26. PREPARING THE MAGISTRAL PERORAL AND OPHTHALMIC PREPARATIONS FROM THE READY-MADE PHARMACEUTICAL FORMS

Abstract The individual therapy and the impossibility to find a medication with certain specifics in the market (according to the pharmaceutical form, dosage-individual therapeutic concentration, etc) has increased the need for the magisterial preparations to take an important place in the pharmaceutical practice, especially in Kosovo having in regard that there are many preparations are missing due to the registration, for which the big companies have no gain to register them. The magisterial preparations in Kosovo have been prepared in a small number since long time ago, but recently their number has started to increase due to the therapeutic individualization and due to the lack of forms and certain doses in the market. . Demands for individual treatment have increased, especially in pediatrics and with elderly people, due to the specific forms and dosage or problems with swallowing, problems with the stomach, patients that are fed with tubes, etc. for the preparation of this preparation it is required a good knowledge by the specialist-physician who prescribes and the pharmacist who prepares it. Such a practice is applied in many European countries, when there is no adequate dosages and forms for individual therapy.
In Kosovo, there are beliefs that magisterial preparations cannot be done and cannot be found in the market. Lately, the interest in adjusting the dosage and the desired form of the drug has started to increase. This has made it possible to start with such preparations. The preparation is possible by using a form and concentration, which is in the market and whose form and concentration is adjusted according to the physician’s requirement for an individual therapy. Such forms that could be prepared are elixirs, solutions, suspensions and syrups for oral use, as well as jellies and solutions for eyes. Preparation and adjustment of these preparations is done by preparing liquid forms out of tablets, by preparing solutions and jellies for eyes out of injections etc. Nowadays there are over 100 monographs about magisterial preparations, which are prepared by the ready-made forms and where has been confirmed their stability, starting from acetazolamide till verapamil (tablets, capsules, etc., are modified into desired forms and concentrations) The aim of this presentation is getting familiar with practical possibilities of the magisterial preparations out of pharmaceutical ready-made desired forms and dosages. 74
