing and committed hearts to give glory to Him. Choir members render praises to God through singing. Their roles do not end on Friday since being in the choir is a commitment. One must have an attitude of service, striving to give his very best to God. Mutually, we feel better in serving the Lord through singing for Him.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Gratified Heart

It is my first time to become a church choir member and it is a dream comes true. I am happy that old members are very supportive to those who are new; giving them warm welcome and making them feel comfortable. I, myself experience it. If God has blessed you with the gift of singing, give it back to Him by joining the church’s ministry of choral music. Keep in mind: one can never outgive the Lord. "It is a great thing to serve the Lord, “walking in the light of God." Knowing in my heart that somehow I have given back to the Lord something out of the many blessings He granted me, creates joy and peace deep within. I have this gratified heart to my God because of a dream come true considering singing in the choir a privilege to serve the King of kings. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God (1 Peter 4:10).

King’s Men Basketball Fellowship

More than just a Game! Bro. Patrick Torio

First of all, I would like to thank the Lord for giving me chance to share how blessed I am to be with my brothers in Christ, my fellow BBBC King’s Men. As it is written in Acts 2:42 "And they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." Fellowship with brethren gives one the chance to share ideas and thoughts. In Addition, it highlights camaraderie. January 9, 2015 nighttime is BBBC King’s Men’s Basketball Fellowship and the venue is Kuwaiti Girls’ School Gymnasium. Basketball is a physical game that comprises team work, perseverance in communication and deliverance of direction to one’s team mate. It is a blessing, indeed, to see everyone in our devotion lead by Bro. Melvin, before we start the game. Basketball is a team sport. It has rules and goal played with two teams. One cannot play this game independently; he has to work with his teammates. It made me think that the concept of playing this game applied to our life as believers of Jesus Christ. As we go along with our Basketball fellowship, I was inspired with the unity of the brethren. The importance of each other’s presence is a blessing to one another. Fellowship with fellow believers gives us the opportunity to use our gifts, helping encourage and support each other in our faith. It is not just being together or having our needs meet for our satisfaction, but as Ephesians 4 says, it is our responsibility.

“Psalm 133:1”

Be hol d h ow good a n d h ow ple as ant it is f o r b ret hre n t o dwell t o get her i n Unit y.

God’s Word makes it clear that all of us – believers are the body of Christ. All of us have purpose. If we are not unified, the body is not healthy and will not be effective. Regardless of how we might “feel,” God has intentionally placed each of us in the body of Christ with important roles to play. Therefore, we must take responsibility to act on this awareness. He is not interested in our excuses; He expects us to obey and follow His command.

Thank You Lord for such time like this – seeing each brother gets tired physically and yet still finds reason to smile!

Should Christian Celebrate Christmas? Bro. Rued Almadilla

ne of the most celebrated festivities in the world is O Christmas. Even in places like UAE, which is a Muslim

The Nordic people cut trees & decorate it, with bonfire as part of the celebration. "Saturnalia" – Became an ancient Roman festival of Saturn in December, which was a period of general merrymaking and was a predecessor of Christmas. It was celebration for 7 days, from 17th – 24th of December. (Source: The New Oxford Dictionary of English)

country, the celebration of the season can be felt, too. In fact, one of the most expensive Christmas trees in the world is displayed in one of the hotels in Abu Dhabi. Growing up as a Catholic, I always look forward for the Yuletide season. Seeing twinkling lights create a good ambiance around. Some would say and claim that this is the season of giving and showing kindness toward others. There is, indeed, a great excitement in receiving wrapped gifts!

Interestingly, the bible itself speaks of this tradition of cutting trees which is found in Jeremiah 10:1-4. (1)Hear ye the word

which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: (2)Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. (3) For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. (4) They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

But, is this type of celebration biblical? The truth is, many are ignorant about the true meaning of “Christmas”. Even conservative Christian circles are hooked in on how the world celebrates what they call the day when Christ was born. Others think that it is also a good time to share the gospel and tell the unbelieving world the real meaning of the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Pastor Erwin Concepcion conducted a seminar on 24th December 2014 at Manama Villa No. 7. The seminar intends to educate BBBC members on what are the common misconceptions about celebrating Christmas. Scrutinizing the word “Christmas” itself can help us find out what is the celebration’s real meaning. The word “Christ” means the Messiah or the Anointed One (Luke 2:11-14) and the word “mas” came from the word mass which is centered in the celebration of the Eucharist. The priest raises the wafer (the body of Christ) and the chalice (with wine symbolizing the blood of Christ), and prays that these elements will be transformed into the real body and blood of Christ. This Catholic doctrine is called transubstantiation. Then the priest shares this “real body of Christ” to those who participates in this ordinance called Holy Communion to eat Jesus’ real flesh and blood (spiritually without knowing it). The celebration falls on December 25 which is during winter season. This has its pagans’ root also. Winter celebration is a Nordic or Scandinavian tradition in celebrating the coming of winter, meeting the winter solstice goddess called

"Saturnalia". 12

Christmas season is also far from the true meaning of celebrating the birth of Jesus because many indulge themselves on “Christmas parties” where food and liquor are served and get drunk afterwards. Also during this time, firecracker, fruits and toy businesses are very in demand. Santa Claus, Rudolph the red nose reindeer, mistletoe, Christmas trees and lights generally symbolize Christmas and are included in the so called celebration of Christ birth whereas it has no relation at all in the coming of our Lord Jesus as the Savior of the World. Understanding the truth in

the bible will set us free from the traditions that many are enslaved. (John 8:32) Others might accuse those real Christians who do not engage in “Christmas celebration” and stand on the biblical truth of being dogmatic. But the word of God opposes this pagan practice. I believe that it is

better to please God than to please men.

“Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” Ephesians 5:10-11

In The New Year Sis. Angeli Cruz

On the eve of December 31st, 2014, stunning lights and fireworks fill the skies of Dubai like a beautiful paint on a blank canvass. This signals the start of a brand new year. For some it brings new beginnings while to others fear and uncertainties but for us Christians, the new year is the perfect time to look back on the great things God has done to us, as an individual and as a church. We must offer a heart of thanksgiving to Him because we know that all things, good His glory. Just as know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them

New Year also causes us to look forward not only on the goodness this present life can offer, but most about in 1 Peter 1:3-5. What an amazing truth presented to us by the apostle, that because Jesus Christ is risen from the dead we can be assured of, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven promised for the believers in heaven and this is our great, steadfast hope. May we find peace and comfort in these verses, too, season, if need be,heaviness ye are in heaviness through season, if need be, ye are in through manifold That being the trial of more your temptations:manifold That the temptations: trial of your faith, much being more though preciousit than of gold precious thanfaith, of gold thatmuch perisheth, be tried with perisheth, though be tried and withglory fire, might fire, might bethat found unto praise andithonour at the be found unto praise and honour and glory appearing of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:6-7). BBBC Family Goes To

FUJAIRAH By Sis. Arriane Villanueva-Intal A dramatic landscape of rocky mountains, cloudy skies, shining sun with crisp weather of one fine Tuesday welcomes the BBBC Family as we enter the city of the Northern Emirate, FUJAIRAH. What a sweet escape from the pressures of modern Dubai on December 2, 2014, marking UAE’s 43rd National Day celebration! The assembly is in Manama Villa 7 at the very early 7’oclock for a quick guideline and of course to seal our journey in corporate prayer. Everyone is ex cited as you see the smiles of the brethren hopping on the rented 60-seater big bus, tailed by couple of personal cars behind (that’s us, Intal and Jope Family). The moving bus is filled with melody and singing, endless chatting, snacking, picture takings and even a sneak of nap for some who came from night shift duty. After a 2-hour drive from Dubai, a very refreshing delight welcomes us as we stop by a parade of fruit stands showcasing us dazzling variety of produce in bargain price. No one left the place empty handed or not munching on something from the little one to our Tatay Pastor Erwin. This is followed by a stop to a small cafeteria for a quick chai and coffee break. As I personally would not want to miss the happening on the bus, thus, I carry my kids left and right from our convoying car to ride on the bus for ex perience and sightseeing in different views.

With our satisfied stomachs, we walk by the shore and chance a ride on their power boat for rent. As our life jackets fastened securely around us, the dashing trip gives us a wider view to appreciate the nature in different approach while the splashing water sends us to a still clear water of a small rocky island with tiny swimming fishes under the cloudy skies, surrounded by the brown mountains. The unspoiled natural beauty of Fujairah reminds me of Psalm 19 from verse 1The heavens declare the glory of God; and

the firmament sheweth his handywork and ends to verse 14Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. God reveals His glory not only in His creation and in Scriptures but in several ways. Our Amazing God is not only the God of creation and revelatio n but a must know that God as the Savior, the God of Redemptio n! Oh, what joy fills my heart as I look up to the skies and feel the presence of my Living God, my Redeemer, Jesus Christ!

Games with a twist of Pinoy Henyo and charade at their finest follow in the assembly facilitated by the game master, Bro. Rued Almadilla. It is TW versus KM that evokes clean fun among the brethren. The moment is filled with cheers and laughter, a good ex ercise for our jaws after a long time. Unlimited coffee and snacks are served later. Then, we wrap up ourselves in prayer homeward bound to Dubai. The way-out is walled by mountains, evening stealth sky quickly with a thick fog and whistling wind in a long and winding road. With God’s goodness and grace, He carries us through Dubai, safe and sound.

An hour later, we finally reach a dwelling place under the trees where we can set our banig, and all the potlucks each family have brought to share with; the park is nearby the road and facing the beach; children immediately run to the playground near to the shore while King’s Men assemble the table and chairs whilst True Womanhood serve the food. Mothers with their babies are on the other corner while the rest flock together for guitar playing and started the group singing. We enjoy partaking our lunch with various specialties from Valenciana to the undying and always present Adobo. What a good and pleasant scene of united brethren dwelling together! (Psalm

133:1)

14

Oh, yes! ‘Twas a great ex perience and well-spent holiday with our family in Christ! We celebrate because He was raised from the dead! He lives! Jesus the reason of this bliss!

Glory to God in the highest!

“Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. - Philippians 2:2”

L ooking through the crowd from afar, the Back to the

Bible Baptist Church stands out having its own special vestige…a united group of happy faithful men and women of all ages including the adorable toddlers. Now, emerging on the calendar – 23rd of January 2015 is the most awaited BBBC first Family Day Fellowship of the year! PRAISES, HONOR, GLORY and POWER to our LORD GOD in the Heaven of Heavens Who made all things possible by His will! GLORY TO GOD! Brethren who attended the Tagalog Worship Service which starts from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. excitedly took their turn in taking responsibilities to look for a suited place. All brethren went straight to the park after the English worship. The food is potluck. You can find an array of various kinds of food which are all irresistibly tempting! As hunger strikes, everyone is so eager to savor the mouthwatering dishes served on the table. Praise the Lord for all His provisions! Then after lunch fellowship, the group is divided into four teams in preparation for the games. Each team is identified according to their created names out of the theme “Unity” instead of colors which we are used to. So it came out to be: Walis, Penguin, Etihad and Pagkakaisa. New kind of witty and exciting games are introduced by our adept Game Masters. The echoing chants of joy and excitements shatters in the air while games go on, being watched by park goers until the last game is over. Finally, the fellowship ended and is closed with a solemn prayer by our beloved and faithful 15

until the last game is over. Finally, fellowship ended and is closed with a solemn prayer by our beloved and faithful pastor, Pastor Erwin B. Concepcion. The most interesting thing which has transpired is the existence of good camaraderie which breaks the barrier between brethren who always stays quiet at the corner and the visitors’ comfort in joining every game, making friends with BBBC brethren. BBBC’s first family day is concluded as a successful fellowship because of the presence of love shared by everyone and the outpouring blessings from our Mighty God!

GLORY TO GOD FOR HIS IMMEASURABLE LOVE THAT IS FELT BY ALL!

game because they must assemble a strong foundation in order for the building to stand and stay for a minute. Last game is guessing a song. Groups must pick a representative to be in front to pick a song in the box and hum it. The task of the members is to guess what the title of the song is. Each group is given two (2) minutes to guess as many songs as they can. After several games played, Group 2 is the overall champion. Afterwards, mouthwatering dinner is prepared and served by our ever supportive Gameo.

Christian Sojourners or commonly known as CSJ is a ministry exclusively for the singles of Back to the Bible Baptist Church. They gather every other Wednesday in Manama Villa 7 where they study and learn more about God's word as written in 2 Timothy 3:18 But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. The first part of the program is hosted by two cheerful members of CSJ, Bro. Rued Almadilla and Sis Juvy Sampang. They lead the singing of songs and praises and playing several games. The group is divided into two (2) groups. The first group is headed by Sis Mai Espanar and the second group by Sis May Pedico. First game is like an obstacle race with a twist, before reaching or getting the questions to be answered or solved, group members have to get through some obstructions. Feet are bound with an elastic band and chairs are scattered along the way. Each group makes their own tactics on how to get through the obstacle the fastest way. Boisterous laughter is heard as everyone who participated enjoys and wants to win the game. Second game requires mental skills. The objects are being zoomed in and you have to guess what the picture on the screen is. This game is really 16 interesting. Then after that, the group should make the tallest

Second part of the program starts right after the dinner fellowship. A special song number is rendered by 401 ladies. Then, Sis. Khay Aranzanzo shares her life's testimony. Everyone in the room listens as she narrates her life from childhood until the day she got saved. Her testimony is an encouragement and a blessing at the same time. Thereafter, Pastor Erwin Conception delivered a message that convicts most of the hearts of the listeners. As Christians, we are never worthy of what Jesus Christ our Savior has done on the cross. But because of His great love for us as what gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should Nothing we can do to be worthy for the grace and mercy He bestows on us. Surrendering our lives, serving Him with all hearts and loving Him above all is what He requires us while we are still here in this temporary place we live in. Mark 12:30 says, thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, We paying the price because He knows you and me is worth it all. Few of us are left for the 2nd day since many have their works scheduled every Saturday! It is a cold, wonderful morning the next day! Thanking God for another day He fashions with good weather and so excitedly, we pack our coffees, teas, their ingredients and accessories in the canister to bring with us on the coast, just a perfect match for the cool breeze. With jackets and winter gears on, before the morning breaks, to the open beach we joyfully tread to have our group devotion. As we cross the main road in front of the hotel where we house, not so far towards the seashore, we can audibly hear the whistling wind and the crashing waves on the cluster of rocks anchored in the sand. Upon reaching the shore, we spot an area where there are parched rocks for us to be able to sit down comfortably, have our morning coffee and listen carefully to the speaker as he delivers the Word of God. The session ended up in the state that all are encouraged and revived. Praises be to the Lord God Almighty! We go back to our rented place, having joy in our hearts! Consequently, with those kindhearted couples who voluntarily labored to help us in preparing our food, we prime our breakfast! Merrily, we ate our breakfast together. After fixing our things, with smiles painted in our face and joy stapled in our hearts, we leave the place. Writing for

God’s Glory By Sis. Sheila Togonon

ur mind is an odyssey of complexity that goes beyond what our lips can utter that is why a written masterpiece is a mirror of a writer’s soul. A disquieted or gloomy emotion is more clearly expressed by a hand that writes rather than a man who speaks in center stage. The only element you need to have in writing is Passion. On the other hand, to write for God’s glory is both a privilege and a blessing. This doesn’t merely involve passion but a passion driven by faith. For those who are not really writers, this involves even more than that, but a desire to serve and inspire believers to press on with their faith. It also involves the yearning to touch hearts to go back and seek the Lord’s face.

She also refreshes everyone on grammar rules and writing dos and don’ts. It is indeed an overwhelming kick off for the upcoming first issue of the year. Before everyone bids goodbye, Sis. Juvy Sampang and Sis. Rosette Samohan throw few mind exercises that make the end of the seminar fun and laughter-filled.

ecember 19, 2014, the much awaited final day for the Back to the Bible Baptist Churc’s Doctrine of Salvation Class has arrived. Yes! We are all zealous for this day to come because after almost a year of ardent study now comes the conclusion of the said class. Held in Manama Villa 7, Abu Hail, Dubai, the students attended the day of summing up one’s learning and wrapping up of lectures. ON OUR INTAKES Sis. Cherrie Tuquero

It is, again, Monday afternoon, which is the day I come home from work and I have to plan what to prepare as evening snacks. In the past months of our Girl Gone Wise group study, I make it a habit to always ensure that healthy food is served on the table. What we offer to our brethren and most especially to our family matters to us. If you are reading this, you will definitely agree that eating is something we value and enjoy to do. Open the bible to Genesis 1 and look at the verses. God creates, He hovers, He says, He names, He separates, He makes and blesses and sees and declares it good. But it is not until the end of the chapter, in verse 29, that He gives and what does he give? FOOD. Behold, “God says” I have given you every plant and every tree; you shall have them for food. Basically, FOOD is a GIFT, in fact the first gift, all things from God’s good hands are gifts, but I think food is somehow unique. Food that we eat is a tangible expression of GOD’S LOVE especially made edible for us. “It is one essential way that He shows His care for us (Matthew 6:26). Food is not a fuel for the machine, not a commodity or a reflection of our technological ingenuity. It is before everything else an unearned gift from God, Manna from heaven – a blessing. Because food is a gift, how we handle it – what we eat & how we eat it – is much more than a matter of convenience, taste, desire or consumption. How I respond to a gift is an indication of how I feel about the giver. And because food is a blessing from God, I respond by eating or supporting within my community food that manifests God's grace well. We live in a culture that is obsessed with food. It is not an exaggeration to say that most people are obsessed with food. Some are obsessed by lust for food and cannot stop thinking about that next cookie, snack, or meal they get to enjoy. Others are obsessed with health and dieting. They cannot stop from hunting down every organic vegetable stand, counting every gram of fat and wringing their hands over eating a piece of cheesecake. So how does a Christian (one who claims to love God and is concerned about His Kingdom more than anything else in this world) who lives in a culture obsessed with food eat to the glory of God? In addition to the food we consume, we also have drinks as our intakes – such liquids that help in the digestion of the food we eat. What you choose to drink can influence your attempts to lose weight or to maintain your weight. The following is for our awareness: * Regular soft drinks, juices, energy drinks and specialty coffees add calories in the same way food does, but will not keep you full for as long as food will. * The calories within drinks may often be deceiving and you may find it hard to choose a healthy, low calorie beverage. The following tips will help you to make smart choices when quenching your thirst.

25

* Always make water your first choice. Water does not contain calories and it is important to aim to have 8 glasses of water a day to stay well hydrated. Carry a water bottle with you or keep a water jug on your desk. You can give your water some extra flavor by adding a few slices of lemon, orange, cucumber or fresh mint leaves. * Milk is healthy way to satisfy your thirst, as it is good source of minerals and vitamins including calcium and vitamin D. However always make sure to choose low fat or skimmed milk, or fat‐free milk. Daily alternatives such as soya, rice or almond milk may also be a nutritious choice, if you are not able to have milk. Compare the calorie content per serving of different brands, to be able to make a smart choice.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Romans 12:1

* In contrast to what many people think, fruit juice should be limited as it contains high amounts of sugar. This includes juices labeled to have no sugar added. Juice does not contain the same amount of fiber that fresh, whole fruit does. If you do drink juice, limit it to a two third cup per day.

* If you have diabetes, it is recommended that you choose whole fresh fruit rather than juice. If your blood sugar is very well controlled, and you do choose to drink juice, be sure that it is 100% juice with no added sugar. Limit it to one small cup diluted juice in a day (a half a cup juice, mixed with half a cup water) * Regular soft drinks are very high in calories and sugar and do not contain nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Most of us know that a soft drink is not a smart choice, and that is should be avoided. Sugar‐free soft drink may be an alternative that can be taken occasionally. * Sports drinks have been designed specifically for people who are exercising, in order to replace a fluid and electrolytes that are lost through sweat. A sport drink can be considered if you are exercising for more than 90 minutes, you will simply be taking a large amount of unnecessary sugars. * Specialty coffees such as cappuccinos, lattes, or other warm drink such as hot chocolates are very high in calories, and should only be a treat once in a while. Rather have a herbal or flavoured tea or a small black coffee. If you do have a cappuccino or latte, ask for it to be skinny, and choose the smallest cup available. Knowing the above facts, be mindful and wise in your intakes!

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. ‐1 Corinthians 10:31‐

AL RIGGA BIBLE STUDY GROUP IN A CERTAIN HUMBLE HOME Bro. Cyril Rodriguez

A Bible Student (one who studies in a Bible School) can finish his course of study in about 4 years when his name is called on stage to receive the diploma on graduation day. Meanwhile, a Student of the Bible can only say that he has finished his course when his name is called on that grand podium and hears his Master's voice saying "...Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord" (Matthew 25:21, 23). We are all called to study the Word of God (II Timothy 2:15, John 5:39) and meditate upon it (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:2) not just because of the blessings that follow but simply because that is what the Bible, our sole authority says, and only then, the blessings due to our obedience will follow. To study the Word is significant in the life of a true Christian; we cannot even overestimate its importance. As of now, Back to the Bible Baptist Church has 13 Bible Study groups (still counting) and God has blessed each and every group in one way or another. One of these groups is what we call the Al Rigga BS group. Situated near the ever popular Deira Clock Tower, the group is composed of 10 regular members led by Bro. Rued Almadilla. Hosted by the simple and loving family of the Intals, the Al Rigga BS group has been shedding its bright light of good testimony and faithful teaching for about 2 years and 6 months now. It is not easy to host a Bible study weekly since a lot of diverse sacrifices and adjustments have to be made but due to God's providence, the group unceasingly study in a certain humble home.

Trials exempts no one, every member of the group has experienced it in various forms, from job hunting to physical sicknesses and even emotional and spiritual challenges. Alas, we can remember our beloved baby Jireh, hat time when there's nothing we can do but to all cry for God's mercy and grace. As the group faithfully holds on to God's promises, the Lord do answer a lot of our prayers, blessings overflowed and as we earnestly lift our petitions to God

He never fails to provide the needs of each individual and the group itself. He has blessed the host by showing that miracles really do happen in a way we cannot fully understand. Abiding in Christ brought fruits in our labor. The Lord added souls in the church through this wonderful Bible study group, souls that is now being used in the

service of the King here in Dubai and in other places. One of the key in this growing BS group is inviting more visitors and making sure that they will not leave the place without the gospel preached unto them. Fervent prayer plays a vital role in this growing ministry. All the men in the group also have their schedule of leading the Bible study, this is to equip us andexp and our knowledge for future ministries. When the small groups of Bible study had taken effect, the Al Rigga BS group also started a Chronological study of the Bible every other week to indulge in a deeper understanding of the Word, to be more rooted and grounded in Him and to know Him more, as Jerome hath said "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ". Now as we go back to our previous set up of gathering, the joy of fellowship and the gladness of praising God never fades but has been more effulgent than before and we know by God's grace that He will keep using the Al Rigga BS Group wherever we may be for the advancement of His cause in a certain humble home. Our prayer goes to every BS group that we may all continue and endure to the end. Glory and praise to the only wise God to Him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen! We fail in our duty to study God's Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy. (R.C. Sproul)

An Update from Rogil and Janice Apostol in Phnom Penh City and Kampong Chnnang, Province

UPDATE

Dear BBBC, We are thankful to the Lord for your unwavering partnership with us in Cambodia! We Pastor Rogil and Sis. Janice are praising God for He is at work in the lives of the Cambodians. Indeed, no one can destroy what God has planned to reclaim His kingdom for the glory of His Name. For the past 4 years, we have seen how the Lord is saving people both Cambodians and foreigners. We praise the Lord for these great privileges and blessings that He has given us to be part of His great work in saving people from every tribe, tongue and nation. Year 2014 has been full of blessings and challenges! We have seen how the Lord carried us through and how He taught us to really depend on Him totally. Early this year, Pastor Rogil got sick and was hospitalized. After more than a month, he got sick again but the Lord is always good and He healed him. We praised God that during his hospitalization, one couple in the village we minister was saved and our hearts rejoice. They are Mr. Hann’s Family. We reported their testimonies in our last report. We also rejoice and thank God for blessing the ministry and for His sustaining grace since we started the ministry together as a couple. A Journey towards Pe

Part 1‐ A Journey of My Quest for the Truth: My Struggle and Agony

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ before I begin my testimony, my name is Cherrie and I am working as Patient Administrator in one of the leading private hospitals in the UAE. I have spent the last 14 years of my life in this country.

Let me start by sharing with you my most favorite verse in the Bible. I always feel comforted whenever I am reciting these lines because I believe that through these powerful phrases, I finally found home.

I always believe that you cannot say that you have reached your final destination unless you are finally home. Home is where peace and contentment resides. It is where you can find warmth, comfort and acceptance. Home is where the heart is, as they say. Ironically, every journey also starts from home. The beginning of a journey tends to coincide when a man begins to wonder what lies behind our own home’s door. I was born and raised by a devout catholic family and grew up believing 1 Corinthians 6:19‐20 – What? Know ye not in God as defined by the catholic teachings. I was a regular attendee of that your body is the Temple of the Holy the Sunday and Wednesday masses and have learned to love singing Ghost which is in you, which ye have God church songs by heart. I have familiarized myself with many different and ye are not your own? For ye are saints that I tend to never run out of ones to pray to for specific brought with a price therefore glorify God in problems and specific needs. I lived my life believing that everything will fall into its proper place as long as you are living a modest life, not your body and in your spirit, which are God. causing any trouble to other people and still find some time to fulfill your religious obligations.

I always consider myself an introvert person. I am aware of what is happening around me and I care for the people I love yet I always incline to lack the enthusiasm to show and express how I feel. As I grow older, I started to wonder and look for a deeper meaning of life. I begin to ask more questions and notice that there is void in my heart that continues to grow. I start to seek new meaning for what I considered home and wondered if I could find it elsewhere.

That is when my personal journey begins…

When I come to UAE, my first job is in Ajman, in a company owned and managed by locals. There, I have a chance to study about Islam and I embrace it as my own faith for quite some time. When my 3‐year contract come to an end, I manage to transfer to Abu Dhabi and find new job that somehow makes me forget everything about Islam. I spend the next 6 years working in Abu Dhabi where I am reintroduced to Jesus Christ by a lady who invites me and a cousin of mine to watch videos about they are claiming to be “the good news.” Out of curiosity, I have opened my searching mind and heart for answers for a long while. This continues until I join their group “KINGDOM OF JESUS CHRIST.” I never try to question their intentions or research their background as I believe them and trust that what I am doing is for my spiritual rebirth and for the Glory of God. I stay with the group for three years and I am one of their most active members. I learn to motivate myself to offer personal, to some extent, financial sacrifices to fulfill my role as its loyal follower. I even serve as a leader of a small group of people who does regular meetings to profess the teachings of that organization. I experience selling different food items along the busy streets of Hamdan in an effort to augment its coffers. I am made to believe that commitment to the organization and loyalty to what they claimed to be the son of God, “Pastor Apollo Quiboloy,” is the right way of glorifying God.

Blinded by this false notion of loyalty, I even reach the point that I go home to the Philippines to attend what they claim to be an important event dubbed as “Sons and Daughters of God in the Kingdom Nation” which is held in Davao. I go there convince about its importance that I nearly forget to spend time with my own family. I don’t even care about my own comfort that I leave the comforts of my company’s accommodation to live in a lowly worker’s villa. I am helpless; the group already has convinced me to give up my personal convictions, to doubt my own instinct, and not to trust my own capacity for a sound reason. Until, I wake up one day feeling an urge to pray for God to give me the strength and wisdom to discern the truth from what seems to be a complete madness. This time I pray calling God and not the name of a living person who claims to be God. From that very moment I realize, that I am deceived, so I turn away and never ever look back.

Part 2 ‐ A Journey of My Quest for the Truth: The Joy and Fulfillment

After what happened, I swear to never easily trust others again. I learn my lessons about trust, the hard and painful way. Hence, I am convinced that there is only one to trust to and that is, myself. The experience keeps me from trusting any religion. Worse, it forces me to stop praying, as it only reminds me of the pain and disappointments. I am suddenly living a life which is lonely, empty and without purpose. Now, I recall these days as the darkest chapters of my life.

My journey goes on as I work in two other companies. First, a contracting company in Dubai where I work for 4 months but is later terminates due to the economic recession. The next one is where I finish a 4 ‐year contract but I am forced to agree to receive a separation benefits far lesser than what is legally stated by the labor law. My former employer even insists that I will be held liable for a company violation and pay for the given penalties even if it is not my fault.

I spend the next three months looking for a job until I am offered a job contract in Abu Dhabi only to be told at the last minute that the job has already been given to someone else. It is an unfortunate event that turns out to be a blessing since the opportunities that I later have here in Dubai proves to be the most significant set of gifts that I receive from God.

The series of blessings that I receive started when I am invited by Edward and Kring to attend a prayer meeting. I fully trust them, as my brother’s closest friends here in Dubai, so I immediately compel to join them considering it as the perfect chance to know God again and learn about His love and grace. Right there and then, I know I have finally found home. I rediscover my old self and instantly find the peace of mind that I am longing for a very long time. It is also during these times, when I receive a call for a job interview, afterwards being hired by my current company.

I continue attending activities of the BACK TO THE BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH regularly. Seeing how sincere and hard they pray for each other is a life‐changing experience, something I have never experienced before. Pastor Erwin and Pastor Ian are people whom I admire, as their words never fail to provide me comfort and their presence make me feel the warmth of a family – a home. I am so blessed to receive Jesus as my Lord and Saviour one day while attending a bible study and finally have my public declaration of following Jesus through water baptism last June 7, 2013 at Mamzar Beach.

Now, I can say that I am home again after so many years I have spent seeking for answers from many places and from a lot of people. Through God’s grace, now I know that home is truly where your heart is. Home is a place within you, in a place where the Holy Ghost resides. That is the reason why I am greatly thankful to BBBC family for helping me find the key that will unlock the door to the home, which has always been there. Until now, I am still overwhelmed by how great and loving Jesus Christ is. With His continuous guidance, all my fears disappear. Not even the news about a potentially malignant cyst and lump has moved me. I know my faith in God can move mountains and is the reason why I am healed.

Let this testimony of mine be a living proof of the love of God for each and every one. May our Almighty Lord, through His Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior pour His blessings to the Back to the Bible Baptist Church continuously, so we can serve God more effectively and untiringly. We can lead others into their salvation. Let us constantly be reminded that we are on the right path so we must do great service to God. May we all have the strength to help others find the key to our Home!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY! And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. – Jeremiah 29:13
