Assen is the only venue to have held a round of the Motorcycle World Championship every year since its creation in 1949. The circuit was purpose built for the Dutch TT in 1955, with previous events having been held on public roads. The track is narrow, with rapid changes in direction, and is fully surrounded by grass banks and grandstands, providing excellent viewing for the hundreds of thousands of fanatical spectators who are drawn to the most prestigious event in Dutch motorsport every year. A huge favourite with riders, Assen is well known for its festive and extravagant atmosphere. In 1999 the circuit was modified with a new grandstand, control tower, press centre and renovated boxes. Modifications to the Assen circuit over the winter of 2005/6 saw the length of the championship’s longest serving track cut from over 6km down to 4.555km/2.83miles. Assen est le seul circuit ayant accueilli le Championnat du Monde chaque année depuis sa création en 1949. Conçu pour le Dutch TT, disputé sur un parcours routier jusqu’en 1955, ce tracé étroit impose des changements de direction vifs ; les collines verdoyantes et les tribunes permettent à plus de 100 000 spectateurs de profiter de la plus prestigieuse épreuve de sports mécaniques des Pays-Bas. Circuit très apprécié par les pilotes, Assen jouit aussi chaque année d’une ambiance festive inimitable. La circuit a été modifié en 1999 avec l’addition d’une nouvelle tribune, d’une nouvelle tour de contrôle, d’un ‘media centre’ ainsi que de nouveaux garages. Les modifications réalisées sur le tracé ont raccourci ce qui était la plus longue piste du calendrier avec 6 km à 4,555 k .Assen ist die einzige Strecke, die seit seinem Bau 1949 in jedem Jahr Gastgeber der Motorrad-Weltmeisterschaft war. Die Strecke sollte 1955 für die Dutch TT erbaut werden, obwohl schon frühere Events auf öffentlicher Straße ausgetragen wurden. Die Strecke ist schmal mit schnellen Richtungswechseln und ist komplett von Gras und Tribünen umgeben, die für exzellente Sicht der hunderttausend fanatischen Zuschauer sorgen, die jedes Jahr von neuem zum größten niederländischen Motorsportevent pilgern. Nicht nur die Fahrer mögen die Strecke, Assen ist auch für gute Stimmung und eine extravagante Atmosphäre bekannt. 1999 wurde der Circuit mit einer neuen Tribüne, einem Kontrollturm, Pressezentrum und renovierten Boxen versehen. Im Winter 2005/2006 wurde der Streckenverlauf abgeändert und die längste Strecke wurde über 6 Kilometer auf 4,555km/2,83 Meilen eingekürzt.
