What do you see?

Milos Raonic found a great balance between powerful serving and delicate volleying throughout the Australian summer – but it wasn’t the only notable feature in his game. Here we analyse his vastly-improved backhand volley technique. Raonic's non-dominant arm plays an important role in setting and stabilising the racquet through the dynamic movement.

The racquet is appropriately set above both the wrist and oncoming ball.

Eye gaze remains firmly fixated on the ball helping to detect the speed, spin and direction.

Milos neatly turns his hips and shoulders together, becoming side-on with the oncoming ball.

The use of levers is evident, with the hitting arm extended away from the body, although a slight bend remains to allow for adaptability of the stroke.

Raonic’s back leg has pushed explosively forwards, helping to minimise the backswing and racquet work required. PRESENTED BY
