Mr Shane Cunliffe demonstrating good goalie techniques for hopeful AIMS GAMES Boys Football Players

Dear Students, Parents and Caregivers, We are already halfway through the school term and the countdown has begun for the NZCT AIMS GAMES. 5,800 students from 151 schools from New Zealand and Australia will travel to Tauranga to compete across 16 sporting codes over six days. Selections for our sporting codes continue and will be finalised before the end of term two. Students who are interested in being selected for teams must listen to the daily notices and attend meetings and trials. It is great to hear of the progress of Mr Brett Hampton from the opposite side of the globe. His successful start to the season in Holland is great news and we look forward to continued updates. All the best from TIS! We welcome families to come and support our students on Friday 22 June for the largest Primary School Cross Country in New Zealand. 1190 students will compete over the 3km course. Individual and house honours will be hotly contested. Racing starts at 9.00am with the Year 7 Girls. Kind regards Gareth Scholes Deputy Principal

SPORT BOP FLURO GOLF FUN DAY On Monday 21 May the Golf Fluro Fun Day was held at Te Puke Golf Course. Tauranga Intermediate was one of few schools that went to the Golf Fluro Fun Day. We had 11 teams, with 4 people in each of them, so that's an awesome e f f o r t f r o m t h e s t u d e n t s o f Ta u r a n g a Intermediate. As we waited for our turn to tee-off, and despite the cold frost and all the water getting into our shoes, our thoughts were jam packed about what the day had planned for us. Everybody seemed to have a great round, from the more experienced golfers to the beginners just out there for a hit. The flouro theme was a huge success and there were some awesome outfits and accessories!! The morning ended with some awesome spot prizes from Gatorade to chocolate bars!! We are all looking forward to the next Golf Fun Day.

GREETINGS FROM HOLLAND Holland… After about 34 hours of travel I 6inally arrived. As I stepped out the airport my 6irst thought was “I don’t think I brought enough warm clothes”. It was freezing and wet. It’s continued on being wet and cold for the 6irst few weeks that I’ve been here, but now its started to warm up. Tomorrow’s high is 25 (24 May) and it’s suppose to be sunny for the rest of the week. I will believe that when I see it! I’m living in a place called Schiedam. Its has the population of Rotorua but about a 100th of its size. Rotterdam the second biggest city in Holland is about a 20 minute bike. Yes ... everyone rides bikes everywhere here. Everything is very close and I’m yet to see a hill.

Coming in for a

The cricket has started very well so far. I’m playing bowl for a club called Excelsior 20. It’s a football and cricket club in Schiedam. Our team has a array of different cultures. Two South Africans, two Pakistanis, a Danish, a few Dutchies and of course a Kiwi. We have started the season of mainly playing T20 cricket. We are currently 5 from 5 are looking good to win our pool. Also we’ve played one 50 over game that we also won. Personally I have been going alright with a few runs and wickets. Games are going to be get a lot tougher from here on in. One team has about 7 of the Dutch International team in it. All sporting students should be keeping a record/log of their achievements throughout the year - participation, representation, captaincy, placings, records etc. so this information is readily available at the end of the year for our Sports Prizegiving. [5]

NZCT AIMS GAMES - 9 SEPTEMBER - 14 SEPTEMBER Although the NZCT AIMS GAMES are just over 3 months away, this event is a major highlight on our Sporting Calendar. We field teams in as many events as possible and are eager to get our students in top condition and well drilled before the tournament. Training squads will get underway this term and trials will take place. Therefore it is imperative that students listen to notices and ask questions. This year there are 16 Sporting Codes making up the 2012 AIMS GAMES with the introduction of Rugby League. Other codes are Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Gymsports, Hockey, Indoor Bowls, Multisport, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, and Waterpolo. Last year we had over 210 students competing and we ‘topped’ the table by winning 5 cups and 49 medals. For information about this tournament go to www.nzaimsgames.co.nz This year there is a record number of schools - 151 with 2 basketball teams coming from Australia, the competition is going to be very fierce. The organisers are predicting over 5,800 competitors this year!

BILLETS! BILLETS! BILLETS! FAMILIES REQUIRED SUNDAY 9 SEPTEMBER – FRIDAY 14 SEPTEMBER 2012 NZCT AIMS GAMES – BILLETS FROM SOUTH ISLAND We have been approached again from Christchurch Intermediate Schools to host sporting students who are competing in the NZCT AIMS GAMES. We have helped out these schools in the past and wish to continue assisting them as it is hugely expensive for them to travel to this National Sporting Event. Billeting would be from Sunday 9th September – Friday 14th September. Once at school their team would make their own travel arrangements for the day with team mini-vans.

Chisnalwood Intermediate have approx. 36 students. So if you’re up for a new experience that week, where you’ll: * Meet and get to know students from the South Island * Can provide a bed, meals and a safe family home for the students * Get them to school each day where they will make their own travel arrangements then, we would love to hear from you! ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please return to the Sports Office
