An annual event is coming to Tehachapi. The 13th annual Chalk on the Walk, sponsored by Tehachapi Valley Arts Association, will bring the sidewalks of Downtown Tehachapi to life with glorious color and artistic talent, Saturday, Aug. 10. Street painting, with chalk as a temporary medium, is an Italian art form tradition, dating back to the 16th Century. Painters known as “Madonnari” would travel from village to village, telling their stories with chalk in the village squares. A phenomenal group of artists will converge on the downtown sidewalks to display their interpretations of this historical art form. Artists of all ages and skill levels draw for pleasure, prizes and ribbons along Tehachapi Boulevard and Green Street.

Sponsorships of $100 or more will be printed on the annual t-shirt and will include a 4-foot by 4-foot sidewalk space and 24 professional chalks. All proceeds will benefit scholarships to graduating Tehachapi students who are continuing their education with an emphasis on art. Call 822-6062 or 823-4308 for information.
