ANNUAL REPORT
2021
DEAR FELLOW TECHSANS,
The year 2021 will be remembered as the one when we prevailed through the pandemic. Despite the ongoing challenges we faced with programs and events, we persevered. This fact is a testament to the loyalty of alumni such as you, as memberships remained strong throughout the year. We finished 2021 with 27,080 members and $2,926,096 in contributions.
In addition, the year will be known for the establishment of the 1923 Society, with 986 members contributing at our Gold, Diamond or Platinum levels. A minimum $1,000 gift secures membership in the society, representing a $19.23 a week commitment to strengthen the associationβs stature as we celebrate our universityβs centennial. The societyβs name is significant because it is 1923, the founding year of Texas Technological College. Most society members represent upgraded memberships, but 10 percent are new contributors. With special recognition, exclusive events and branded apparel for these members, we anticipate continued growth and engagement with the 1923 Society.
The year also brought the beginning of Legacy University, an engaging expansion of our Legacy Club, allowing grandparents to host grandkids on campus for an unforgettable experience. To see the prior generation introducing next gens to Texas Tech in such a personalized way is a powerful opportunity that fits well with our associationβs mission. We expect our Legacy Club to expand over time, helping to recruit next-gen Techsans.
We moved our Official Ring Ceremony to the United Supermarkets Arena. While ring ceremonies took place at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center for more than 20 years, it was time to transition to the arena, providing space for even more friends and family members to participate. This change helped to grow the ring tradition to 2,527 rings sold and boosted the local economy with more participants making a weekend of it in Lubbock. While the ceremony took place in the arena, we hosted post-ceremony receptions in the alumni center welcoming ring recipients to their home away from home. At the end of 2021, 25-year TTAA veteran Mandy Wiley stepped down from her role of overseeing the ring program, having personally tended to thousands of students in her tenure of service.
We presented 498 scholarships in 2021, representing $558,197 in academic support. This number, in addition to the financial assistance we provide for Excellence Grants, Raider Road Shows, Summer Showcase and miscellaneous support, demonstrates that the TTAA proudly maintains its purpose of supporting the academic mission of Texas Tech. We are also grateful for our alumni chapter volunteers who remain committed to generating scholarships for the next generation of Red Raiders in their regions.
The number of alumni networks has increased, registrations continue on the Techsan Connection networking platform and through our dual-membership initiative with South Plains College. The TTAA continues to expand its reach and relevance with our greater alumni community.
By paying $750,000 toward the Frazier Alumni Pavilion expansion note, we made significant progress toward our funding goal. From many smaller contributions to larger naming gifts, we are close to the finish line for this project.
The Texas Tech Alumni Association is in as strong a position as itβs ever been in as far as supporting the university, our students and alumni. This success would not be possible without your annual support. Membership matters and makes a difference! If you encounter fellow Red Raiders who are not members of the TTAA, please encourage them to belong. You are an influential advocate for our continued growth and success.

OFFICIAL TEXAS TECH RING PROGRAM
After more than a year of unprecedented challenges for events because of COVID-19, 2021 saw the opportunity for expansion and enhancement of the Official Texas Tech Ring Ceremony, as inperson events slowly began taking place. Due to growing participation in the tradition, the fall and spring ring ceremonies were moved to the United Supermarkets Arena. The move allows for all ring recipients to participate in one ceremony and provides more room for family and friends. Following the ceremonies, the TTAA hosted a come-and-go reception at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center where ring recipients could take photos in front of the ring sculpture and enjoy refreshments.
Ring sales and the Official Texas Tech Ring Ceremony are important ways the Alumni Association gives back to the university. A portion of each ring sold assists in funding Texas Tech University First Generation Scholarships. The TTAA also gifts each ring recipient a complimentary one-year membership in the TTAA.
LEGACY CLUB
The TTAA Legacy Club was reimagined in late 2020 to create an exciting program for our youngest Red Raiders from birth to age 17. The club is designed to instill a love for Texas Tech and its unique traditions among children, grandchildren and other young ones of loyal TTAA members, creating βRed Raiders in training.β Annual enrollment into the Legacy Club happens in January each year. Each Legacy receives an annual gift and birthday card, as well as access to exclusive events and fun activities during the year.

TEXAS TECHSAN MAGAZINE
Since 1950, one of the most beloved TTAA membership benefits has been the Texas Techsan magazine. In Fall 2020, the magazine underwent a redesign to provide alumni with an even bigger and better glimpse into Texas Tech and the TTAA, to be distributed quarterly. The sleek new perfectbound look includes larger pages, beautiful art, interactive content and additional pages to share even more alumni stories. Members can also enjoy the magazine on the go with the digital publication.

1923 SOCIETY
In 2021, the TTAA launched the 1923 Society as a way to recognize alumni who support the association at the highest giving levels. The 1923 Society is made up of any current TTAA member giving at the Gold, Platinum or Diamond levels. These alumni receive automatic admission into this society at no additional cost. Members of the 1923 Society receive exclusive access to events and special member-only benefits.
βThe Legacy U experience was one of the highlights of my entire association with Texas Tech University. The biggest payoff occurred at the very end of graduation when I looked down and saw my two grandkids with their Guns Up proudly singing βThe Matador Song.β Yes, I broke into tears, and we shared a big group hug. This program is one of the most outstanding initiatives the TTAA has ever undertaken, and the opportunity to participate in Legacy U is a major reason to be a supporting member of the association.β

LEGACY UNIVERSITY
The year 2021 saw the implementation of the inaugural Legacy University, an intergenerational summer camp experience on Texas Techβs campus. The three-day event engages grandparents and their aspiring Red Raider grandchildren in hands-on academic activities, while celebrating the traditions that make Texas Tech unique. Participants attend academic courses where they learn about the subject and enjoy interactive educational projects and graduate with a certificate of completion at the end of the course. The event is held each summer as part of the TTAA Legacy Club. texastechalumni.org/legacyuniversity
