Happy Birthday Play School:

Celebrating 50 years ON NOW UNTIL 5 FEB TIME Mon – Fri 10am – 5pm, Sat 11am – 5pm, Sun 8.30am – 5pm VENUE Main Gallery COST Free

Happy Birthday Play School: Celebrating 50 years is an exhibition which honours Australia’s longest-running children’s television program and its special place in people’s hearts. Play School has featured in the lives of generations of Australians and the exhibition provides a wonderful chance to consider the changing nature and experience of Australian childhood.

‘This exhibition offers a window on the changing experience of Australian childhood.’ - Sophie Jensen, Curator

Presented by Gold Coast City Gallery. Happy Birthday Play School: Celebrating 50 years is a travelling exhibition developed by the National Museum of Australia and the ABC.

As well as Play School stars Big Ted, Little Ted, Humpty and Jemima, the exhibition will feature the iconic Rocket Clock, Flower Clock and all the Play School windows. While this exhibition offers a window on the changes in the program, it also allows adults the chance to indulge in a little nostalgia, while children wonder at the magic that the program still delivers to them on a daily basis. The colourful exhibition explores the five decades of Play School by featuring toys, props and costumes from each period, alongside archival audio and video clips of past programs and presenters having fun.

They travel all around to retrieve them and bring them to their colourful home of odd shaped boxes where they welcome them to the family. Each toy is introduced one-byone and, after seeing a slide show of how they came to be lost, is given a vocal sound, a movement, a piece of music, a nightlight and a nice comfy bed.

Fluff: A Story of Lost Toys has been acclaimed for its originality, warmth, clever use of comedy and extraordinary combination of song, movement, projection and audience participation. In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a clan of female survivors faces the end of human existence. But when a young woman discovers that they may not be alone on earth, she sets out on a dangerous journey to find out whether the men might still be alive. Clan was developed through Playlab’s 2016 Incubator program.

A married couple are unwilling to deal with their unhappiness until they are confronted by Veritas, a mythological being conjured out of a painting. Veritas takes them on a journey to see life through the eyes of other couples and understand how important it is to face the truth, no matter how difficult.

It’s Schoolies Week on the Gold Coast. When Greta learns of Troy’s plans to propose marriage to her friend Toni, she shakes things up by finding ‘good time’ boys for her friends. VENUE Arts Theatre COST Adult $35, Pensioner Senior $32, Student Child $22.50, Group 6+ $28, Student Group $20.50. Available for Multi-Buy. World Premiere Presented by The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Bleach* Festival, The Farm, Co3 Australia. Made by The Farm in collaboration with Co3 Australia. Commissioned by Bleach* Festival, The Farm, Co3 Australia. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

Frank’s a lonely guy who wants to make his imaginary friends real. Harnessing electricity from a storm he animates his world with nothing but his imagination and a cardboard box. Battling a physical impairment, Frank creates monsters to fulfil his desire to be normal and to be accepted by others. Can he control what he creates? And where is the real monster anyway?

Frank Enstein is a retelling of the classic tale for children and adults—magical dancetheatre illuminating a path to self-acceptance. This is theatre as if made by Michel Gondry, handcrafted and full of the love of old fashioned techniques. The Farm’s wicked sense of humour, magic and dance creates a show for the child in all of us.

There are so many different types of stalls, from fresh organic, biodynamic and conventionally grown produce, freshly squeezed orange drinks, cold pressed fruit and vegetables juices and smoothies, nuts and seeds, olives and tasty tapenades, herbs and just-caught seafood, freshly baked bread and creamy cheese, locally grown coffee and cakes and slices to-die-for. Parkrun EVERY SATURDAY TIME 7am WHERE Gold Coast Cultural Precinct Every Saturday morning, 30 to 40 locals and tourists visit The Arts Centre to participate in parkrun from 7am. Parkrun is a worldwide phenomenon combining fitness with interactive technology. Started in 2010 in London by Tim Oberg, and brought to the Gold Coast in 2011, parkrun is unique in that it allows participants to have their personal times electronically scanned and saved, making them accessible for future use at any other parkrun course. The highly inclusive, free community event commenced last November, and is just one of many new attractions as part of the continued development of the Cultural Precinct, the Gold Coast’s future cultural and social hub. The Cultural Precinct aims to offer something for everyone on the Coast, and parkrun brings the lake and surrounding parklands to life each Saturday morning. Local residents are enjoying the convenience of regular exercise and forming new friendships so close to home.

Cultural Precinct stage takes shape Stage 1 of our Gold Coast Cultural Precinct is on track for completion by 2018.

engaged for demolition services, bulk earthworks and piling works.

Visitors to Evandale Parklands will see foundations in place for the outdoor stage, and earthworks beginning to form the sweeping concert lawn at the heart of the precinct’s first stage.

Managing Contractor, ADCO Constructions, is achieving high local industry participation targets with 80 per cent of employees and 82 per cent of contract work awarded to locals during the preparation phase.

In a little over 12 months, this striking new venue will be ready to host a wide array of artistic performances, civic events and festivals.

Demolition of the former Council buildings on the site has also resulted in recovery of almost 17,200 tonnes of metal, concrete and green waste for recycling and reuse.

The stage and concert lawn will be fully equipped to cater for audiences of up to 850, and will have the ability to ‘bump in’ equipment for larger performances and audiences of up to 5000. The venue can also host functions with up to 250 people seated on-stage. The benefits to the city are already being realised, with Gold Coast-based contractors

With the footprint of the outdoor stage now established, visitors will soon begin to see it rise from the ground. Fitout, landscaping and establishment will then follow before the venue can open. Visit the project website at goldcoastculturalprecinct.info where you can view the construction time lapse.
