RED RAIDERS LOOK TO SNAP STREAK AGAINST BAYLOR Texas Tech begins the second half of Big 12 play Wednesday night when the Baylor Bears travel to Lubbock for a 6:30 p.m. match at the United Spirit Arena. THE SERIES Despite falling to Baylor earlier this season in Waco, Texas Tech still maintains a 48-22 all-time advantage over the Bears in a series that dates back to 1976. Baylor has won the previous 13 matches, though, as the Red Raiders’ last win over the Bears came in five sets on Oct. 27, 2004 in Lubbock. Tech controls a 24-8 advantage over Baylor in matches played in Lubbock. LOOKING AHEAD The Red Raiders will have the weekend off thanks to an open date on Saturday. Tech resumes Big 12 play on Nov. 2 in College Station for a 6:30 p.m. match against the Texas A&M Aggies. The Red Raiders do not return to the United Spirit Arena until Nov. 9 when 10th-ranked Texas arrives in Lubbock for a 6:30 p.m. match. LAST TIME OUT AGAINST BAYLOR Baylor overcame a 7-2 deficit in the opening set and kept its momentum going in a straight-set victory over Texas Tech Oct. 5 at the Ferrell Center in Waco. Breeann David and Amanda Dowdy led Tech with 10 kills each while Miara Cave added nine of her own. The Red Raiders were held to only 34 kills and a .175 hitting percentage, while Baylor dropped 51 kills and a .260 average. The loss was Tech’s third-straight in Big 12 play. DOWDY MOVES TO SECOND ALL-TIME IN KILLS Amanda Dowdy took one more step up the Texas Tech record book against Texas A&M, moving to second all-time in career kills early into the second set. The senior now has 1,362 kills over her career after dropping 12 last weekend at Kansas. She passed Melissa McGehee, who totaled 1,333 kills from 1999-2002. After starting the year ranked fifth in kills, Dowdy is now second in the category as well as career attempts. Only Kelly Johnson stands in her way of moving even further up the school charts as Johnson notched 1,925 career kills and 5,142 attempts during the 2001-04 seasons. RED RAIDERS THREE WINS SHY OF FIRST WINNING SEASON SINCE 2001 Tech’s magic number to ensure a winning season remains at three entering Wednesday night’s match against Baylor. Tech has seven Big 12 matches left and one non-conference contest remaining at San Jose State. The Red Raiders’ last winning season came in 2001 when Tech finished 18-14 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
