plaza Midwood “Why did we choose Plaza Midwood?” ocated just northeast of uptown, Plaza Midwood is home to a thriving business district, a picturesque historic neighborhood, and one of Charlotte’s most prestigious country clubs. The focus of the neighborhood is The Plaza, a tree-lined boulevard that bisects it north to south, from Central Avenue to its intersection with Parkwood Avenue. The neighborhood gets its name from The Plaza and Midwood, one of its larger subdivisions. The Plaza Midwood business district features an exciting blend of antique and consignment stores and art galleries. Boutique shops offer unique clothing and home furnishings and accessories. Locally owned restaurants give diners the choice of everything from Southern home-style cooking to authentic ethnic cuisine. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

“I was 25 years old when I opened Okra. I am the sole owner. I do not have any angel funders or loans, meaning that a huge part of my business has been built from community donations of time and resources. I feel that I am an influential person in the changing and shaping of Plaza Midwood. I am on both the board of the Plaza Midwood Merchants Association and the PM Neighborhood Association, both of which I have been on for two years. I have lived in Charlotte for those two years and in that time, I have opened a successful yoga, massage and tea/coffee lounge that won Best of Yoga Venue by Creative Loafing. “My vision is to create a space in Charlotte where people can gather and heal through pursuing their own unique passions. I am committed and excited to facilitate this, not only in my own space at Okra, but I also hope to inspire many others to make a big jump to do the

same within their own businesses and communities. “I have to honor the amazing support from so many people that has allowed me to build this incredible community in Charlotte; without them it wouldn’t be possible. “Plaza Midwood truly showcases the diversity and passion that exists within Charlotte and serves as a model for a community that supports itself because of each individual’s unique gifts, not despite them.” Alicia Roskind Owner • Okra LLC ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• “My favorite thing about living in Plaza Midwood is the people. I love them! Plaza Midwood is the epitome of Bohemia and I hope it stays that way. “My favorite thing to do in the neighborhood is to walk our tree-lined streets and chat with neighbors, petting their dogs, and dishing about this or that.
