Introduction The sight word activities in this book derived from a combination of needs. I was teaching a composite class and needed easily prepared activities and my colleague, Toni Davis, required some new and interesting activities for her early learners, to help consolidate their learning of sight words.

usually as a homework task, with corresponding class activities involving two activity pages reinforcing the learning process. These activities can be effectively used in conjunction with other classroom activities to consolidate children’s word knowledge, e.g. modelled writing, oral reading, story telling and so on.

requirements are reinforced by being modelled and repeated on a page several times.
At the completion of each list of thirteen words a revision sheet is provided to further reinforce the children’s learning and to evaluate their level of understanding (“Do you know your words?” pages 19 and 35). In addition a means of children recording their progress is provided in the “Words I know” sheets on pages 20 and 36.
