BENOÎT MONNEY * 1986. Benoît Monney graduated with a Bachelor in International Relations from the University of Geneva in 2012. He is the cofounder of the film collective Bad Taste Pictures and also works as 1�� assistant director.

OFF THE ROAD (2013), codirected with David Maye, THE LESSON (2016) and BLACK HOLE (2020), all premiered in the Pardi di Domani of the Locarno Film Festival. The return of this man in his life causes Oscar a real emotional shock that brings back dark memories and tragically affects his premonitions.

JULIETTE RICCABONI * 1990. Juliette Riccaboni has joint Swiss and Italian citizenship. She studied Film at Geneva School of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève) and received her Bachelor’s in 2014. BRISSOGNE ISLANDS (2018) was her first directorial work after her studies. It premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and screened in Competition at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur. She also works as camerawoman, lighting technician and casting director.

LUCAS DEL FRESNO * 1993 in Spain. Lucas del Fresno is a Spanish filmmaker based in Switzerland. After graduating in Cultural Studies in Madrid he attended the master programme created by Béla Tarr at the Sarajevo Film Academy in 2018. He directed ONCE AND AGAIN (2019) his first short film, which premiered at the Vilnius Short Film Festival. In 2020 he graduated with a Master in Directing from ECAL / HEAD with the film EUROPA. He is currently working on the screenplay of his first feature-length film.

Pedro, a foreign worker in Switzerland, learns that his mother is in hospital in Spain. Isolated from the world on his employer’s farm, he is asked to take one of the cows to slaughter before leaving for his home country. BEATRICE MINGER * 1980. Beatrice Minger is an author and director. She studied Film Studies, German Studies and Modern History in Zurich, Berlin and Lausanne. Since 2005 she has directed short films and video clips. In 2018 her illustrated book HIER SASS ER was published. Her short film LOVE A LITTLE (2018) screened at international short film festivals. She is currently developing her first feature-­ length film UNDERCURRENTS (working title) with which she is participating in Sources 2 in 2020 / 21.

ALEXANDRE SCHILD * 1999. Alexandre Schild is a self-taught filmmaker. He directed his first short film, GRANULEUSE RÊVERIE, during the summer of 2017. His second short film IDYLLE MARTYRE (2019) was selected for several festivals and won second prize at the Schaffhausen festival. In 2019 and 2020 he directed video clips for the Rebels of Tijuana, Kacimi and Lukas Ionesco. LETTRES EN TON NOM is his latest short film.

JELA HASLER * 1986. Jela Hasler studied Photography in Zurich and Istanbul and Video in Lucerne. Her short films THE MEADOW (2015) and WHERE WE ARE HEADING (2018) premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, and screened at festivals including IDFA, Hot Docs, Tampere and Torino Short Film Market. She has been a jury member of several festivals as well as film funds. She is currently a board member of Pro Short, the Swiss association for short films.

The film was selected at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur in the school film section.

JONAS ULRICH * 1990. Jonas Ulrich is a filmmaker based in Zurich. His short, THIN AIR (2018), was nominated for the Zurich Film Prize in 2019. PEOPLE ON SATURDAY (2020) won the Pardino d’oro at the 2020 Locarno Film Festival. A security guard is seriously injured in a failed sabotage action by a young political activist group. They take him to the alpine hut where they have their temporary hideout. When it turns out that the guard has identified two members of the group, the group is faced with the choice of either accepting the guard’s death or turning themselves in. Which is worth more – the life of the individual or the fight for a just cause?

JULIAN M. GRÜNTHAL * 1981 in Germany. Julian M. Grünthal works as independent director for film and theatre and as cinematographer. He studied stage acting in Zurich 2000–05 and cinematography, film directing and screenwriting at Prague Film School 2014–15, graduating with honours. He codirected MARY & JOHNNY (2011) (Berner Filmpreis) &  POLDER (2015) (Prix Melies d’argent). His short TO THE SEA (2019) toured international festivals. SARAH RATHGEB * 1991. Sarah Rathgeb graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Film from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). After an exchange semester at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) in Leipzig, she moved to Lausanne to pursue her Master in Directing at École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne and Geneva University of Art and Design (ECAL /  HEAD – Genève). Graduating in 2020 with her film STRAY, she now works on the Manage­ ment Board for the Gässli Film Festival in Basel.

YOUSSEF YOUSSEF * 1989. Youssef Youssef spent his youth between Cairo and Geneva. He studied Business and Socio-economics at the University of Geneva, and fashion at La Central Saint Martins in London. He pursued his studies in cinema at the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève) where he graduated in 2020 with his short film SUPREME. The film was awarded Best Swiss School Film at Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2020. In his films he likes to address themes around sexuality, gender and identity.

Noah, a young man in search of his identity, is invited by his best friend, Ethan, to take part in the expeditions he organises with his gang in the depths of the metro. In this in-between world, where they compete to find their place, Ethan will challenge the teenagers to jump over the rails before the train arrives. For Noah, risking his life seems to be the only way to be accepted and above all to exist in Ethan’s eyes.

LOÏC HOBI * 1997. Loïc Hobi is a Swiss and French filmmaker. He graduated with a Master from Luc Besson’s film school École de la Cité in Saint Denis in 2019. His short L’HOMME JETÉE (2019) screened in Winterthur, Berlin, Busan and various other festivals worldwide. His filmography includes more experimental work such as NEW GODS (IDFA 2020) and FACE TO FACE IN THE NIGHT (2019). He is currently working on his next short film ALEXX196 & THE PINK SAND BEACH and developing his first feature.

ALICE FARGIER * 1984 in France. Alice Fargier is a Franco-Swiss who graduated with a Master’s in directing from University of Paris 8. THE WATER AND THE WALL (2014) was selected for and awarded at various international festivals, as well as nominated for the Best Short Film at the Swiss Film Prize 2016. Travelling through India, the filmmaker witnesses the spectacular felling of a tree: A holy peepul tree is being cut down by seven lumbermen using handsaws and axes. Over the course of several days, she is in the thick of the activity with her camera. The language barrier however impedes verbal communication. WENDY PILLONEL * 1986. Wendy Pillonel received her Master in Film Directing from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2017. Her short films have all screened at international festivals and her graduation film BLACK HOURS (2017) won the 2019 Swiss Film Award. In 2020 the collective film LES NOUVELLES-EVES won the 10�� Migros Documentary Competition. She directed two docudramas for SRF in 2020.

A visual and sonic journey through my deepest fear of a dehumanized world. An experimental short film inspired by the song “Do Know Where The Fear Comes From” and made for the Swiss band Ogmasun.
