Two days in Rome and Fiumicino

Julia Syrykh Photo Album Italy August 27-29 2021

About the author and the book My name is Julia Syrykh. I live and work in Germany as a graphic and web designer since 2020, relocated from Crimea, Ukraine. Philologist by education. I speak and write Ukrainian, Russian, English and a little bit German. Mother of two, thinker and writer, “Eat. Pray. Love” book and movie enjoyer. I love travelling very much. This is one of my passions. And wherever I go I always make a ton of pictures. So many that nobody could stand it if post all of them on my social media. This photobook I created with my warmest feelings to Italy. It was a short stay, just two days, but I believe not the only one in my life. You can see in this album not only hottest touristic spots of Rome, but also other places and little details, that show Italy like it is. Surprisingly, I needed almost one year to create this book. I did not want to rush with the creative process, but let the photos sit for a while, and then, while making the book, enjoyed the memories. Hope you will enjoy the photos too and get inspired.

Our first evening in Fiumicino just after arrival. The view from the hotel Tiber. → Via della Torre Clementina, 276, 00054 Fiumicino RM, Italy

Morning in the hotel

Exploring Fiumicino When you visit Rome you will probably arrive to Fiumicino Airport. According to Wikipedia, Fiumicino is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio, central Italy, with a population of 80,500. It is known for being the site of Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, the busiest airport in Italy and the eleventh-busiest in Europe. So Italy for me, like for many other tourists, started from Fiumicino. We decided not to drive directly to Rome, but have chosen to stay in the hotel Tiber in Fiumicino. Why? I desperately wanted to see and feel the sea again. I missed the sea so much and grabbed the opportunity! At Fiumicino the Tiber river flows into the sea

Local restaurant and yachts in the morning

Fiumicino public beach

Greeting the sea again after more than two years. All sea lovers will understand me ♥

Enjoyable calmed atmosphere at the beach in the early morning. Important: you need to rent the umbrellas and beach beds to use them.

Hello, Rome! After breakfast and the beach we decided to drive to Rome. Of course the spot number one is Colosseum. No photo next to Colosseum on Instagram – the whole travel does not count, right?☺ We could not catch the bus from Fiumicino to Rome, so had to take a taxi. If you are tight on budget and prefer public transportation it can be a bit tricky to get from Fiumicino to Rome – the buses do not drive that often.

The place where every tourist go. Colosseum → Piazza del Colosseo, 1, 00184 Roma RM, Italy

Colosseum and the streets around

The architecture and nature to fall in love with

Real and not crowded with tourists Rome starts just around the corner. So beautiful and alive. So…italian ☺

Who said every picture must be perfect? No glamour here, just a normal city with its little flaws.

This square is just gorgeous → Via delle Terme di Diocleziano, Roma RM, Italy

On our way to another one big touristic spot I could not stop making photos of everything around. This architecture everywhere! ♥

In love with such details

Souvenirs stores and a living statue

Ice cream cones and restaurants around are the signs that we are close to some important point

Fontaine de Trevi. The Trevi Fountain is an 18th-century fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, Italy, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini and several others. (Wikipedia). A place of attraction number two after Colosseum. → Piazza di Trevi, 00187 Roma RM, Italy

Even during Covid Pandemic this place was crowded. A hint: do not buy there famous italian cannoli. They were too sweet and made without love, just for the tourists.

Spot number three in the list of every tourist, including us, La Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti (Spanish Steps). → Piazza di Spagna, 00187 Roma RM, Italy

Spanish Steps is so popular point of attraction that huge fashion brands like Prada, Dior and others are located here.

Lately in the evening we back to Fiumicino and decided to spend the second (and the last) evening in some nice restaurant

Fish and sea products – just perfect. → Tarumbó Restaurant Via della Torre Clementina, 206, 00054 Fiumicino RM, Italy

Last morning in Fiumicino If you want another one travel tip: never check out too early from the hotel if your plane is in the evening. We were too tired to do anything else and decided to spend the day at the pool. We got heavy sunburns and overall had too much sun with headaches and weakness. Don’t repeat our mistake! ☺ When you try to pack everything just in two days you can expect a lot of impressions and also extreme tiredness. You body even can give up and say “nope, enough”. So, know your limits.

But all in all I feel that my first visit to Italy was amazing. Unforgettable. Inspiring. I recommend this pizzeria, Panificio Tevere, in Fiumicino. Local people buy bread and pizza here. So, it is approved by italians, delicious and affordable to eat every day. → Via della Torre Clementina, 238, 00054 Fiumicino RM, Italy

Thank you Italy

At the beginning of this book I already mentioned the “Eat. Pray. Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert and the movie with Julia Roberts. In the times when I felt lost, when I did not know what do I want, this movie (for me first was the movie, then the book) inspired me. I found my passion and my love again. And I feel grateful that I could experience Italy, just like Liz. Dear Italy, thank you for the sea, for this summer, for the history on every corner, for the stunning architecture and beauty around. I promise to back again! ♥
