Are donations to DePaul considered tax-deductible contributions by the IRS?

How does the new tax law affect the benefits that I am eligible to receive?

Yes, donations to DePaul University Athletics are tax-deductible contributions at the highest limits allowed for federal income or estate tax purposes. DePaul University is a qualified public charitable organization and meets the requirements of Internal Revenue Code 501 (c)(3). See Internal Revenue Service website http://www. irs.ustreas.gov/taxtopics/tc506.html for more information on deducting charitable contributions or contact our Gift Processing team with any questions you may have at 312-362-8666 or giving@depaul.edu.

Any contribution is reduced by the fair market value of all goods and services a donor receives in exchange for the gift. Contributions to the DePaul Athletics entitle the donor to certain benefits. If you desire 100% tax deductibility for your gift, you may decline your right to receive any benefits in writing at the time you make your contribution. Can a gift be designated to a specific fund?

How does the new tax law affect my donation?

Yes, DePaul Athletics Development recognizes gifts to all athletic funds when determining Champions Club giving benefits.

Under the latest tax legislation, if you make a contribution for the benefit of the University and then receive (directly or indirectly) benefits, these gifts are no longer tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor for more information on these recent changes.

In contrast to most other athletic departments, DePaul awards Champions Club benefits to the donors whether the gift be to a sport-specific fund, a scholarship fund or a unrestricted gift to Fund for Athletics.

If you have additional questions, please call 773-325-7240 or email tdohrn@depaul.edu.

Giving Opportunities Sport Specific Funds

Contributions to individual sports provide supplemental funding for each of DePaul’s athletics programs. These funds are used to enhance the student-athlete experience at DePaul by covering costs that aren’t part of the general operating budget.

Scholarship Giving

Each year, a large part of the athletics budget is spent on scholarship expenses. DePaul currently has a number of scholarship endowments that help defer that cost. Giving to one of these funds, or creating a new one, is a great way to invest in the future of our athletes.

Endowed Scholarships

DePaul Athletics currently has more than 50 endowed scholarships and funds. These scholarships provide opportunity for our student-athletes to compete and experience the life-changing journey of intercollegiate athletics. Donors can insure the future of Blue Demon Athletics by leaving a legacy through the naming of an endowed scholarship. A pledged gift of $50,000 is required to meet the initial standard to name a scholarship in perpetuity.

Expendable Scholarships

Donors can make an immediate impact on DePaul’s student-athletes through an Expendable Scholarship gift. Those gifts can be earmarked to support specific sports.

Facility Projects

DePaul Athletics is committed to providing a first-class experience for our student-athletes and providing facilities that allow them to maximize their talents. Most recently DePaul, through the generosity of its donors was able to build Wintrust Arena, which has enhanced the experience of all DePaul student-athletes and students in general. When supporting facility initiatives like Wintrust Arena, donors committing to gifts of $25,000 are eligible to receive a naming opportunity for the life of the facility.
