This has been a very challenging year in this part of the world with a very dry summer and so many fires and heavy smoke. Having been through that first hand in 2003, losing many cows and huge areas of range, it was a bitter reminder of what mother nature can do. Having teenage kids doesn’t always create more spare time and ours are certainly busy. Leanna is enjoying her first year of Agriculture Management at Olds College in Alberta. I am coaching Thompson’s basketball team again this year and he is certainly loving the game. As always, they pitch in whenever possible to give a hand. The bulls have done extremely well on the range this summer. Their health has been excellent and the predators have not had a significant impact. These bulls have developed in conditions that are similar to yours, rough country and mothers milk, their performance is a result of the cow not a creep feed bin. Feet and legs are extremely important to us as they have to be able to move long distances. We feed a high roughage total mixed ration that is designed to keep the bulls healthy. We focus on the females being trouble free; good udders, easy calving and sound. They need to produce a calf every year, no free rides, no exceptions. We have a great deal of pride in our cows and invest a large amount of time and money to source new herd sires. As usual we have put a lot of emphasis on carcass traits as we still have a viable meat program and these traits are important to us as I am sure they are to you. This is the strongest set of bulls that we have brought to town. The front end of the Red Angus bulls is right with the Simmental bulls on performance. This is the first time we have had three come off the range over 900 pounds and there is also a great set of heifer bulls. There are large sire groups in the red and black Simmentals as well for consistency in your program. It is a bright note that the cattle prices have remained very strong through the fall which in turn adds rewards to the business we all enjoy. It sure is great to see lots of $1500 calves go through the ring. We appreciate you taking the time to look through the catalogue and hope that you enjoy viewing a set of bulls that we are very proud of. See you all at the Lake, Ian, Anja and Family Mitchell Cattle Co. has invested in the health of their herd of cattle for many years through a comprehensive herd health strategy. Currently all breeding females and bulls receive an annual vaccination prior to the breeding season to protect against all the important reproductive viruses and bacteria including IBR, Type I and II BVD and Leptosprirosis. All calves are vaccinated at branding to provide protection against the important viruses and bacteria causing respiratory and clostridial diseases. Currently, calves receive a modified live vaccine against IBR, Type I and II BVD, BRSV, and PI3, as well as a modified live bacterin against shipping fever and a killed bacterin against Histophilus somnus, Blackleg and other clostridial diseases. At weaning all bull and heifer calves receive a booster with the same vaccines and bacterins used at branding. In late fall, all cows, bulls and weaned calves are treated with a topical endectocide to control internal and external parasites. As a further assurance of herd health, all MCC bulls in the sale have been tested and found negative for persistent infection of the BVD virus. All bulls in the sale have passed a thorough breeding soundness exam to evaluate scrotal size and shape, semen motility and morphology and structural soundness. Through my long standing veterinary relationship with Mitchell Cattle Co., I also know that you can rest assured that each bull is out of a sound, solid, productive cow. Ian and Anja rigorously select their herd for fertility, sound udders, correct feet and legs and temperament. These cows go to the mountain with their calf each year and come back in the fall for pregnancy testing. SPRING CREEK GOLDEN STANDARD MBJ 903A Muirheads TIME OUT 263B We tried to buy Gold Standard as a yearling and powered out on him, he was purchased by Black Sand for $22000. Fortunately for us they dispersed their cowherd that fall and we had another opportunity to own him, unfortunately for the same dollars but we are glad we did. We have had numerous calls from people who bought cows that were bred to him looking for semen. He was a tremendous breeder and moved like a cat. We have another super set of calves on the ground now but unfortunately lost Gold Standard to a freak spinal injury this summer.
Time Out is out of one of Muirhead’s favorite cows, they have since flushed her and have four more sons in their current sale. She has raised a previous herd sire that sold to LaBattes and Circle 7. Time Out was our choice of their bulls and the second high seller. We chose him as a calving ease sire to use on our black Simmental heifers as well as performance cows. He has calved fantastically well and we have his second set of calves on the ground now. He is long bodied, very sound and has a stride to admire, we used him on 55 females last spring. Time Out is in the top 5% for calving ease and top 10% for birth weight as well as having great carcass EPD’s.
DOUBLE G ZEPPLIN 21Z Red Top CHANCELLOR 71C Here is a bull that we had been hunting for, for a while. The high selling red bull out of a Saskatchewan sale. He has turned out to be Homozygous Polled and a heck of a breeder. He is so smooth and out of a great old cow. We are calving his daughters for the Third year now and they are turning out to be super productive attractive young cows.
We bought Chancellor as a calving ease sire to use on our red heifers. With an 88 lb. birth weight and weaning over 800 lbs. from a first calf heifer. He is incredibly easy keeping, in fact his nickname here is “Fatso”. He has huge testicles and is very thick and moderate. Purchased from Red Top Livestock he was their high seller. Chancellor has excellent EPD’s, he is top 2% for marbling and TI, top 10% for maternal calving ease and top 15% for maternal weaning and milk as well as very good in the other categories.

Purchased for his natural growth and power, Emblem weaned off his dam with no creep feed at 972 lbs. His dam has since entered Beechinor’s embryo program. 54B puts incredible tops on his calves and we are calving his daughters, are they ever sweet. Emblem is a very strong sound four year old bull.

Crowfoot is an impressive bull to say the least. I bought him based on carcass merits and the strength of his dam. He was #3 out of 108 bulls for rib eye size with good marbling. His dam, a black cow, was the lead off lot of Crowfoot’s dispersal and was the high selling pair out of 900 lots - quite a feat! He has explosive growth and has proved to throw some birth weight but we are yet to assist a calf out of him. His first daughters calved this spring, they have beautiful udders and will definitely make their mark here.
489 was a rare find. He is number one in the Red Angus breed for ribeye area and also at the top for calving ease, two things that often don’t come together. His actual ribeye measurement was over 17 inches at 12 months of age. He has a particularly short gestation and sure puts bright calves on the ground. It was unfortunate that he broke a hind leg as a yearling, we thought so much of him we nursed him through and he will breed another select group of cows and heifers this year. He is dark cherry red and sure puts a stamp on his calves, he has a maternal brother working as a herd sire in Saskatchewan.
RED LAZY MC Parker 158C 158C is another son of the famous Parker bull and is a half brother to 489. Two very different bulls, 158 is an absolute power bull. His calves have incredible performance and muscle expression. These sons rival the performance of most Simmentals. He is a true growth and carcass bull, also being in the top 1% for ribeye.

Bidding:
Each animal will sell to the highest bidder, the seller reserves the right to pass the bull.
Disputes:
Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.
Announcements:
All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.
Purchasers Risk:
Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. We strongly recommend insuring your purchase for full value.

All bulls will be covered in the yards by Hartford Insurance; insurance will be available for long term coverage.
Breeder’s Guarantee:
The animals in this sale are guaranteed per the breeder’s guarantee of the breed association they are registered with. In the unlikely event that a bull proves to be a non-breeder he will be replaced with a bull of equal value. Should this not be possible, an adjustment will be made to reflect the value of the bull in question or a credit will be issued towards a future purchase. At no time will we be responsible for any costs exceeding the original purchase price and no guarantee is made that semen from any bull will freeze. This guarantee will not cover any situation where the animal has been subjected to mismanagement or physical injury and we will not guarantee any animal that is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale. Insurance is available sale day and we strongly recommend that you take advantage of this service. We will do our utmost to work with you to ensure your satisfaction should any problems arise.
