When we started out in the Angus seedstock business more than twenty years ago, we sold our bulls off the farm by private treaty. Wanting to gain some exposure, we started consigning a few head to the local Alameda Bull Sale. A few short years later, we were invited into the successful Black Harvest sale group where we marketed females and bulls for eleven years. With the conclusion of the 2012 bull sale, we closed the chapter on our Black Harvest venture and decided to return home to sell our bulls. The private treaty format is a more comfortable fit as it is a low stress situation for buyer, seller and bulls. Eliminating time constraints that sale days bring, we feel we can better serve our customers in a more relaxed atmosphere. With the technology we now have available to us (internet, online bidding) we can offer our bulls private treaty. Only now, everyone has equal opportunity for “first pick“. Here is how it works...
Private Treaty... polished
EDJE technologies is an online company who similar to ebay, is a venue where one can list products for sale and have them conduct the auction; real time, via the internet. Our private treaty bidding opens noon Wednesday March 20, 2013 cst and closes 6:00 pm Friday March 22, 2013 cst. Our bulls are offered just like any other private treaty offering, every bull will be priced with a start bid. If no other competing bid is on the bull, you own him for that start bid. Here is the twist. First come first serve? Not anymore. If more than one party is interested in a particular bull, bidding will then commence between the two or more parties interested. Sale close out (Friday March 22 6:00 pm cst) is the time bids start closing on the sale lots. Lot 1 closes first, then lot 2 and so on, until all lots close. This is private treaty, only polished as everyone has equal opportunity to own the bull they desire. We don’t anticipate all the bulls to be sold with the on line bidding. We’re simply looking to give everyone an even playing field at owning the bulls they want.
“But I don’t use a computer”
No problem. We can get you set up on line with the bidding company, over the phone or while you stop to look over the bulls. It’s a simple, painless procedure that only takes a few minutes.
“But I can’t sit around on the computer all day to watch my bids”
No problem. Just set it and forget it. The real neat thing about technology is that we can make it work for us. Let the computer bid for you by using the ‘proxy’ or ‘max bid’ feature. When you get entered into the bidding system, simply choose the maximum amount you are willing to spend on the lot(s) and enter that amount. The computer will bid for you any time you are out bid. Completely discrete, only you and the computer are aware of what your ‘max’ bid is. We pay the bidding company an up front flat fee for hosting our on line sale, so there isn’t any incentive for them to disclose any information. We’ve bought cattle this way in the past and have yet to spend what our limit was. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of sale are cash or cheque, payable at sale location. The purchaser has thirty days from time of sale to make full payment. If full payment has not been made within thirty days of sale, the would be purchaser looses ownership rights of animal. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder. In cases of dispute GBT Angus’ decision will be final. Current exchange rates apply. All monies are in Canadian funds. Sight Unseen: Call us in advance of the sale to discuss your requirements. We have sold bulls this way in the past and have met with favourable review. Satisfaction guaranteed. Certificate of Registration: Unless otherwise stated, each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Angus Association. This certificate shall be transferred to new owner following full payment of said animal(s). Health: All animals offered have met necessary health requirements. Guarantee: Each animal becomes the purchasers risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals offered will be sold under the terms and guarantee of the Canadian Angus Association. Liabilities: All persons visiting GBT Angus does so at their own risk. Seller, facility owner, land owner assume no liability, legal or otherwise for any accidents that occur. Delivery: Free delivery up to 500km thereafter cost shared. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as it is sold. Internet, Phone, Mail, Wire Bids: Bidders may bid through the online bidding service, phone, mail, fax or text their bids. If not using the online bidding service, bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Insurance: An agent will be available as per listed in the sales catalogue. About Our Program... Our breeding philosophy is rather quite simple. Create a product that is adapted to its environment and doesn’t need artificial props to support it. The basics of beef breeding stock are to reproduce a quality protein source. As producers, it is beneficial to create this in a manner that is economically sustainable. Maximizing longevity should be and is the pinnacle of what all else hinges from. Longevity is function and fertility, without function and fertility, there is no longevity. Longevity is maternal intelligence, and calf vigour. Longevity is not maximum but rather optimal milk, growth and carcass production. Our cows calve and nurse unassisted, raise their calves without creep and breed back year after year in a short breeding season. If they default on any one of these parameters, they are removed from the herd. Selecting cattle in this manner ensures resulting progeny are genetically suited for our environment.
The Bull Offering...
Developing our bulls, health takes top priority. They have never been rushed or pushed for excessive gain and are offered plenty of room to rumble with either 40 or 60 acre lots to further condition them. Developed this way, they are hard muscled and ready to work. Managing them in this way maximizes longevity and efficiency, in turn creating a more profitable investment for our customers. These bulls represent a cow herd ruthlessly culled for sustainable production and adapted for their environment. Like the cows they come from, these bulls are sorted on an ongoing basis. No, not every calf born a bull stays a bull. Beyond our culling measures in the cow herd, these bulls are sorted for birth weight, vigour, feet, disposition, type and do- ability through all four phases of gain (pre wean, post wean, summer grazing and long yearling). We don’t sort poor doers out and feed them separately or market them as “heifer bulls”; we can em. Just like the calves you market, these boys are in there working cloths. Feet and hair have never been trimmed. Some prefer to turn a blind eye in there pursuit of single trait selection but around here, bad bags and bad feet are trimmed on the hook.
