Kindergarten - Extreme Weather While studying extreme weather, we presented kindergarteners with a challenge. Each student had to choose a severe weather, identify which element caused the extreme condition, and then design and build an object that would protect them. Students designed a blueprint of their object. Then they built the object out of recycled materials independently. When testing the invention, children had to explain how it would protect them.

Kindergarteners also explored different weather tools and learned that an anemometer measures the speed of wind. Students made their own anemometers out of straws and paper cups, then went outside to test them out.

Here is the work of the architects and engineers in the classroom!

Grade 3 Opinion Writing and Narrative Lugano

By Angelica Della Foglia You need to go to Lugano! It is in Europe, in a small country called Switzerland. They speak German, French, and Italian. It is a great place to go. First, there are a lot of beautiful lakes. Another example is that the lakes have a lot of beautiful colors. In the lakes there are animals and you can feed them. There are beautiful trees and mountains surrounding the lakes.

Dubai

By Anna Kandel If you want to go on a fantastic vacation, you must go to Dubai. Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates. People there speak Arabic. Here is one reason why you should go to Dubai. In Dubai there are great shows. One of them is the Singing Fountains. It is a show with fountains that have different colors lights shining on them.

Source: https://www.tripadvisor.com

In addition, there is a beautiful fountain that is so big and at night it lights up. Another example is that at night, when there are fireworks, the fountain looks like it is lighting up. In Lugano you can do many things, like going to shops, going to the lake, or going for a walk where you are surrounded by flowers and people. You can go to restaurants and see what is for lunch or dessert, or dinner. You can go to the park with your children or you can go running. There are a lot of things that you can do in Lugano. Finally, here is my story; one day I went on a boat in the large Lake Lugano. When we arrived in the middle of the lake it was so beautiful. The water was all blue and you could smell the air. The sky was blue and when I arrived home I was so tired that I could sleep for a day. So I went to sleep!

Also in Dubai the buildings look like they are from another planet. They have really cool shapes like half triangle and half oval. In Dubai there is the best hotel in the world and the tallest building in the world! In the tallest building in the world there are 163 floors, the highest restaurant in the world (on the 122nd floor), the world’s highest nightclub (on the 144th floor) and the world’s longest elevator.

Source: https://www.timeoutdubai.com

In Dubai there is also the most powerful fountain in the world Of course it is really beautiful in Dubai. In the morning you will see the sparkling ocean. At night you will see the different lights everywhere, and buildings with lights on them. There are great aqua parks and aquariums. Kids will love Dubai, because they will go to aqua parks or swim with the dolphins. That is all really cool, believe me. So families, here is why you should go to Dubai and why Dubai is such a fantastic vacation. Source: https://www.luganoregion.com

On the Way to Sardinia

The Monster Problem

I whispered to myself, “Xlprlapra.” My back withered, that’s why I said that. I was inside the airport lounge and the reason why my back ached is because it was piled with items and food. When everyone decided to go to the bathroom, it was my chance to grab another snack from the counter. After that we headed towards the plane. Then came the moment of triumph. Stepping inside the plane, I stepped on the first step and felt a tingle in my spine. At that moment I thought, “It’s gonna be a long flight.” I took a seat and plugged the headphones in then I put them on. After that I took a book from my backpack and started to read. A few minutes later I felt a tingle then a noise. Then the noise grew louder and LOUDER! When finally I understood that the plane was starting. I held tight to my book when we took off. A smile started to appear on my face. “Let’s do this!” Immediately my eyes zoomed right down to the papers of the book. Still looking at the book I lowered my hand down into my backpack I grabbed a snack and began to eat (I was still looking at the book.) The book was great! I laughed here and there. I already finished all my snacks and we were close to the airport until I heard my dad saying, “We are supposed to go there but on the map it shows over there.” And he pointed to an abandoned small runway. Immediately I held my hands together and started to pray. In my mind I thought, “AAAAGHHH WE’RE HAVING FUNCTIONING PROBLEMS!” Which would’ve sounded incredibly loud if you were in my mind. Then I went back on praying. “Please don’t die. Pleeeaaase don’t die. PLEEEAAAASE DON’T DIE!” I whispered with my hands glued together. Then we landed a sigh of relief flew out my mouth, “We’re safe!” I panted. “UUMMMPH.” I groaned lowly when I left the plane. Then we entered the airport. I saw a strange machine. It was stuck to the floor and it looked boring until… I figured out how to hack it! I drew a cat on the screen. My sister was standing next to me. She was looking. When I finished me and my sister ran away giggling. Our boat captain arrived with his car. I jumped inside and asked my mom, “How long does it take to drive to the harbor?” Then mom said, “Only ten minutes!”

We tiptoed down the steps. I was not scared because my friends were behind me. I was at school. Earlier at lunch, my friends went to the bathroom. When they came back, they told us there was a monster in the bathroom! We got scared. We went to quiet time and did what we wanted to do as long as it was quiet. Afterward we stayed in our class because that was our Italian class. After Italian I asked the teacher if I could go to the bathroom. And she responded, “Yes.” So me and my friends tiptoed down the steps and we walked slowly to the girls bathroom. After, when we were behind the door, my friends were a little bit scared. But I was not because my friends were behind me. Once we arrived we realized there was nothing. So the boys went to check in the boys bathroom. But there was nothing. So we tiptoed back up the steps and went to the girls and asked, “Did you lie to us?” And the girls said, “No!” But we responded, “Yes, you lied to us. Because we went to see in the girls’ bathroom and there was nothing and we went to see in the boys’ bathroom too but there was nothing. So that means you lied to us.” Later the girls said, “Ok yes we lied to you but we promise we won’t lie to you again.” And so we said, “Ok,” but we still completed the mission and had a great time finding the mystery in the bathroom.

“Yes!” I cheered. When we arrived at the boat I jumped out the car and kicked my shoes off and stopped by the entrance. And whispered to myself, “I’m in Sardinia I’m spending my time on a boat. Can this get any better?” A smile started to spread across my face. ”YES,” I said cheerfully.

Grade 4 Personal Essays

Sand painting by Daria Solonchak, Grade 3

My Mom is the Best Mom By Emma Puckett

I have found that a lot of people love their moms. A lot of people think their mom is the best, but I think my mom is the one of the very best moms. She is the best mom because she is smart, hardworking and kind. The first reason of why my mom is the best is because she is smart. She is smart because she made a pumpkin pie and where we live that is a little difficult. But she managed to make a great pumpkin pie. It was so delicious. She also calms me down because sometimes I panic and she always calms me down. One day we were going on a trip to Scotland and she planned the whole trip. But what made it harder there was another family going with us. That family had four other people in it. That is a lot of people, eight people in total. So she sat in front of her computer and started making reservations. We had so much fun. I can definitely say that my mom is as smart as a calculator. Another reason why my mom is the best is because she is hardworking. For example, my mom cooks dinner every night. That is seven times a week! Sometimes we complain about the food but she still makes dinner every night. My mom also goes grocery shopping and my brother and me are growing and my dad eats a lot of food so that is a lot of food to get. One time me my brother and my mom all went to Zurich. She packed all of our clothes and jackets. She did a great job packing. My mom is as hardworking as a beaver. The last reason why my mom is the best is because she is kind. For example, sometimes my mom wakes me up in her pjs and fixes me breakfast in her PJs. I mean come on guys that are pretty nice. Every day my mom wakes me up and fixes me breakfast so I am not late for school. One time she helped me with my homework all dinner when she could have been talking to my dad about grown up stuff. She explained to me and gave me examples. Then I understood. My mom is as kind as a mama bear to her cubs and I mean it. I have realized that moms are very important. A lot of moms work all day at the house or at an office. I think moms are very important and I cannot wait to be a mom. I hope that I will be as good as my mom. These are some of the reasons why my mom is the best mom.

Sand painting by Viktoriia Nesterenko, Grade 3

My Mom is the Best By Wesley Soh Some people think that their mom is the best but I’ve come to an end that my mom is the best. She is the best because she’s very kind, she’s very good at hiking and she’s a very good cook. One reason that my mom is the best is that she is kind. For example, she helps me with math, Chinese, and finding things. Another example that my mom is kind is that she knows what I want for my birthday or Christmas. For example, when it was Friday a few days before my birthday, and she knew I loved Ping-Pong and I wanted to be good at Ping-Pong. So my mom immediately knew what I wanted, so my mom got me a good racket. I was honestly very thankful for the racket. She is like a mom that can do anything. Once, when I was just sitting in the couch watching my brother play Xbox, my brother asked me if I want to play and I nodded. While we were playing Xbox, my brother bullied me. So I went outside to sit down in the garden. My mom saw me sitting in the garden and so, she quickly went outside to buy me an anti-stress. When she came back, she sat with me and let me cool down. She also lets me play when she is sleeping. Another reason why my mom is the best is because she is very good at hiking. For example, she can hike for a long time, hikes almost every time and she is very active for hiking. Once, when my family went hiking, while we were hiking we were so tired of hiking that we didn’t want to hike anymore. The moment we looked forward, my mom was far away that we were surprised! She loves hiking and she hikes for 1-2 hours of hiking, can’t you believe that! She goes out with her friends. She is like an explorer. My last reason is that she is a very good cook. For example, she can cook very good food simple food and transform it into good food. She knows how to make food nicer. She is a smart chef. One time, when it was dark outside we were just relaxing. After about 30 min we’re starving, my mum realized that she needed to cook so, she just cooked pork ribs that took 30 minutes. She also knows what I want to eat even if I don’t tell her, she can cook new food without a recipe and knows which recipe is delicious by looking at the recipe photo. I realize that parents can do anything for you to make your life happy as always. Parents can be like your brothers, sisters, friends, anything. So my mom is the best because, she’s kind, she’s very good at hiking and she’s a very good cook.

Siblings are Extraordinary By Amalia Zampa

Have you ever had a lot of siblings? Well I do, I have six siblings. Having siblings is extraordinary because they are funny, they are helpful and most of all having siblings is extraordinary because you are never lonely. Many people don’t realize how nice it is to have siblings. Neither did I. When I thought of these reasons while I was writing this essay, my opinion changed. Now I think having siblings is extraordinary. If you want to know more about why I’m telling you that having siblings is extraordinary, read the whole entire essay to know more about this thesis statement I’m sure you can’t wait to read the reasons and evidence I wrote for my essay.

Having siblings is extraordinary because they are funny. One example that shows that having siblings is funny is at dinner on Sunday we always laugh a lot because it’s the day that my siblings and me are together. I always laugh a lot because they always say a lot of funny stories. The stories can be about school. Sometimes my sister says something and I say a joke for it, and my sibling doesn’t understand it so we all start laughing. My siblings also makes me laugh when we are not at the dinner table, but most of all it’s when we are at the dinner table that they make me laugh. My siblings are funny when they make me laugh. My siblings are funny when they tell funny stories, or when they do funny things. For example, when all my siblings and me were at the dinner table and at a certain point my sister had to put oil on her salad but she was tired so instead of putting it on the salad she was about to put it in her cup when my other sister said, ”What are you doing?” So then my sister put it on her salad. Having siblings is extraordinary because they do a lot of funny things, they say funny things, and do funny faces . Having siblings is extraordinary because they are helpful. When I arrive at home I always do piano or homework. But I also do homework after dinner. Normally I do my homework by myself. But it can happen that I don’t know something, for example in Italian and my nanny doesn’t know Italian {but she is learning} so I can ask my siblings, and they help me. When I had to write a lot of something in Italian I would ask my siblings if there wasn’t my mom. But if there was my mom then I would do it with my mom. But that doesn’t happen very often now. Having siblings is helpful because they give you clues for homework. Having siblings is helpful because they help me when you have to do something such as a test. And at last having siblings is helpful when my mom is not at my home and I can ask my siblings for help. That is why having siblings is nice. They can help you.

Having siblings is extraordinary because you are never lonely. I like having siblings. For example one time when my two

sisters were away with my mom and my dad was in Washington, I was about to be lonely but fortunately there was my little sister, because if she wasn’t at home I would be so lonely, and that wouldn’t be so nice. Having siblings is not lonely because there is always someone to play with on vacation. For example your siblings can play with you‍. Having siblings is not lonely because I have six siblings. Having siblings is not lonely. That is why having siblings is nice. You are never lonely. After all these reasons about siblings do you think having siblings is extraordinary and the best thing evvvvvvvver? Now do you understand why I’m telling you that having siblings is extraordinary? With siblings you can laugh a lot, they are helpful and most of all you are never lonely. I think that if you had siblings you would love it and your family would be soooooo cool! But before, if you will one day have siblings I’m telling you, you will have a super funny family, your siblings will always help you when you need help to do your homework your other stuff, and then your siblings will never leave you alone they will always be there with you to be funny, to help you or to never leave you lonely!

Grade 5 Memoirs The Art of Death

By Luca Habisreutinger “Nooooooooooooo!” I screamed. I lost again. I was exhausted. I just lost the play fight against my uncle. After this rumble, mom, uncle, and I were waiting around the wooden table in the cozy living room for aunt to bring the delicious dinner. Finally, she arrived with mashed potatoes and meatballs. It tasted outstanding. For dessert, we ate something my aunt was famous for, chocolate cake! While mom and I left the mountain farm, I waved out of the car window as long as I could see uncle and aunt.

“Come on, get out of here!” I suddenly heard my grandma’s voice. All of a sudden, I remembered that everything I was dreaming was back at then, when life was still perfect. But now, everything has changed! Again, I heard grandma’s voice: “You are going to be late for training!” So, I shouldered my heavy ice hockey bag and hurried to the dressing room. At practice, I never really concentrated. Not at all! A billion of times, my teammates had to call me back to reality.

After practice, I rushed out of the dressing room at the rink. My grandma was already waiting for me. She had a very worried look on her face. As we strided out of the rink, grandma did not even say hello to me, she just walked straight to the black car where the sun was shining on. As we drove on the highway, I finally stuttered how my uncle was doing? “I don’t know if you want to know, call mom!” she mumbled with fear in her voice. All scared, I called mom. Would this be the horrible moment where she tells me that my uncle is dead? But before I could think further, I heard mom’s voice. In a hurry, I asked how uncle was doing? At first, I did not hear an answer, I just heard something that sounded like a sniff. “Luca,” mom whispered, “Very sadly, your uncle has passed away!” “Does that mean he is dead?” I shouted. My body squeezed and started to tremble. The last word I heard from mom was a weak: “Yes!” “WHAAAAAAT, NOOOOOOOOO! It can’t be true!” I cried completely tense from the top of the head to the end of the little toe. My eyes became wet and they filled up like a pool. I tried not to remember all the nice things I have done with him, like riding the tractor. I used to sit on his lap and ask him tons of questions about all the buttons and handles in the tractors cockpit. From time to time, we attended some sport events and expositions. He always bought us a pizza and himself a beer, I just took a Coke. At these common trips, we sat side by side and enjoyed simply being together. I just tried to kick him out of my mind. But I could not!

10 days after my uncle passed away, my aunt, grandma, mom, and my uncle’s sisters and brothers gathered in grandma’s living room around a computer looking at pictures of flowers for the upcoming funeral. While the adults talked like a waterfall, I was kind of playing with some old, broken toys and kind of thinking

about my uncle. I remembered, once we were riding the rattling tractor plowing the snow. I got to steer my favorite tractor which I adored. I also remembered when my uncle and my aunt were watching an ice hockey game with us. They both did not know a lot about hockey so my mom and I had to explain every single rule to them. I was knotted in the memories like a tangle of a 1009 strings that mom had to call me five times for lunch.

A few days later, it was the day. The day that I hoped would never come. While my aunt, mom, dad, and I entered the church, the organ played a heartbroken melody. The funeral started with my uncle’s favourite song. When I saw the coffin with my uncle’s body in it, my eyes started to flow like a river. During the funeral we cried more than we listened to the minister. To see my aunt being soooooooo sad, broke my heart. Therefore, I gave her my number one teddy bear, hoping, that this would help. Before my uncle died, I did not really know what death meant. For example on the radio, I heard that about a 100 people died in an accident, for me such news did not have a big meaning back then. But after my uncle’s death, I realized that he was gone. Gone forever! I could not understand that he’s never going to come back! Further, I realized that all these people dying for different reasons leave families behind and all those families are missing a person in their daily life. My mom tried to explain that death is something normal. Something natural! At first, I could not really understand my mom. But as time passed, I realized that I cannot change anything. Life and death are connected like day and night. However, I always can lock back to my wonderful memories of my uncle, memories nobody can take from me! They stay forever!

By Ana Ribeiro Moritz Cavalcanti

Friendship is Complicated By: Romeo Zanarini I spend a lot of time with my family. They are important but friends are also important. I mean who are you supposed to talk to? When I’m with my friends we will usually talk about games or books, but sometimes we talk about each other. Most of the time friends are supposed to help each other and take care of each other. But sometimes there can be conflicts. For example, siding. Siding is when there is a conflict between two friends and you have to choose who you are going to stay friends with. It happens when your close friend takes in the information he or she might tell that piece to another friend of yours that is an enemy to the other. After that they could both trade insults and before you know it one of your insults are being shipped out of their mouth. Now you have to take sides, that’s the worst part only because you’re afraid who you might lose. Siding just ends up with everyone feeling hurt.

Before ski week, I had a problem with siding at school. At morning recess on the playground, I was talking to John (names changed for protection) about Mike. John whispered into my ear, “Don’t you hate how Mike is always bragging and boasting about how he has a lot of money? He is always talking about all the cars and boats he has.” “Yeah. I know, right. I don’t think having all that stuff is important.” I whispered back. Suddenly the bell rings and we all race back to the classroom. Later that day at lunch, John and I begin talking about Mike again. John said, “Did you hear him bragging about his yacht in class? He is so stupid.” I was thinking, I don’t want to call Mike stupid. But I was worried that John would think I was not siding with him. I wanted to agree with him because I thought it would keep our friendship stable. So I went ahead and said, “Yeah.” When I turned around I saw Mike sitting right next to us at our table. He started talking about the video games he plays at home and how good he at them. I was thinking, oh my gosh, this is so tiring. Then John blurted out that I called him stupid. I am in shock but I remain silent. Mike sits up and says, “ I don’t sit with stupid people, I am leaving.” He storms away to the his other group of friends. I wanted to say to John, YOU were the one that called Mike stupid, and I was just agreeing. But instead, I kept my mouth shut to not cause another problem and then have two enemies. This is why I hate siding.

By Ginevra Cribari By Kyla Bodnar

Friends are very important to your life but at times friendships are complicated. It is still difficult for me to know what to do when siding happens. I wish that we could all stay together. It is okay to get annoyed by others it is natural but it’s not good to take sides. Friendships can be hard but it always pays off.

Classe 5a - Testi Informativi e Persuasivi Il Bar Mitzvah

Se è ingerito devi immediatamente andare all’ospedale. Source: https://www.usatoday.com

Tallinn la città da visitare Di Marco Fabio Preatoni

Alp Transit San Gottardo Di Anna Compagnino

Source: https://www.visittallinn.ee

Source: https://www.unusualplaces.org

An Extraordinary City By Gilda Danisi, Grade 4

What many people need to know is that Florence is an extraordinary city. Do you want to know more about Florence? I am telling you that Florence is an extraordinary city. Florence is an extraordinary city because it is healthy, because you can learn many new things and because people are all kind and funny. Sometimes in life you think of something in a way, but then you change your mind about it. First I didn’t think that Florence was an extraordinary city, but while I was writing this essay my mind was realizing and changing opinion.

Source: https://www.telegraph.co.uk

Florence is an extraordinary city, because it’s a healthy city when you walk a lot. One example that shows this is: every day I wake up early with my brother and my mom to have a walk around the city and see new things. I walk a lot to go visit museums. I take photos of places that are really interesting by walking more. Then I also walk a lot more when I go to parks that I like very much, and I like the most going walking to buy souvenirs of some places in Florence that I want to remember. Another example that can show that Florence is a healthy city is that one day I woke up with my mom and my brother and we went walking on a bridge called Ponte Vecchio, we went walking for a long time. We passed a restaurant, we passed another restaurant, then we arrived at one of our favorite restaurants so we went inside, sat down and ate something good because I was really hungry. After we finished eating we started walking again we walked and walked all day long until it was night time, so we started walking home, we walked a lot before arriving home. Florence is an extraordinary city because it keeps you very active. Florence is an extraordinary city, because you can learn many new things when you go to museums. One example that can show this is: a beautiful sunny day we went to a museum called

Il museo degli Uffizi of Florence. I didn’t want to go to a museum but I knew I would have learned a billion of things and a lot of things about some artists that I don’t know. When I entered the museum I immediately took my phone and took a photo of each statue, I stood in front of each statue to read the description of the statue, who made it and who is the statue representing. Slowly, slowly I was getting more interested and I was learning many new things one after another. Also my mom was teaching me some new things, she also knows a lot of art especially if it’s about Florence; she loves Forence! I was impressed of all the paintings I’d just saw, what I was also impressed about is that I’d learned so much interesting stuff. Florence is an extraordinary city because it can teach you so many new things that at first you didn’t know. Florence is an extraordinary city because people are all kind and funny when they tell you jokes or the taxi drivers are kind by opening you the door to enter or get out of the taxi. One of the examples that can show this is: I like going to Florence because I know people are kind to me and make me laugh. People are always ready to make you laugh. In restaurants the owners of the restaurant, if we have a dog they let him enter with no problems, they love dogs. In restaurants if you order and in the plate there is something you don’t like or you can’t eat you just ask the waiters to not put that kind of food in your plate and they do it without complaining because they are kind. I like that people in Florence are all kind and funny because when someone is not kind with me I don’t feel good and when a person is not funny I get bored. Florence is an extraordinary city because people are all kind and funny. This is important because people need to know that Florence is an extraordinary city, don’t you think? Florence is a healthy city because it’s a city that keeps you very active, you can learn many new things every day and because people are all kind and funny they are always ready to make you laugh or be gentle with you. I realize that when I am in Florence I feel amazing! Florence is an extraordinary city it’s true. Because this is true, isn’t it also true that also a lot of other cities are extraordinary like Florence? The next time you go to Florence remember about this essay that you read and remember that Florence is an extraordinary city.

Corvallis

Books

Corvallis is a great place to live. It’s great because there’s lots of fun activities for kids and adults, everyone is nice to everyone else, and it’s surrounded by nature. What people need to know is that even though Corvallis is so little, you can do as many activities as you can do in Los Angeles. Sometimes in life you need to choose the perfect place to live, maybe Corvallis could be one of them. Corvallis is a great place to live. One reason is that there are lots of fun activities for kids and adults. One day, I was having lots of fun at the river with my friends. I wanted to splash into the water because going to the river was one of my favorite activities. We swam down the river. After a while we saw a very big tree. You could jump off the tree. One of our friends wanted to jump off the huge tree. He climbed on the tree branch. Then he jumped off the tree and landed right in the water with a big splash. After we all swam to the other side of the river where we saw a tree that fell on the water. So I said, “We can jump off that tree.” I did half a flip and others dived. And there was still one thing to do. We went way to the other side of the river with a little boat. After going too far we went down and left the river. Going to the river was one of my favorite activities in Corvallis. You also can go to the public swimming pool, ride bikes with friends, or go to the Corvallis fair. There are lots of fun activities for kids and adults. Corvallis is a great place to live. Another reason is because everyone is nice to everyone else. Everyone is nice when they invite you for a picnic, when they share turns on the swings and when they say hi to you if you walk by. Or at the store if you’re just missing two quarters they just let you not pay the two quarters. Also our neighbor Janice was very nice because sometimes she gave us snacks. One summer day Sonia, Noel, Evan and Amelia invited us to go with them to the coast of Oregon. It was very nice of them to invite us to the coast.

Many people don’t realize that books can be really helpful, but I think that they are helpful. I think that books are helpful because you can learn a lot of facts from nonfiction books, you can learn a lesson that can help you in your life and if you are a writer you could collect some ideas from other books. Also some kids ask why do you need to read almost every night? If you want to know why I think that books are helpful read this essay! Books are helpful because in nonfiction books or in reference books you can learn a lot of things. For example, when you need to search about an animal (or something) you could go to a library and search some facts or information about what you are searching. One rainy day I entered the local library, there were not a lot of people. I was searching about an insect that I found on the street while I was walking from my friend’s house. There were a lot of books, I couldn’t find a nonfiction book about insects….. DING! I got a idea. I could ask the librarian. After I asked her, we walked to the middle of the library, I felt like I was in a labyrinth of books! Finally the librarian found a nonfiction book. After ten minutes I found what kind of insect it was. I think that nonfiction books are like magic facts! That’s a reason why I think books are helpful. If you are a writer you can collect some ideas from other books to make your writing more interesting. For example, if you don’t have any ideas of what to write about or if you need more details, you could get some ideas from other books. That would help. One time in third grade we finished our fiction stories and they were so good that our teacher invited Sharon Creech to see our work! So when she came in first she sat on a big chair and we all sat in front of her to ask her some questions. After five questions a girl asked her “What do you do when you don’t have any ideas of what to write?” That’s when I heard something that now I am writing about. SHE SAID THAT SHE COLLECTS IDEAS FROM OTHER BOOKS!!! I still remember that it is really interesting. That’s an example how you can get some ideas from other books if you don’t have more ideas of what to write. The last reason that books are helpful is that you can learn a lesson that can be really helpful in your life. For instance, when you get bullied you can find a book that talks about a girl or a boy that gets bullied so you can use the strategy that the girl or boy is doing in the story. Hopefully it’s going to work. Or in the book, The Rabbit and Hare the lesson was not how fast you are that matters, it is how intelligent you are. One time I read a book but the lesson was a little bit strange and it didn’t really help me. Because the lesson was not to be scared of something but try not to be too scared. So as you see in some books the lesson makes sense and in some not. That’s a reason why books are helpful. Books are helpful it is true. But I also realized that because this is true, isn’t it also true that if we didn’t have books we wouldn’t know facts that can go on and on in the history? We wouldn’t even know how people lived in the past. We wouldn’t know which materials they used or of what there houses were made of. Also if we didn’t have books we wouldn’t know some really funny facts! So that’s my opinions why books can be helpful!

Most of all Corvallis is a great place to live because it’s surrounded by nature. I love Corvallis’ nature because with nature you can climb trees, you can swim in the river, you can go camping, you can hike, you can climb on rocks, or you can swim in the ocean. I remember when we were camping at the side of the forest and we were playing hide and go seek. We made a little cave of rocks and hid very quietly. The girls never found us. After a while we finally escaped and snuck back to the campsite. Camping in the beautiful forest was very fun. It’s true that Corvallis is a great place to live. There are lots of fun activities, everyone is nice to everyone else, and its surrounded by nature. I know if you go one time to Corvallis you’ll truly love it.

Dinosaurs

By Gabriel Mejia Defaut, Grade 3 Long, long ago, 65 million years ago, dinosaurs roamed the earth. Dinosaurs were the biggest lizards. And today you’ll learn about them. I hope you enjoy my story and learn about dinosaurs.

Grade 4 Art Tapestries from the Middle Ages Legendary creatures inspired by medieval artwork

Who Were the Dinosaurs? Dinosaurs are huge ancient reptiles that roamed earth before us, the human race. Some were big, some small, some scary and mean, some nice and friendly. Some eat plants, some meat, some fish. Then there are the birds which are not dinosaurs nor the ones that live in the water.

By Gaia Giuliani

Deadliest Meat Eater Which in this case is the Spinosaur. It is the biggest meat eater and eats fish or meat. It has a crocodile sort of snout. And has a huge sail on his back. He has a cousin called the Byronx. Just take off the sail and it’s a Byronx! The End of the Dinosaurs This is what we think. An asteroid hit what is now called Mexico and caused an explosion around the earth and killed all the dinosaurs. And you can find a crater in Mexico too!

Courage

By Delaney M. McKee, Grade 5 Courage. It means to be brave and you need courage to do scary things, to face your fears. When you take chances and challenge yourself you can live life to the fullest. I faced my fears all because of a dare, and without that dare I never would have pushed myself to try something new and live my life to the fullest. “I dare you to jump off the Val Versasca boulder into the freezing cold water!” dared Alexander. “WHAT!? That’s so high! No way!” I replied. I had seen people jump off this rock every year as it’s a tradition at TASIS but I never had the guts to do it. “Too bad I dared you!” repeated Alex. “Fine!” I moaned just to keep him quiet, but when I looked at the boulder I got fear goosebumps. Do I have the courage? I slowly climbed up the rock, all I had to climb on were thin cut-outs. My heart was racing and my knees were shaking. The sky was a beautiful bright blue that sunny Wednesday of August, it was warm with a nice breeze. I could smell the clear, fresh, cold water. When I got to the top I thought it would be one of those things that don’t look as high or not as scary once your at the top...(Nope, I was wrong). When I reached the top I started to tremble in fear as I watched the people ahead jump off the 20m boulder doing crazy flips and yelling. “Good luck!” wished Alex shouting from the water. I stood still and watched others jump off the giant boulder. Every time I heard the people slap against the water, I became even more afraid to jump. Finally it was my turn. I leaned over the edge, I could see: three GoPros, five fancy watches and two bathing suit bottoms. I froze in fear. “Go Laney!” Shouted Alex. More than 100 people shouted, “THREE! TWO! ONE! GO!!” I took a leap of faith (literally). Everything went silent, I was falling in fear when I had a moment of realization, what was I doing? I couldn’t believe that I was actually doing this. It felt like I was falling in slow motion. I looked down only to see the water getting closer. When my toes hit the water I could hear everyone clapping and cheering. The next thing I knew I was automatically swimming back to shore in the deep, freezing and clear water. I started to think about what I had just done, it felt good to face my fears, I felt the courage flowing through my veins. When I reached the shore my mom told me I was extremely brave and that my lips were amethyst purple (It always happens when I’m cold, ask Chloe). After that I jumped off the sandy boulder about five more times, each time I became less and less afraid to do it. From jumping off boulders to smaller dares, you should face your fears so you can live life to the fullest. Next time your in a scary situation think of the song lyrics “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Because if you face your fears you won’t be afraid of it anymore. (Unless you die)

Compresa me.

Fine!!

Eravamo tutti in camera...
