Introduction to pottery in Bulgaria Pottery is a traditional Bulgarian craft that comes from the Thracians and Romans in our land. That is why this art interweave different styles and stages, passed from generation to generation, from family to family, until today. Pottery is associated with the production of pottery, pots, pitchers, bowls, dishes, pots, casseroles, spoons and other objects. This extremely common craft is being exercised in almost every major city in the past.

The fine decoration on pottery is achieved through several techniques of coloring, engraving, color painting and application of various figures. The engraving is called streaky and is done by turning the potter's wheel, thus forming the famous wavy lines, stripes and curved shapes. The color painting included figures of flowers, birds and other animals. Unfortunately, however, nowadays few people in Bulgaria are still dealing with this craft. But our pupils are eager to learn about it, so let’s see what they think about this ancient craft……………..

Puppets Theatre in Italy From the 17th century until today, in Naples, puppets theatre put down strong roots and saw the rise and consolidation of performances with pupi, with marionette and, with the guarattelle or burattini, that is why we chose this traditional art craft. Artists from IPIEMME (International Puppets Museum ) came in our school and made with our pupils the characters of the Figure Theatre and they also teached to us the differences among Pupi, Marionette and Burattini (Guaratelle). The ‘Pupo’ is animated from above, is sustained by an iron rod which passes through the head and is attached to the chest. The puppet is moved by the puppeteer's hand and arm under their costume and also made lighter by their lack of legs, are much smaller and lighter than the string puppet, moved by a marionettist with strings at the arms and legs.

Quaichs in Scotland The ‘Quaich’ is a traditional drinking cup in Scotland and is often given as a special gift to commemorate an event, such as a wedding, baptism or special visit. A Quaich is also often given as a prize or trophy for winning sporting and other events in Scotland.

The Scottish Team has presented a Quaich to each host school we have visited during the project.

The Quaich is a traditional Scottish drinking cup with two handles (or lugs). The two lugs (which actually means ‘ears’) define it as a cup of friendship. The word ‘Quaich’ derives from the Scottish Gaelic word 'cuach', which is translated as 'cup'. Quaichs have been made from many different materials over the years. The original Quaichs were probably carved from wood, but they have been made variously from clay, silver and most famously, pewter. Our children worked with an artist to design and make their clay Quaichs, learning the techniques of working with clay to produce a decorative finished article based on a real-life traditional object. “Santons” of FRANCE Provence is a historical and cultural region and a former province in the south-east of France ; the Santon is one of the symbols of Provence

The “santons” are small clay figurines, very colorful. The first Provencal cribs arrive in the churches in the 16th century. When they were closed during the French Revolution, the Provencials decided to reproduce the cribs at home, for the Christmas holidays. Tradition was born.

The clay is abundant in the south of France, it is picked up where it is the purest, the finest. The craftman called “santonnier” size in the earth a character model. The santons are then dried, baked at 1000 degrees then painted. They represent the life of the villages and the traditional trades.
