elcome to the 2013 Telepresence and Videoconferencing Catalog! For the uninitiated Telepresence Options runs a daughter website called the Telepresence and Videoconferencing Catalog at www. TelepresenceCatalog.com. The site is the most comprehensive overview of visual collaboration solutions found anywhere on the internet with close to 100 different solutions intelligently organized. Our goal is to provide our readers with a “one-stop-shop” where they can discover solutions they never knew existed. Never heard of the company before? We publish Detailed Company profiles for potential partners, distributors, and investors. There is a cost to appear but we keep it low especially when you consider we wrap up on-line, print, and social media into one integrated package and then mail hard copies to the highest quality audience in the world interested in visual collaboration in over 100 countries.

Howard S. Lichtman, Publisher

We also provide “scholarships” for emerging companies (especially if they are emerging from a real garage) because, well, we are entrepreneurs too. Every two years we publish this detailed guide as a “Swiss Flip” with our magazine and readers tell us they tuck it away as a reference guide until we publish the next issue. Thank you for subscribing and please let us know if we can ever be of any assistance. Best regards, HSL Howard S. Lichtman Publisher, Telepresence Options HSL@TelepresenceOptions.com

Break free of conferencing Say hello to visual conversations Magor realized from the start that traditional bridged video conferencing architectures weren’t optimized for supporting the workflows found in today’s businesses. Designed around scheduled meet-me presentation scenarios, bridged architectures struggle to deliver the flexibility needed to meet a wide variety of use cases outside of the meeting room environment. Visual conversations are about a natural workflow. Aerus is the first cloudbased, truly switched software architecture that removes the constraint of the traditional video conferencing meet-onthe bridge single workflow model for multipoint sessions. By removing the need for an multipoint control unit (MCU) to control and manage calls involving more than 2 locations, Aerus not only removes cost from the delivery but also the constraints normally imposed by MCU models, including limitations to layouts, scalability or access to multiple video streams whereby views can be controlled by the end user.

Paul Vlahos realized the presentation needs of business and education were not being addressed, or even understood, by the communications industry. By recognizing presentations are mini-theatrical performances that, if the temper could be captured intact, and enhanced with production values, at an inconsequential cost, they could become an important source for the ever-growing demand for engaging video. Deep experience by the iMatte team in entertainment production technology has provided a unique and fresh approach that has defined a new space in the communication technology market.

The iMatte SightDeck creates stunning presentations with green screen effects, live or recorded, with participants who can be in different locations.

The iMatte team has solved many well-defined problems that have defied the efforts of much larger organizations. SightDeck, the Stealth Studio, solves important problems that have defied even being defined by larger organizations.

At Zoom Video Communications, our mission is to develop a people-centric cloud service that unifies your meeting experience and improves the quality and effectiveness of communications forever. Zoom provides the first Unified Meeting Experience platform that brings HD video conferencing, mobility and web meetings together as a free cloud service. “Zoom’s new UMX service delivers, exceeding our expectations, at a disruptive price,” said David Maldow, Analyst, Telepresence Options.

Key UMX Features Key Innovations: First 3-in-1 Meeting Platform: UMX offers innovative HD video conferencing features such as multi-user, multi-screen, active speaker, spotlight speaker and dynamic layout, along with leading web meeting features such as instant meetings, instant screen sharing, host controls, join by URL, calendaring and recording. UMX is the first to fully “mobilize” these features, so you have a similar experience across tablet and mobile devices. Mobile Screen Sharing: UMX is the first service with screen sharing for both tablet and mobile devices. Now anyone can screen-share a Dropbox or Box document, a website or photos from a smart phone or tablet without the need for a PC. Hybrid Cloud Service: UMX is the first to offer businesses the ability to run meetings in the company network using the Zoom Meeting Connector. The user initiates the meeting in the public cloud, while meeting traffic including video, voice and data goes through the private cloud. This provides additional control for network traffic and instant backup from the public cloud.

• Supports desktop, tablet, mobile and room systems • HD video and HD voice • Instant, high quality desktop and mobile screen sharing • Scheduling, recording and host controls • Up to 25 participants per room • Login with existing email, Facebook or Google account • Use your email, Facebook or Google contact list • Public or hybrid cloud • Single sign-on • REST API for web integration • Mac, Windows, iOS and Android To learn more or start your free meetings, visit http://zoom.us or download the Zoom app from Apple iTunes or Google Play.

H.323 Interoperable: UMX supports H.323 devices deployed in room systems from Polycom and other video conferencing vendors. Users with H.323-based room systems can now easily join HD video meetings and screen share with remote participants on desktop or mobile devices. UMX is the first and only platform to implement standards-based H.323 support as a public cloud service or a hybrid cloud service.

…The Stealth Studio

iMatte, Inc.

Why SightDeck?

Because the World Needs a Stealth Studio CEOs by nature are passionate and articulate when speaking to a group. Why then, in front of a camera, do they appear stiff? What happened to the charisma? It’s camera shyness, performance anxiety, and stage fright. Poor performance can result in front of a camera compared to a room of peers. The same is true for communicators in sales and training. It’s human nature. It’s a prime cause of the high cost of studio production. Too many retakes force in a teleprompter only to reveal he’s even stiffer when reading. In order to get through the day on a reasonable schedule, imperfect performances are patched together in post adding further cost. It’s even harder in front of a green screen with its production crew and studio lighting followed by costly post-production background animation. The result is a “wooden” performance made odd by high production values. SightDeck is the Stealth Studio. It circumvents the phobia of performance. Needing no green screen, no crew or studio lights, it can turn any room; conference room, lecture hall, classroom, large venue conference hall, meeting room, office, telepresence room or training room, into a virtual production studio without the intimidation. The Stealth Studio maintains the ambience of the natural environment so that presenters feel the confidence found with colleagues, familiar surroundings and comfortable lighting. SightDeck makes it possible to capture that illusive inspired performance, produce a polished, interactive, professional quality composite, perform to a live audience, stream to a distant audience and record, all simultaneously. No studio, no crew, and no post-production make SightDeck production costs comparable to voice-over-PowerPoint. Imagine high-energy presentations, with green screen studio quality production captured by the Stealth Studio, the SightDeck.

Together

To Make a Presentation to a Distant Location SightDeck recognizes that the presentation part of a telepresence meeting is as important, if not more important, than the “face-to-face” part. It transforms the presentation experience for the recipients in the room as well as the recipients at a distant location, into something that is capable of being engrossing, memorable and impressive. A recording of a SightDeck presentation is actually watchable and worthy of posting. In a telepresence environment, a presentation becomes a voice-over- graphics experience when looking at the graphics monitor and a talking head experience when looking at the presenter. Sometimes the presenter’s image is tiled onto a corner of the presentation monitor making it more suitable for recording. When the presenter makes a reference to some detail in the graphic he looks down at his computer or at the local presentation monitor as he positions the cursor, either way, his eye-line adds only confusion. To Make a Collaborative Presentation An added benefit is the ability of SightDeck to effectively deliver a collaborative presentation where participants appear together on the screen even though they are in different locations.

Nonprofit Kiva

Kiva is a unique charity where donors support entrepreneurs in by making microfinance loans of as little as $25. Kiva “lenders” can choose from thousands of entrepreneurs and target their loan to a specific country, sector, gender, and/or attributes like green or higher education initiatives. A typical borrower might be a Peruvian woman who makes peanut butter by hand looking for $750 to buy a machine to quadruple her output. Multiple Kiva members fund the loan and a local charity (called a field partner) administers the loan and collects repayments. As the loan is paid back the money is deposited back into the lender’s Kiva account where they can lend again to another entrepreneur in need in a virtuous cycle that creates jobs and local economic development. www.kiva.org Telepresence Industry Professionals Kiva Lending Team www.kiva.org/team/tip

Overview

Building on our core management platform, ScienceLogic provides the most comprehensive video conferencing and telepresence management solution on the market today, supporting the major video equipment brands and delivering the functionality necessary to ensure a high quality video conference experience. The video management solution provides a holistic view of the entire video infrastructure, the networks it is running on, and all related metrics and systems for seamless and proactive management of large-scale, complex video deployments. ScienceLogic Power-Packs are designed to work out-of-the-box—automatically discovering all video conference and Telepresence assets on the network and applying the recommended monitoring policies for optimal availability and performance. Proactive management is essential to ensure QoS and optimal service delivery of video services.

Key Features

In-Call Performance Statistics While a video conference is active, the ScienceLogic system proactively monitors the call, collecting call quality statistics each minute and providing alerts when call quality drops below an acceptable threshold. When supported by the endpoint, data is collected for both directions of transmission as well as for all media streams – including video, audio, and presentation. Fault Management The ScienceLogic system monitors all aspects of the endpoints to ensure that the devices are fully operational and ready to participate in the next video conference. The system generates an event when it detects a problem. Historical Call Quality Statistics The call quality data is stored in the ScienceLogic central repository to enable rapid troubleshooting of problems after they have occurred. Additionally, the data is consolidated for trending, capacity planning, and service level reporting.

48 Telepresence Options Catalog

Configuration Monitoring The system retrieves configuration data to enable quick troubleshooting and proactive alerting on misconfigured items. Asset Information ScienceLogic provides an asset database that is automatically populated upon discovery and provides the capability to track assets, generate asset inventory reports, and validate the software release level. Reporting ScienceLogic reports provide valuable information, including utilization stats that can be used to determine ROI. Multi-tenancy Video service providers can use a single instance of the ScienceLogic solution and a single console in their VNOC to monitor individual customers whose data is kept secure and separate from others. Similarly, enterprise IT staff can take advantage of this multi-tenancy to monitor and manage video conferencing systems in different departments, business units, or geographies. Portal Capabilities Managed video service providers can easily create branded portals that offer each customer secure views into the operation of their own videoconferencing equipment and network. Furthermore, customers can be given the option to create and track tickets via the same portal.

WolfVision

The Polycom® UC Board solution is the perfect solution to transform any whiteboard or LCD monitor into an interactive video whiteboard space and it natively integrates with the Polycom HDX®video system in the room. Sharing ideas in any video session is as simple as picking up a pen and starting to write, draw, and interact.

A WolfVision Ceiling Visualizer is the perfect accessory for any videoconferencing or telepresence system, because most users benefit from the ability to show documents and objects quickly and easily ‘live’ onscreen. It is a true interactive tool, enabling participants to show every detail of a physical object from any angle, or simply for drawing and sketching ideas on a piece of paper. It eliminates the need to send samples to offices overseas and is a valuable aid to real-time discussion and decision making.

Polycom is the only manufacturer to offer this ease of use and native integration for video whiteboarding by creating a direct connection from the video codec to any standard whiteboard or LCD in the room. Users just walk up to the board and pick up the stylus, and as soon as the pen touches the whiteboard, remote participants see the notations and are immediately engaged.

Typical applications include product demonstrations, design evaluation, live troubleshooting on a piece of equipment, looking at large drawings, sketching ideas on a piece of paper, performing product training, using as a scanner, and many more.

Video Registry network/exchange

The Video Registry is a scalable database driven solution that maps video user end-point data to network addressable identifiers across a Video Service Providers (MSP) network. Querying the Registry returns optimal routing information, ensuring calls can go directly between video end-points, avoiding unnecessary and costly interworking network elements such as MCU’s. The service enables MSP’s to more efficiently manage inbound and outbound video communications by creating a gateway access point for signaling and address management. The Video Registry consists of three service layers: Registry engine: Enables MSP’s to allocate and maintain a centralized routing plan in a complex network environment, removing the need to update and manage multiple platforms with routing information. Policy Engine: Allows full control over the terms of interconnection between Enterprise customers .The Policy management engine can be integrated into provisioning systems via API’s. Directory: Enables end-users to search for the video contact information of other users within partner organizations directly from their browser. Directory functionality can be integrated into a variety of video clients via an API or accessed from a secure web portal.

The Registry is available in three deployment options:

telepresence and videoconferencing CATALOG Nonprofit Fluoride Action Network

Bicycles for Humanity is a non-profit that collects unused bikes in North America, Europe, and elsewhere in the western world and ships them to developing countries, primarily in Africa, where they change lives by providing transportation for local entrepreneurs, charities, and deserving individuals.

The Fluoride Action Network (FAN) is leading the charge to broaden the understanding of the dangers of Fluoride and have it removed from public water supplies around the world. FAN has organized over 4100+ health, scientific, and environmental professionals including Nobel Laureates, Goldman Prize Winners, National Medal of Science Winners, and the current president and 6 past presidents of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.

Nonprofit Bicycles for Humanity

Some of the groups that benefit from Bicycles for Humanity include: Women, who typically spend more time walking than men by performing domestic duties like gathering food, water and firewood. Children, who face long walks to school and arrive too tired to learn, or simply don’t attend. Healthcare workers, who often walk long distances to provide medication and counseling to people living with HIV/AIDS and malaria in their homes.

Nonprofit Vacation for Veterans

Vacations for Veterans provides recently wounded veterans of the United States Armed Forces with a well-deserved vacation. The organization collects donations of unused time in vacation homes which they then pair up with deserving vets. Occasionally, through the generosity of donors, they are able to provide amenities like airline tickets, a rental car, and even the occasional fishing trip.
