CATAPULTS & CROSSBOWS It’s time to get medieval on physics! Build ten sleek and updated models of catapults and crossbows. These classic siege weapons from the middle ages also happen to be great tools for teaching physics, including lessons in force, energy, motion, and projectiles. A crossbow is a medieval type of weapon based on a bow and arrow, in which the bow is mounted horizontally on a stock. Build and experiment with five different types of crossbows. The projectile, called the bolt, has a safe foam tip and a special cross-section that prevents other projectiles from being launched. When the bolt is loaded into the crossbow, a rubber band is pulled backward and energy is stored in the stretched rubber band. A trigger releases the bolt and the rubber band launches it through the air toward its target. A catapult is another medieval ballistic device that uses mechanical rubber bands and counterweights to fling projectiles into the air. The 32-page, full-color manual has illustrated step-by-step instructions.

GYROSCOPES & FLYWHEELS

EXPLORATION SERIES

Gyroscopic force is a fascinating and magical phenomenon, with amazing scientific principles behind it. With the small, fast-spinning gyroscope in this kit, you can build models and perform experiments that appear to defy the force of gravity by balancing and standing upright when common sense would tell you they should fall over. Build a model of a break-dancer that uses the gyroscope to spin and balance on its head. Construct a gyroscopic vehicle that keeps its balance like a Segway but with just one wheel. Assemble a cool robot that can zoom along a thin rail on two inline wheels without falling down. The lower part of this robot is a flywheel engine — a fast-rotating, weighted wheel that stores rotational energy and drives a gearwheel that moves the model forward. Even more models can be built using the flywheel function, including a motorbike, a space car, and a trike. A simple pull of a ripcord starts the gyroscope and flywheel spinning — no batteries required! The 32-page, full-color manual has illustrated step-by-step instructions. Ages 8+

Meet Sammy. This cute little peanut butter and jelly sandwich is actually a robot that teaches coding principles and skills to children in grades K-2. You don’t need a tablet, smartphone, or computer to program this robot; programs are created by simply laying down a sequence of physical code cards. As the robot drives over the code cards, an OID optical scanner on the bottom of the robot reads the code cards one by one and loads the program. Next, place the robot on a grid made of map cards, and the robot runs the program. You can program the robot to move in different directions, activate its output gear, light up its LED, play sounds, and respond to different function cards. The integrated output gear makes it possible to build simple robotic creations with arms or other moving parts that respond according to the program’s instructions. This robot kit also teaches physical engineering and problem solving skills through a series of building and coding lessons. The 30 lessons are aligned with standards for computer science education developed by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) and the International Society for Technology (ISTE) Education, as well as courses from Code.org. The lessons progress in complexity through the illustrated manual, allowing the kit to be appropriate for a child as young as four years with help from an adult and as old as eight years. The lessons cover these six key areas in coding: sequencing, loops, events, conditionals, functions, and variables. In addition to Sammy, there are five other stories, each with a series of model-building and coding challenges and lessons related to it: a mouse moves through a maze to find cheese; a penguin wanders around a zoo; a soccer player moves a ball into the goal; a fire truck puts out a fire; and a factory robot performs tasks in a factory scene. BIG & FUN MICROSCOPE This big, colorful microscope was designed specifically to enable young kids to have successful microscopic viewing experiences, and to be a fun tool for early biological investigations. The 8x magnification power is appropriate for this age group, who often have trouble adjusting their eyes to see images at higher powers. The extra wide eyepiece and battery powered, light-up slide

stage also make viewing images through the microscope easy. The microscope comes with a unique slide holder, 24 printed slides, and one blank slide. Each printed slide features one object at three magnification levels, so kids can relate a recognizable object, like a feather or bee, with two different magnified images of the object. The 72 slide images give kids a lot of things to investigate. The 32-page, full-color manual is set up as an illustrated storybook, making it fun for adults and children to read together,

while also instructing them how to use the microscope. As you read the story, you can find the slides of the objects that appear in the story and view them through the microscope. The blank slide can be used to view other objects at 8x magnification. This introductory series of lessons is designed to give kids an effective and fun introduction to microscopy and microscopic biology. The manual explains the parts of the microscope, how to use it, and gives scientific explanations of the images on the printed slides. Observe biological

specimens from animals like a feather, skin, hair, dragonfly wing, and fly eye; biological specimens from plants like a mushroom spore, kiwi seed, lichen, pollen in honey, and flower stamen; and other specimens from everyday life like table salt, sugar, and a zipper. Ages 4+

HAPPY ATOMS

A revolutionary approach to teaching chemistry

Digital and Physical Chemistry Sets Chemistry is the science of materials, their properties, and how they react with each other. All materials are made of atoms. Why do some atoms combine with each other while other atoms do not? Because atoms just want to be happy! Of course, atoms don’t really have feelings. But they do have observable behaviors. And atoms tend to be more stable, or “happy,” when they have certain numbers of electrons whizzing around their cores. Where do they find extra electrons if they need more to be happy? From other atoms that have too many electrons, of course! When atoms share or exchange electrons to be happy, they stick together. Happy atoms form molecules! With this revolutionary approach to teaching chemistry, you can make your own happy atoms! This physical and digital system lets you discover the world of molecules in an intuitive, hands-on way. Using a set of atom models representing 16 different elements, you can assemble your own molecular models. The atoms stick together easily with magnets: metal tips on the ends of rubbery arms, which represent free electrons, snap onto magnetic bonding sites on the atom spheres, which represent empty spots for electrons in the atom’s outermost electron shell. But how do you know what the molecule you’ve snapped together is? You use the included app (for iOS and Android devices) to snap its picture, and the app uses stateof-the-art image recognition technology to identify the molecule. The app recognizes tens of thousands of molecules. It presents detailed information about 150 of the most important molecules, such as a molecule’s usage, properties, hazards, formula, and structure. The app takes you on guided quests to discover new molecules and learn about them. You can track your progress with the app, collecting sets of molecules that you have built and explored. Many people think of chemistry as complicated and hard to grasp. New technology now enables us to take this innovative approach to teaching chemistry and help make it more tangible.

NANOTECHNOLOGY Cutting-Edge Nanomaterials Some of the biggest scientific breakthroughs in recent years involve things that are actually very, very small. The science of nanotechnology deals with the smallest structures, in the range of one to 100 nanometers in size. That’s as small as just a few atoms in a row (one atom corresponds to about one nanometer)! With this kit, the intangible, nanoscopic world becomes accessible with hands-on experiments using both scaled-up models

60

and real nanomaterials. Nanoparticles can be made of different materials and exist in a wide variety of forms —thin layers, tubes, balls, and tree-like structures. These particles can be coated onto surfaces, they can enhance other materials such as paint, they can be used as a delivery method for pharmaceuticals in the body, and much more. Specific applications include, for example, self-cleaning house paints and water-repellent clothes, antifog coatings on glasses, UV protection components in sunscreen, environmentally friendly anti-fouling coatings for ships (to prevent algae growth, thereby reducing fuel consumption), antibacterial coatings

for medical devices, and materials to more effectively filter dirty water. Start out by conducting experiments concerning size, scale, and orders of magnitude in the International System of Units, to get a feel for just how small a nanometer really is. Explore how charcoal is like a nanoscale sponge with filtering experiments. Conduct experiments with the hydrophilic (water-loving) and hydrophobic (water-hating) properties of different surfaces, which illustrate nanoscale properties. Stir up some mixtures and suspensions, and then examine exotic mixtures to learn about the nanoscopic particles suspended

in them. Shine a laser through a colloidal gold — a suspension of nanoscale particles of gold! Learn about the electromagnetic spectrum, laser light, electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy to begin to grasp how we can make nanomaterials visible. Experiment with a special material that mimics the nanostructures on a gecko’s footpads that allow it to climb straight up a vertical pane of glass with ease! A full-color, 72-page illustrated manual guides your explorations of the nanoworld, and a game board helps you track your progress through the experiments.

ELECTRICITY: MASTER LAB The Physics of Electricity We encounter electricity everywhere in our lives — at home, in school, even our bodies have electric charges in them. Alternating current (AC), or electric current that cyclically changes its direction, plays a particularly important role in our world. Countless appliances and devices, including

62

televisions, electric heaters, desk lamps, and smartphone transformers are operated with AC. This science experiment kit offers a thorough exploration of alternating current in addition to the more commonly addressed direct current (DC), the unidirectional current from standard batteries. With this kit, you can safely experiment with the physical science theories and applications of electricity. Conduct 119 experiments to investigate electrical engineering from AC to DC. Start by exploring the basics of electric

current by building simple circuits with batteries, switches, and lights. Build series and parallel circuits as well as more complex circuits such as a traffic signal and alarm system. Experiment to observe the physical effects of electric current such as heat and magnetism. Discover electrochemistry by building a lemon battery. Play around with permanent magnets and electromagnets to learn about magnetism and its applications, such as relays and motors. Operate an electromagnetic coil,

 128 p

capacitor, and transformer in an AC circuit and examine their behaviors at different frequencies. A special AC generator creates a harmless AC current with a variable frequency, from a few hertz (or cycles per second) to about 7 kilohertz. This device safely enables the exploration of electrical phenomena such as resonance and highpass, low-pass, and band-pass behaviors. Use the voltage and current meter to take measurements from your circuits. With this kit, the complex world of electricity becomes more tangible.

ELECTRONICS: LEARNING CIRCUITS Fun Circuit Building Experiments for Beginners Construct circuits with colorful electric building blocks to learn about electricity and how electronic devices work. With the innovative snap-together blocks in this kit, children eight and up can safely and easily begin experimenting with electronic circuits. These building blocks are specially designed to make learning electronics fun and accessible. Because the blocks are brightly colored and have unique shapes, it is easy to follow the assembly diagrams to construct functional circuits. And because the circuit symbols are printed directly onto the blocks, you can quickly become familiar with the symbols and learn how to read circuit diagrams. The fun building projects include an alternating blinker, a police siren, an ambulance siren, an alarm system, a light detector, a conductivity tester, a rain warning system, a timer, and logic circuits. The electronic components in this kit include capacitors, resistors, transistors, LEDs (light emitting diodes), a phototransistor, a switch, 30 contact blocks, cable blocks, a battery holder, a speaker, and a sound integrated circuit. ECO-BATTERY VEHICLES The Future of Electric Cars It’s becoming increasingly inevitable that electric vehicles (EV’s for short) will be the cars of the future. More specifically, battery electric vehicles (or BEV’s) — which are powered entirely by rechargeable chemical cells — are starting to become practical. Many major auto manufacturers have BEV’s in development, and a few already have BEV’s on the road today. The challenge in making BEV’s a viable transportation solution is the battery. Batteries must be easy to recharge, able to hold enough charge to drive long distances, and more efficient than gasoline engines. Scientists and engineers around the world are tackling this battery challenge, and major progress is being made. In this kit, you can build and experiment

68

with a new type of environmentally friendly “fuel cell” to learn about electrochemical cells and BEV’s. The battery is a metal-air electrochemical cell, a type of battery that is widely used in small scale devices. It is ideal for demonstrating battery technology because it does not use any harmful chemicals: it uses magnesium plates, salt water, and the oxygen in the air to generate electricity. Magnesium is considered an eco-friendly renewable fuel because it can be harvested cleanly from ocean water. Build 20 different models and power them with this special battery. Experiment with different concentrations of salt to see how long your battery can run. Learn about electrochemistry and battery technology. Take sensor readings with the sensor pods.

Load the sensor data into the app via the base station. SENSORS ALIVE Bring Physics to Life Demystify abstract physics phenomena like light, sound, and heat as never before — with this highly innovative, gamified sensor physics lab. The core of this science kit is an app-based video game in which you use realworld sensor data that you collect from your environment to generate a diverse array of creatures. Create, collect, play with, and take care of your creatures in the app.

In a pretend bioengineering lab inside the game, kids play the role of scientists who use readings taken from three physical sensor pods outside the game. The readings are then transferred into the game via the base station. The sensor data dictates the different attributes your bioengineered creatures will have. For example, if you take a low temperature measurement, the creature generated will have long hair to keep warm. If the temperature is high, perhaps it will have scaly skin like a lizard. Or, a low light level captured by the light sensor might yield a creature with huge eyes to see better in the

dark, while a high sound level reading might result in a creature with tiny ears. Additional attributes are controlled directly by settings in the app. Combined together, all of these variables lead to a seemingly infinite number of creatures you could create. Continue to use the sensors to capture data that lets you care for your creatures, feed them, play with them, create habitats for them, and generate more creatures — all the while developing an intuitive sense of the different measurements you are taking with the sensors. You will gain experience in measuring light levels, volumes, and

temperatures with the three sensor pods, and learn about the physics behind light, sound, and heat. Learning physics comes alive as you see the tangible results of your sensor experiments. The kit contains three sensor pods, base station, app, and quick-start poster. Requires a tablet or smartphone running recent versions of iOS or Android. Ages 8+

The Science of Gyroscopes Gyroscopes are used in countless devices. From smartphones, tablets, and video game controllers to airplanes and space telescopes, gyroscopes perform tasks ranging from the everyday to the extraordinary. With this kit, children can explore the astonishing powers of the gyroscope by building seven models, including a robot that can balance on two linear wheels and move along a tightrope! Kids will learn about the physical science principles that keep the robot balanced, making it appear to defy gravity. By constructing seven different models with the motorized gyroscope unit, young engineers can experiment with and learn about the science of gyroscopic devices and the indispensable role they play in our lives. The models include the gyroscopic robot, a balancing personal vehicle, a gyro horizon (or artificial horizon), a gyrocompass, a balancing game, a tightrope walker, and a flight simulator. At the core of these models is a unique motor-driven gyroscope. A gyroscope is a rapidly spinning wheel mounted in such as way that its axle can move in any direction. Because of the laws of physics, the gyroscope reacts to external forces differently than a non-spinning wheel would: it resists forces in certain directions. This behavior allows it to be used for all sorts of applications related to balance, rotation, and orientation. Fun, hands-on experiments with the motorized gyroscope unit make these physical laws tangible and easier to comprehend. The full-color, 24-page instruction manual provides step-by-step instructions. GECKOBOT Wall-Climbing Robot This astonishing wall-climbing robot has a motorized air suction system that enables it to walk vertically up and down perfectly smooth surfaces, like glass, plastic, whiteboards, and glossy laminates. The battery-powered motor drives an innovative gear system that produces a rotating motion making the legs move back and forth and up and down, mimicking a real gecko — so two of the feet are touching the wall while the other two feet are lifted off of the wall, in an alternating motion. At the same time, the gear system drives an air pump that creates a vacuum at the two feet touching the wall while blowing air outward at the other two feet. In this way, two of the feet are always holding the model to the wall, while the other two feet are pushing off and stepping forward. You can build six other models and conduct experiments with suction to learn about air pressure and the mechanical physics of this unique device. Build models of an industrial robotic arm with a vacuum suction cup gripper, crawling inch worm, smartphone holder, suction tow truck and car, ellipsograph, and suction gun. ROBOTICS: SMART MACHINES Programmable Robots Robotics is a vast, thrilling, and sometimes overwhelming interdisciplinary field involving physics, engineering, and computer science. This kit gives kids a simple, fun, and customizable introduction to robotics that lets them build eight motorized machines controlled by programs and an ultrasound sensor. Kids code the programs using an easy, visual programming app on a tablet or

smartphone, which connects to the robot models via a wireless Bluetooth connection. The ultrasonic sensor works on the same principle as sonar. It sends out sound waves, which bounce off objects. The sensor interprets the echoes returning to it, and from this detects objects in the path of the sensor. Using the app interface, you can program the robots you build to behave based on the feedback coming from the ultrasound sensor. Build a bipedal robot that walks forward on two legs and pivots to avoid obstacles in its path. An awesome beetle robot moves backwards or forwards in response to an obstacle, and opens and closes its pincers.

Construct a funny crocodile model that wags its tail if no object is in sight, but then opens its giant jaws when an object approaches. Using an additional smartphone and tablet, you can even hack together a cute little spy bot that roams around and streams video back to the tablet screen. A cool tiltrotor aircraft model simulates vertical takeoff and landing by rotating its propeller blades 90 degrees. You can also assemble other fun robots including a robo dog and robotosaurus. After you have learned how the technology works, you can build and program your own robots using the kit’s 230 building pieces. A full-color, 64-page step-by-step

illustrated manual helps kids assemble all of the models and teaches them about robotics in the real world. The visual programming language allows you to command the robots’ motors to move at different times, different power levels, in different directions, and in response to the data from the sensor. You can also add simple sounds to your programs. Requires a tablet or smartphone running iOS or Android®. iOS devices must support Bluetooth 4.0 and must be running iOS 8.0 or later (such as iPad® 3 or later, iPad mini™, iPhone® 4S or later, and iPod touch® 5 or later). Android devices must support Bluetooth 4.0 and must be running Android 4.4 or later.

Players earn points for the highest level that their shape reaches when it lands and extra points for touching bonus circles. But be careful: Don’t break a landing rule! The shape you dropped is not allowed to touch matching shapes or colors after it lands. If you break a landing rule, you will go away empty-handed. INGENIOUS The Game of Vexing and Perplexing Hexagons Ingenious is an abstract tile-placement game in which the players take turns placing tiles in the shape of two connected hexagons onto a hexagonal grid on the board. The game includes 120 domino-style tiles, each consisting of two hexagons connected along one side. Each hexagon has one of six colored symbols in it, with most tiles having two different colored symbols and some having two of the same colored symbol. Each player has a rack with six tiles on it. During his or her turn, each player places one tile from his or her rack onto two empty hexagonal spaces on the game board. For each of the two hexagons composing this tile, the player scores one point in the hexagon’s color for each already-placed hexagon of the same color that radiates outward in a straight line from one of the placed hexagon’s five sides. If a player’s score in

a color reaches 18, he or she immediately takes another turn. At the end of the turn, the player refills his or her rack to six tiles. When no more tiles can be placed on the game board or when one player scores 18 in each color, the game ends. Players then compare their lowest scores, and whoever has the highest low score wins. Ingenious includes rules for solitaire and team play. This highly awarded, international bestseller is fun for the whole family. Reiner Knizia 1-4 Players  30-45 Min. Ages 8+ 696116

GAMES

Ubongo is a fast-paced, addictive, and easy-to-learn geometric puzzle game. Players race against the timer and against each other to solve a puzzle of interlocking shapes. The faster you solve the puzzle, the more gems you get. The player with the most valuable gem treasure after nine rounds of solving puzzles wins! Here’s how it works: Each player receives a set of 12 tiles. The tiles are polyominos — geometric shapes formed of equal-size squares joined edge to edge in different arrangements. At the start of each round, each player gets a new puzzle board. A roll of the die determines which tiles you must use to perfectly fill in the empty spaces on the puzzle board. Any players who complete the puzzle within the time limit yell out “Ubongo!” and grab a gem at random from the bag. The fastest player also gets a blue gem and the second fastest an amber gem. Each gem color is worth a different amount of points. After nine rounds, the player with the most valuable gem collection wins. Download the free companion app, which helps you learn how to play the game, and includes a game timer, a solo game timer, and solution keys.

Complete these tasks while racing against the timer. You get a point for each sphere you use and a bonus token for using all five colors, but you lose two points for each task card you don’t follow correctly. The Magnetic Labyrinth

The Way of the Elephant

This innovative vertical holder with interchangeable game boards and magnetic game pieces allows you to play three fun, action-packed games. The games are played in teams, playing one at a time. One teammate must move the guide magnet on the backside of the game board, while the other teammate sees the game magnet move on the front of the board. This teammate must communicate with the teammate controlling the magnet and tell him or her how to move the magnet to complete the game challenge without the magnet falling off or going to the wrong spot. In the racing game, the object is speed: Which team can complete the course the fastest? In the golf game, the object is precision: How many strokes does the team need to take to reach the hole? In the stoneage gatherer game, players collect objects to build items for their tribes.

Welcome to the elephant festival in the Indian province of Kerala! Exquisitely decorated elephants parade the streets. The celebration is alive with color and music. To participate in the revelry, you want to fashion the most elegant platform for your elephants. Each round, you move one of your two elephants to place a new tile and expand your platform. You will have to adjust your plans as your rival platform builders grab the desirable tiles before you can get them. You will need clever tactics and good luck to win the award for the best in show!

WORD SLAM The Fast-Paced Word-Based Guessing Game “EAT, YELLOW, CIRCLE. Do you mean pancakes? Or pineapple rings?” “Oh wait, the CIRCLE is DIVIDED? So something that you eat that is yellow and semicircular? Uh, is it, maybe ... a banana?” “Yes, the answer is banana! One point for the Blue Team!” In Word Slam, two teams each have a storyteller. The two storytellers are given the same answer term. Playing at the same time, they must give clues to their teams so the teams can correctly guess the answer. And they must do this quickly, because they are racing the timer and each other. But it’s not that easy. Speaking and acting

is absolutely forbidden for the storytellers! They must tell their stories using only 105 cards, each with one word on it: a noun, verb, adjective, or preposition. The storyteller must be creative in using this limited vocabulary to tell the story. And the team members must think quickly and nimbly to interpret the story cards. The team that correctly guesses the answer first gets a point, and the team with the most points at the end of the game wins. It’s like charades, but instead of acting, you can only communicate with word cards!

MERCADO False Money and True Status As players in Mercado, you assume the roles of wealthy members of upper-class society. To raise your social status, you must buy luxury goods. So you shop around the market for expensive baubles, finery, shoes, jewelry, and perfume — anything that will increase your reputation among the other snobs and social climbers. Several market stands are laid out on the table where you can see valuable products and their prices, which are various combinations of colored coins. But to complicate matters, some of the coins are counterfeit. Every player has his or her own coin purse with different colored coins in it. On a turn, a player grabs blindly into the purse, pulls out three coins, and places them on the market stands of his or her choice. If a player has enough coins on a market stand after a few rounds, the player receives the luxury item from this market stand, and the player earns the corresponding reputation points. The used coins are out of the game for now. Opponent players who also placed coins on this market stand put their coins back into their purses. It is exciting not knowing which coins you will pull out of your purse and hoping for just the right colors to emerge. The players must figure out how to deal with the counterfeit money. Once a few coins are placed, it will be easier to see which items the opponents are going for, and how they plan to achieve standing in high society. Rüdiger Dorn 2-4 Players  30-40 Min. What actions will you take on your path to victory? Will you seek an audience with the king perhaps, to get to the metal you need? The Classic Two-Player Game

A Thorny Feud For Two Players

Who’s Hunting Whom?

Who will rule the South Seas? Two Kahuna — ancient sorcerers of the Pacific — compete for dominance on an archipelago consisting of twelve small islands. Using their magic and wisdom, they struggle for control of the islands. They anxiously await the cards handed to them by fate. But when the time is right, they move to capture one, two, or even more islands, trying to gain the upper hand. At the mercy of the magical powers of the South Seas, they quickly realize that even the best magic is no good without strategy.

England, 15th Century — On one side, the House of York, with its heraldic badge featuring a single, snow white rose. And on the other side, the House of Lancaster, its own heraldic rose depicted in blood red. The War of the Roses, a dynastic struggle for control of the English crown, has erupted between the two houses. In this strategic game, one player commands the House of York and the other, the House of Lancaster. Who will be crowned England’s new king?

The hunter becomes the hunted in this humorous twoplayer game! One player picks up the axe and rifle to assume the roles of lumberjacks and hunters, while the other player slips into the furs of foxes and bears. Both parties hunt ducks and pheasants — and each other — to earn points! At first, the forest is peaceful under a canopy of unrevealed tiles. MAGIC

Beyond the realm of scientific understanding. Unexplainable according to the laws of nature. Is it merely a willing suspension of disbelief ... ... or something more? Magic is a centuries-old performance art that captivates audiences by appealing to their fascination with the inexplicable. Thames & Kosmos offers a line of comprehensive magic sets that help children develop presentation skills, confidence, hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and reading skills, while they have fun performing magic tricks and entertaining audiences.

MAGIC

MAGIC HAT Enter the world of magic and sorcery! Kids as young as six years old can learn and perform 35 magic tricks with this magic hat, rabbit puppet, and more than 40 other magic props. The manual teaches most of the tricks in three easy steps accompanied by color illustrations, first clearly explaining which magic props are needed, then how the trick is prepared, and finally how it is performed. With some practice, it becomes easy to stage a magic show filled with fun and successful tricks that will amaze your audience. Pull a rabbit from a seemingly empty hat. Make a ball disappear from a magic cup, reappear again, and change color. Make cards grow and shrink. Make a coin disappear and reappear with a magic coin box. Use X-ray vision to magically see symbols through a solid, opaque surface. Make your magic wand float, bend, and grow. Magically change the color of a ring, duplicate the ring, and make it pass through the wand. Little foam rabbits appear, disappear, multiply, and move around as if by magic. Astound your audience with rope tricks in which knots untie themselves and dice tricks where dice change location and color inside a magic tunnel. Conjure up money as if out of thin air. Make rabbit cards appear and disappear. Learn simple card tricks with special cards. For one magician, ages 6 and up, and many audience members. 35 Tricks Ages 6+

MAGIC: SILVER EDITION Grab your wand! With high-quality magic props and simple illustrated instructions, the 100 magic tricks in this kit can be easily learned, practiced, and mastered — to stun and amaze audiences! Dots appear and disappear in paddle tricks. Make playing cards come and go and change places. In tricks with money, currency loses value, money doubles in value, and coins disappear from a coin box and then reappear. Coins pass through handkerchiefs, disappear into thin air, and magically stay put when they shouldn’t! Paper money disappears and milk appears out of nowhere in tricks with tubes. A number of tricks involve knots and ropes: Knots in ropes untie themselves, jump from rope to rope, and disappear. A rope passes through solid objects. A bottle floats in the air. A rigid magic wand becomes flexible. A magic wand grows and shrinks, passes through objects,

and emerges from an empty bag. The magic wand twists and levitates. Invisible forces move the wand. The wand tells time. Many tricks can be done with your hands and a magical thumb: A silk pocket square appears out of nowhere, coins get pulverized, objects magically stay dry, salt vanishes, sugar appears, loose sugar becomes a sugar cube, and dollar bills emerge from bread rolls. Fun hanky tricks will have a piece of fabric appearing, disappearing, and getting knotted and unknotted. In food tricks, salt and pepper separate, oranges become apples, and sugar and spice don’t play nice! A 72-page instruction manual with color photographs illustrates how the tricks are performed. Video tutorials for the tricks are available online. For one magician, ages 8 and up, and many audience members. 100 Tricks Ages 8+

MAGIC: GOLD EDITION Master the magical arts! With this extensive collection of magic props, you can easily learn, practice, and perform 150 incredible magic tricks and illusions to astonish spectators. In tricks using cups and balls, balls disappear, appear, and change places inside moving cups. Cotton balls transport themselves from hand to pocket and from hand to hand. In tricks with a tube, confetti and snow appear out of nowhere and dice and knots appear and disappear. A six-sided die baffles the mind and fools the eye. Little rabbit shapes appear, disappear, multiply, and hop around. Metal rings move around, link up, and unlink again Seemingly simple balls aren’t so simple: They appear, disappear, multiply, balance, change places, change colors, and altogether bewilder your audience. A magic wand loses its rigidity, floats in

the air, and lets a rope pass right through it. Knots in ropes appear and disappear, a rope gets cut but stays intact, and a rope is pulled out of your mouth! Learn a wide variety of rope and plastic ring illusions. Coins appear in a dinner roll. Coins cry tears of joy. Cola turns into coins! Many tricks use food and household objects: Water levitates, citrus fruits transform, and toothpicks mystify. Tricks with sugar and salt stupefy the audience. Practice dozens of tricks with playing cards: guessing, transforming, locating, and making cards vanish. A 96-page instruction manual with color photographs illustrates how the tricks are performed. Video tutorials for the tricks are available online. For one magician, ages 8 and up, and many audience members. 150 Tricks Ages 8+

The products in this catalog conform to all applicable mandatory US safety standards. More specifically, the products conform to all applicable US safety standards dictated by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Commercial Practices, Part 16, including the additional provisions established by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and the standards dictated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F963 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety, when applicable. Because many of the products are toys that originate in Germany, they are also often tested according to the European Safety Standard for Toys, EN-71. Results of safety tests conducted by independent laboratories will be provided upon request. When thinking about the safety of science kits in particular, it is important to remember that while most science kits are children’s products, science kits are not toys for play. None of our kits are intended for children under the age of three years, and all of our science kits require the presence and supervision of a responsible parent or adult. Our instruction manuals always provide important safety advice to children, parents, and adults, as well as first aid advice when applicable. Some common safety precautions apply to all of our science kits: 1. A responsible parent or adult must always supervise the experimentation. 2. All users must read the manuals thoroughly before experimentation and follow all instructions and safety advice prescribed in the manuals. 3. The manual and packaging must always be kept ready for reference. 4. The kits must be kept away from children who are younger than the prescribed age. 5. Caution must be used in handling any objects with sharp points or edges, or that may break to yield sharp points or edges. 6. Users should not put any of the parts in their mouths. 7. Users should always wash their hands after experimenting.
