naming opportunities

In the heart of the Cardinal Newman High School campus, there now stands a beautifully designed and constructed student chapel. The St. John Henry Newman Chapel will be a major focal point for our school and community.

We are thrilled to offer Naming Opportunities for the chapel’s eight beautiful stained glass windows. Each naming opportunity offers the donor or family the opportunity to select a window from the list and have a personalized bronze plaque designed and placed on the Chapel wall recognizing their gift.

A very special ‘Thank You’ to our donors who gave generously to ensure our students have a beautiful Chapel on campus for prayer, spiritual reflection and inspiration.

ST. JOHN HENRY

St. John Henry Newman

“Cor ad Cor Loquitor” Heart Speaks unto Heart

St. John Henry Newman was an important figure in the religious history of England in the 19th century. He was both an English theologian and a poet. First an Anglican priest, he later became a Catholic priest and cardinal known for the pursuit of truth and the ability to touch and enlighten the hearts of many.

Cardinal Newman High School was named in his honor and is considered our school’s patron saint.

St. Angela Merici

“Strive to be faithful to that which God has called you.”

St. Angela Merici was an Italian religious educator. She founded the Company of St. Ursula in which women dedicated their lives to the service of the Church through the education of girls. From this organization later sprang the monastic Order of Ursulines, whose nuns established places of prayer and learning throughout Europe and, later, worldwide, most notably for us, here in Santa Rosa.

Ursuline High School was named in her honor. With the closure of Ursuline High School and the acceptance of young women into Cardinal Newman High School in 2011, St. Angela Merici has become co-patron of Cardinal Newman High School.

Blessed Carlo Acutis

“To always be close to Jesus, that’s my life plan.”

Blessed Carlo Acutis is recognized for creating a website to catalog miracles and maintaining websites for local Catholic organizations. He died of leukemia in 2006 at 15 years of age. Not yet a canonized saint, he has already been dubbed “Patron saint of the Internet.”

Pope Francis has spoken about Blessed Carlo Acutis as a model for people who live ‘normal lives’ to grow to holiness.

St. Maria Goretti

Sponsored by the McCormick Family

“Our Lord prefers to wait Himself for the sinners for years rather than keep us waiting an instant.”

St. Maria Goretti is unique in that she is the youngest canonized martyr in the Church. Before dying at age 11 after a brutal attack, she forgave her attacker and inspired him to live a beautiful and converted life of holiness.

Patron saint of chastity, poverty, purity, and forgiveness, she is also considered the patron saint of youth and young people.

St. Louise de Marillac St. Vincent de Paul

“Humble my heart to receive Your graces.”

Along with St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac co-founded of the Daughters of Charity, a congregation of laywomen dedicated to teaching and hospital work.

Known to be intelligent, selfeffacing, and physically strong, St. Louise de Marillac trained girls in the spiritual life and taught them to assist in visiting, feeding, and nursing the needy. She possessed the virtue of forgetting herself completely for the good of others.

“We have all been called by God to work on a masterpiece.”

A French Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor, St. Vincent de Paul was a pioneer in clerical training, instrumental in establishing seminaries, and founder of the Congregation of the Mission and Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul. He was renowned for his compassion, humility, and generosity. Because of his work raising money and helping the poor, St. Vincent de Paul is considered the patron saint of charities and volunteers.

There are a wide range of opportunities for donors to make a gift in support of a Chapel Stained Glass Window Naming Opportunity. You can participate by making a commitment that permits both flexibility and time to complete payments.

It is our hope that Naming Opportunity gifts can be made as a one-time gift to the school, however, if you need time to complete your commitment, we would be pleased to work with you to define a pledge program that works for you.

EXAMPLES OF GIFT TYPES:

• GIFTS OF CASH qualify for a charitable deduction in the year given.

• PLEDGES to the campaign can allow a donor to make a gift over time. Reminders are sent to the donor on the schedule specified by the donor.

• APPRECIATED SECURITIES held for more than one year permit a donor to use the full value of the security at the time of donation as a tax deduction, while avoiding the capital gains tax that would be imposed if the security were sold.
