The use of cast-iron stoves was rapidly spreading by the end of the nineteenth century. If you wanted to use the stove, you had to cut enough dry ďŹ rewood and start a ďŹ re. After about an hour the stove would get to its cooking temperature. The stove also served as a homeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s primary or secondary heat source. Prior to the cast iron stove, people cooked over an open ďŹ re, usually outdoors using cast iron pots & pans.
