DESIGN DETAILS Even before it unleashes its pièce de résistance, the NX90 makes a statement with sleek, clean lines and polished aluminium finish.

The NX90 is the first laptop that can truly say it provides a “home theatre” entertainment experience, delivering the audio equivalent of full HD 1080p visuals.

“We tried to break the stereotypical impression of laptops and create new values for it. The audio-visual experience is something that was previously neglected,” said master designer David Lewis, the man behind Copenhagen-based design firm David Lewis Designers. The firm’s main client is Bang & Olufsen, whom David Lewis has designed numerous award-winning products for since 1967. So when it comes to audio, the man clearly knows what he is talking about. “We believe high definition audio can profoundly improve the visual experience.”

The NX90 breaks the laptop mould. While most aim for portability, the NX90 seeks to establish itself as a laptop that takes centre stage in the living room.

In many aspects, the NX90 is a laptop of “firsts”.

Speakers found on laptops currently on the market are limited by the chassis size. What ASUS has done is move them out to the sides of the LCD panel – a world’s first.

ASUS’ innovative approach sees the NX90’s tower speakers standing upright by the side of the screen, in effect giving it a combined speaker chamber volume of 108cc – up to 10 times that of normal laptops. From this position, sound is projected towards the user, instead of up or down like most other laptops.

The speakers’ proximity to the hinges also adds stability – thus eliminating noise from vibration.
