D ESERT R EEF H OT S PRING months, and enticingly warmer during the winter. Norm & Tanya, Managers of Desert Reef Hot Spring

Nestled among panoramic mountain views, this high-desert oasis features travertine-blue water; a serene, peaceful environment; and relaxed, smiling faces - and is located only 20 minutes southwest of Pueblo West, just east of Florence. Comfortable and inviting year-round, 132°F calcium carbonate water flows from an artesian well to fill an expansive, natural outdoor pool. Crystal– clear water is air-cooled, and undergoes no chemical treatment. Flow-through rate is adjusted daily to strike a balance between air and water temperature refreshingly cooler than body temperature during the summer

In addition to the main pool, a smaller therapeutic pool, The Kettle, has recently been added. Kettle water is generally maintained in the range of 105°+. Plans for yoga and massage in the greenhouse are underway, as well as a clay bath area for the summer months. You are invited to enjoy a meditative walk along the hilltop labyrinth, and quiet reflection alongside the koi pond. Courteous adults and quiet children are always welcome. Bathing suit-optional, on any day you may choose to wear a suit, or not. As it is very important that all guests feel comfortable and enjoy their visit to the Desert Reef, it is expected that all soakers exercise conduct that ensures a respectful, noncharged, social environment.

The Creation of Health Health occurs by DESIGN. Disease occurs by default. Health and disease are the result of the choices we make—choices which compound daily. They are invisible for quite some time. The creation of health cannot be felt, nor can the insidious onset of disease and debility. “Where there is You may never know when it no door— will be too late to begin taking disease cannot enter.” steps in the direction of health.

C OUNTRY R OOTS F ARM —S USTAINABLE F ARMING What is sustainable farming? Sustainable agriculture integrates three main goals: [1] 1.) environmental stewardship 2.) farm profitability, and 3.)prosperous farming communities Sustainable agriculture includes growing high-quality, nutrientdense products in a fashion that does not harm the workers, the consumers, or the environment. Ryan and Betsy Morris, owners of Country Roots Farm, invite you to see what sustainable farming is all

about. Their small-scale organic farm, located on the Pueblo Mesa, is an example of how these high-quality products can be grown locally. The beauty of sustainable farming is that it not only benefits the consumers who eat these delicious products, but it also benefits the local economy. When you buy produce locally, you are supporting people right here in the community—that means that your dollar is contributing to a community member’s well-being and to a

small business’ future profitability. The same types of benefits are not afforded to our communities when products are bought from a conventional grocery store where the produce has been shipped thousands of miles (causing even more environmental problems with fossil fuel consumption). Come to Country Roots for delicious salad mixes, collard greens, Japanese turnips, acorn and butternut squash, onions, eggs, and more! October 14th, 21st, and 28th (Saturdays), Farm Stand will be open from 9AM to NOON.

G RASS -F ED IS B EST What is different about grass-fed beef and milk from grass-fed cattle?

Pollution of the environment

Most meat and dairy products in the United States are mass “produced” (different from being “raised”) in large confined facilities. This method of “producing food” can lead to many problems, both for the companies and for consumers. For example, this creates:

Animal stress and abuse

Food with less nutritional value

The unnecessary use of hormones, antibiotics, and other drugs

Grass-fed cattle produces more nutrient-dense milk and dairy products, including products that have higher amounts of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Conjugated Linoleic Acid, and Vitamin E [2,3,4]. Because grass-fed cattle are raised naturally, many ranchers do not use artificial hormones or antibiotics— they either have no need or use homeopathic methods of healing.

Steel City Theatre Company, October 20-21,26,28, Nov. 2-4 at 7:30 PM THE OUTSIDERS Hoag Theater, Pueblo Community College. This production is done in conjunction with Pueblo City/ County Library’s 2nd Annual All Pueblo Reads.

For more information please call SCTC Box Office, 719-543-9800 or get tickets on-line at www.sctcpueblo.com.

When cattle are allowed to roam freely and graze upon grass, there is no pollution to the environment—the waste processes of the animal actually benefit the land by naturally fertilizing the fields. When grass-fed cattle are raised naturally, they are never confined in dangerously small areas where the spread of sickness and disease in very prevalent. Doug & Kim Wiley at Larga Vista Ranch invite you to learn more about their grass-fed products, including raw milk! Contact them for more information!
