We would like to take a moment to recognize and remember Jane Baird who passed away on August 18, 2016 after a brief illness. Mrs. Baird served as a member of the Board of Trustees for five years. She and her husband, Jim, supported the arts and sciences consistently, giving students the chance to excel academically and artistically. We thank her for all that sheâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s done for and given to the school and offer our deepest condolences to her family.

The Honor Roll edition of The Spear is a testament to the commitment of our Board of Trustees and of all donors who uphold the mission of preparing students for meaningful lives as citizens, leaders, and scholars. Gifts from each individual, business, or foundation improve the lives of our students, their families, and our community. We had an unprecedented 91% participation of our school families in the Annual Fund campaign. In addition, you supported our Feed the Hunger Packathon, helping us to create over 50,000 meals in one day through Feed the Hunger. You sponsored our Holiday Event, allowing our students to sing in three different languages with internationally known tenor, Mark Masri.You supported musicals, plays, lectures, academic field trips, and competitions for the arts and athletics. With your support in the Annual Auction, we created a makerspace on each campus, where students are using critical thinking, logistical analysis, and innovation to solve problems in a hands-on environment. Thank you for an extraordinary year. For most of us, the education of the next generation is the most important and challenging calling to which we must respond. We give our time, our gifts, and our hearts to the belief that education is the vehicle of hope and the pathway to prosperity. Your gifts will continue to build The Burlington School’s reputation as a premier, innovative and independent college-preparatory school.
