Der golfplatz von Crans-sur-Sierre hat der Region seit über hundert Jahren wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung und eines der schönsten golfturniere der welt beschert.

Cup teilnehmen können, der parallel zum Omega European Masters stattfand und wo ein Preisgeld von acht Millionen Dollar winkte und nicht bloss zwei Millionen Euro wie in Crans-Montana. Die Differenz macht wohl die Szenerie wett. Die Rundsicht vom Haut-Plateau auf 1500 Meter, hoch über dem Rhonetal mit acht der höchsten Berge der Schweiz, ist schlicht atemberaubend – sofern das Wetter nicht einen totalen Streich spielt, was wirklich selten der Fall ist. Der Golfplatz hat eine fast gleich lange Geschichte wie der Ort, der genau genommen aus sechs Gemeinden besteht; sie alle haben grössere oder kleinere Anteile am legendären Golfkurs. «Crans ist

in the FedExCup in Boston, which is held at the same time as the Omega European Masters, with prize money of eight million dollars to tempt players, instead of the measly two million euros that make up the prize fund in Crans-Montana. The difference is the scenery. The vista from the high plateau above the Rhone valley, situated at an altitude of 1500 metres above sea level, which takes in eight of the highest mountains in Switzerland, is simply breathtaking – providing the weather doesn’t throw a spanner in the works – which it rarely does. The golf course has nearly as long a history as the place itself, which, technically, is actually made up of six municipalities, all of which own larger or smaller parts of the legendary golf course. “Crans is to golf what Egypt is to the Nile,” raves Pierre Ducrey, emeritus
