ALEXA BRICE

In its simplest form, art is creation. I originally set out to be a creator. Art came along with that. My journey through art has evolved and changed over time, but at its core, it offers me the medium through which I channel my soul. Whether it be a complex piece that leaves my audience questioning or something to lift their spirits, my art is meant to reveal those emotions. For me, there is no limitation on medium. I work with just about anything. The emotion and significance of each piece is vastly more important. Creation is the most glorious thing I can think of to spend my time and effort. Art fills that need and I hope that it can leave a lasting impact on those who see it.

LYDIA CHANDLER

As an artist, I focus on drawing, watercolor, and photography. I enjoy working with pencils and watercolors because they are easily altered or erased, nothing you put on the paper is permanent. As a perfectionist, I prefer being able to adjust the lines and colors, not just settle for the first thing I put down. I have practiced my drawing often, and now I can sketch an image fairly easily, while before I always wanted to trace it to ensure accuracy. I like photography because the ability to capture moments in time fascinates me. I love taking candid photos of people and animals, to reveal their true personalities and actions. Horses are definitely my biggest inspiration, especially my horses Cassidi and Cain. I especially love portraying the beauty, charisma, and motion of horses. No matter the medium, art helps me show everyone else how I see people, animals, and the world in general.

CHARLOTTE JONES

Art has always been present in my life. Both my parents studied art in college, so I guess it runs in the family. I have always been a painter/drawer but recently I’ve tried to experiment with different mediums. I tried to make a little box made out of popsicle sticks with an image on each side, but it looked more like a kid’s art project rather than an AP studio art portfolio piece. I think I’ll stick to paint and pencil for now. I tried out oil paint for the first time last year and really enjoyed it. It also very much fits my procrastinator personality ,which is great. I tend to paint objects, landscapes, and people. The sort of pieces you find framed in a house. I chose my AP portfolio theme to be “Nostalgia” because having my childhood memories displayed in a series of works interested me. I love to make art to give people as sentimental gifts. I hope one day I will be able to fill my future house with all my artwork.

ANNIE MOWLL

I have a family full of artists and was originally inspired by my mom and brother to get into art. My favorite medium is paint and I most enjoy taking photographs and using different painting styles and colors to reinvent them. I love to paint beautiful architecture and have recently been experimenting with new forms of mediums to change up my style. This year I have begun painting a series of doors and doorways to represent important milestones in life.

KENDAL ANDRESS

Blooming I create art for the fun of producing tangible pieces of what I imagine. Not hoping for a specific outcome or planned piece, but rather artwork that has changed throughout the creative process and includes my evolving ideas and comments from others. I have worked with all mediums, my favorites including printmaking and acrylic paint. Printmaking allows me to think of my artwork completely reversed, offering a new perspective and pushing me to think harder about each detail and layer. I am inspired by colors, childhood photos, and things I notice around me. To me, art has always been a form of relaxation, cutting into linoleum, or blending paint on a canvas. I feel peaceful while also excited to see how my ideas will evolve.

Secretly Van Hogh Art can be so many different things, from movement, to visual, to sound and endless possibilities. With infinite colors in the world, and the mounting opportunities at every corner to create something different, how can you not just have fun and be creative! I always put creativity and enjoyment as my number one priority, generating artwork with a goal of trying to make something different every time. In almost every piece there is some sort of fun aspect brought in whether its seemingly senseless titles or random unique additions. I never excessively pre-plan as to me, creating art is about winging it and going with the flow, constantly coming up with ideas as I go and never halting the creative process. To be an artist you do not have to be amazing at what we would think of as a traditionally ‘good’ artist, all you need is creativity and the ability to have fun. Art is subjective, and anything is great art if you say it is. :) Purchase originals and prints at

Something Fishy

This year I chose to work with new mediums that I had never used before. I have found that I love to work with clay and printmaking. I also love to use my photography skills to create pieces that represent me by taking pictures everywhere I go. I find so much peace in my art when working with these mediums. I learned a lot about my creative process this year, especially when it came to the fact that sometimes your project meet your expectations and sometimes they don’t.

Remedy Diving into art and taking it seriously is a recent endeavor for me. I have always enjoyed art but I have never really tried making any because I felt that I would never make anything good. I have been working on finding exactly what I like to do in art and as in many other things. I find it difficult to be passionate and proud about something. As I have been making art, I hope to find what I like and am able to bring the Ideas in my head into reality.

CARINA FERRETTI Playing the Blues I have always loved art because it is one of the few things that you can’t do wrong. Art allows you to be as creative as much or as little as you want. There are no guidelines in art, you can create whatever you want; Heck, in the 1950s, an artist named Mark Rothko simply painted a canvas yellow and blue which sold for $46.5million. But that’s what’s so great about it, sometimes the simplest things end up being the best art. When I create art, I try not to overthink it, I just do, and see what happens. However, if I’m being honest, it of course doesn’t always go as planned, but in a way that’s a good thing because it forces me to adapt and learn a new way to work with the material. When I pick a piece of art to create, I always do something that I will be passionate about and want to perfect. I’ve worked in many different mediums such as painting, drawing, woodworking, ceramics, mosaics, and many more. The ability to work in all types of different mediums is something that I love about art, it’s that you are never done learning, there is always something to improve and learn. Art is one of, if not the oldest tradition known to man and I’m so appreciative to have it in my life. Purchase originals and prints at

LYDIA HOLBROOK

Focus Video game design is a big passion of mine. My art reflects my love for video games. I have created stories in my brain since I was a child. I enjoy drawing both digitally and traditionally, and I love creating new characters, landscapes, shapes, weapons, and worlds. Pretty much every large art piece I’ve made has been inspired by or references a video game. I want to make art to tell stories about the worlds and characters I create. For some pieces I make, I want people to be able to create an idea of what the story behind that piece is. When I make characters, I make them so you can know everything about them just by looking at them. The reason I make art like this is because it makes me happy, and because I want to make others happy. I have so many fond memories of playing video games and the impacts they have left on me. I want someone to experience those same feelings that I had when they see my art.

SARA KANE

Untamed Covergirl When I was young, art was always a part of my life. Art supplies were left out on my table and my love for art grew from there. I have always had a deep need to express myself and I do it through my art. Art is important to me because you can see the world from a different perspective. Art means a lot to me because it is a way I can express and advocate for myself and other people. Having art as a creative outlet has helped me throughout my life and has made me appreciate art even more. As I have grown up, I have learned that sometimes it is easier to express myself through artwork. I am inspired by the world around me. Observing society today has influenced the way I do my art. Sometimes I am inspired by what is happening in the world and other times I do it just for me. Living in today’s society, I am able to experience so much and be inspired by so many things. If I can help portray how I feel through my art, maybe another person might connect with it and know that they are not alone. Purchase originals and prints at

ANNETTE KHOSRAVI

Prehistoric Cocktail I possess a variety of interests, and art allows me to incorporate all those interests into my different pieces of artwork. My passion for animals inspires much of my artwork and I like to incorporate animals or elements of the natural world in my pieces. I like to paint, sculpt and draw animals because they are fascinating to me.I love to consider and capture their beauty in a piece of art. However, I am equally intrigued by artwork that has many different meanings. I transfer aspects of my dreams into pieces of art as a way to express myself through a creative outlet. I find joy in simply creating things, whether it be something I can display on a wall or wear as a necklace. I equally enjoy color and adding as many different colors to a piece. I like to use random and obscure materials in my pieces because I think they are fun and add unique elements.

KATE MCCONNEL

Weaving Through To the security guards’ dismay, at art museums, my nose is always way too close to the paintings. I always want to see the brushstrokes and the artist’s personal imprint, as I think the power of artwork is in its creation, rather than the outcome. In my own work, I want viewers to be drawn to the overlooked, fine details because that is how a person can glimpse into my creative process and truly experience the artwork. My primary medium is painting, but I feel that is just the basecoat of a piece. Throughout this year, I have found that there is so much to be offered from a variety of textures and other materials, and incorporating them has pushed me out of my comfort zone. I also really enjoy playing with color, so a lot of my artwork is monochromatic or bold. Presentation is another focus of mine, as I try to ask myself how creativity can be integrated into all aspects of the piece, even the frame or canvas. A lot of my inspiration begins with an observation or a picture but the piece always takes on a mind of its own. Because of this, my work is neither realistic nor abstract, but a mixture of a moment and my imagination. I think an artist follows the needs of the painting, regardless of the intended vision. As a very type-A person, art is one of the only outlets where I have become more flexible. As you view my work from this year, you will see a collection of vignettes, emotions, and overall a reflection of me in each piece, as art is a reflection of the artist.

HANNAH MORGAN

Cumulus Reflection My work explores the boundaries of nature and human nature. It consists consists of photography, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture. Ever since I was little, I have been fascinated by the way humans interact with nature. What begins as pure curiosity turns to experimentation and then violence. The purpose of my art is to rekindle the curiosity associated with nature. When observing my work I encourage the feelings of hope, whimsy, wonder, and relaxation.

RIYA PATEL

Endless Summer I am a 2D artist. I love the feeling of creating something beautiful that I can be proud of with my own two hands. I really like acrylic paintings because I love working with the various colors and paints in order to develop a dynamic and creative piece. I am constantly being inspired by the world around me. I often take inspiration from nature and the environment and weave them into my pieces. I feel like art has helped me grow as a person and has given me a creative outlet to use whenever I have felt overwhelmed or stressed. I believe that everyone could make room for creativity in their lives whether it is actually working on a project or just appreciating others artwork.

SABRIA STREETT

Three Peas in a Pod I have many incentives when it comes to developing artwork. I commonly don’t sketch precisely what I choose to do, so I can let my imaginative aspect take over. I will generally select paint or ceramics due to the fact that is what interests me the most. I enjoy being hands-on and being in a position to shape and see how the ceramic pieces that I’ve made slowly emerge as what it’s supposed to be. I find pleasure in being open to making artwork that I haven’t tried before. Being able to create something while analyzing what I like and dislike about it is relaxing. Many things that I like to make are nature-themed pieces. I absolutely enjoy being out in nature and the sensation that I experience when I am outside. All of these components combined are the reason I enjoy art and it gives me a lot of satisfaction. Purchase originals and prints at

SIMONE MINOR I work with different mediums to construct three dimensional works. I primarily use clay in my pieces because I enjoy how it has the ability to be molded into anything. Ceramics are so unique because the clay’s development overtime reveals a hidden story. Clay is anything but a predictable medium. All it takes is one mistake, the slightest one and your piece can critically change which then impacts the initial significance. It’s a high intensity feeling when you pour your time and energy into a body of work with one intention and the clay decides that it has something else to say. I’ve learned to follow my work where it leads me which pushes my perfectionist limits, but I can attest to the fact that the lessons I learn from my art translate outside of the studio. That is why I find my work to be self-rewarding, but it is an added bonus to have the privilege of sharing my work. I hope you open your minds to grapple with each piece at your own pace within your own capacity.

CAMERON WRIGHT I am NOT a Triangle For as long as I can remember I always enjoyed the arts, wether it be visual, musical, or performing. This year I got a chance to take ceramics and advanced ceramics even though normally our schedule doesn’t allow it. I enjoy creating pieces on the wheel, which I didn’t plan to originally. The best part about making just under two dozen ceramic pieces across 3 types of clay is being able to experiment with the fire temperature, method, and glazes. As for my piece entitled “I Am Not A Triangle”, the goal with the teapot itself was to use a tetrahedron shape for its basis and confuse the viewer who might not know what the shape is.
