Second Season North Carolina (‘03)

Coretta Brown, who enters her second season at Tennessee Tech, brings a wealth of basketball experience to the Golden Eagle coaching staff where she will work mainly with the guards this season. “Tennessee Tech has first-class facilities, and I’m excited to be a part of this program,” Brown said. “I have a lot of respect for coach Messer both as a player and a coach.” A four-year standout at North Carolina, Brown played four seasons in the WNBA before beginning her coaching career. A three-time All-ACC honoree and the career record holder for 3-pointers made at UNC, Brown was selected 11th overall in the 2003 WNBA Draft by San Antonio before being traded to Indiana. Brown played three seasons with the Fever before playing her fourth and final season with the Chicago Sky. In addition, Brown played for Team USA at the FIBA World Championships in Russia. Brown has also played overseas in China and Spain.

Brown has also worked numerous camps and clinics throughout both her playing and coaching career. Brown is the daughter of Mary and Clinton Brown and is the youngest of four siblings, Clintina Watts, Cassandra Brown and Kaleshia Cornelius. She was born and raised in Statesboro, Ala. but has grown to like Cookeville in the year she has been here. “I love Cookeville because it reminds me of my home,” Brown said. “Everybody is all about the improvement and prosperity of the Golden Eagles and I love it.”

“Playing overseas definitely made me appreciate my American heritage,” Brown said. “I’m a family oriented person so being away from my family was kind of tough.” Following her playing career, Brown spent two seasons with Georgia Tech as an administrative coordinator where she worked with coach Messer. She then moved to the high school
