Cead Mile Failte to You All to the Tenth Annual Cape Cod Saint Patrick’s Parade Thank you for attending the tenth annual Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade. It is hard to believe that we are celebrating our tenth anniversary. Like many great accomplishments it is said that the idea for this parade was conceived at a pub where a meeting of the minds and $100.00 dollars in the bank was the start of what you see today. We are very proud and grateful to those pioneers whose dream and hard work have caused us to land where we are. Today the Parade Committee is made up of hard working volunteers from various backgrounds within our community. Without their constant and continued hard work this parade would not be possible. At this time we would like to take a moment and remember our volunteers, including those who have passed and those who have moved on to other worthy causes. Thank you very much for all you have done and all that you do. The next big thank you goes to our corporate sponsors and advertisers. Without their support we could not make this day possible. Please make it a point to patronize the businesses listed in this book. They have been a constant and imperitive source of support. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Town of Yarmouth’s Tourism Preservation Fund for supporting our efforts to bring thousands of people to the Mid-Cape area to help celebrate St. Patrick and the coming of Spring. They have entrusted us with funds which help go towards promoting this event and putting heads in beds and people in front of plates. We are very excited to have Cindy Fitzgibbon serve at this year’s Grand Marshal. As you know Cindy Fitzgibbon is a WCVB-TV Channel 5 News meteorologist and we can look to her for some great weather on Parade day! To quote Cindy “I have always been a weather nerd. I love the change that weather brings every day,” Cindy Fitzgibbon is a native New Englander who grew up in Windham, Maine and knows all too well how much we are dependent on good weather. Serving as this year’s Mayor is none other than Super Bowl Champ and New England Patriot running back, Jonas Gray. Jonas Gray was a college standout for the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame and sent a charge through Patriot Nation with his most memorable game against The Indianapolis Colts. Cindy and Jonas will be on hand to lead us down route 28 as we come together to celebrate St. Patrick and the coming of spring here on Cape Cod. Please help spread the word of our great parade. Help us by using social media, family gatherings and any social event to invite more friends and family to come and join the celebration. Your help and support of this parade will enable us to continue to grow and bring more fun and excitement to Cape Cod. Thomas Francis Meagher Award

Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings James Cummings has been Sheriff of Barnstable County for going on 16 years. In 1974, not long after an honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Jim began a law enforcement career with the Massachusetts State Police. He left 24 years later to run for Sheriff. By then he’d become a court-qualified expert on organized crime, gaming, narcotics, and arson. Detective Lieutenant Cummings ended his years in blue investigating and helping prosecute crime for the State Police Detective unit assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. He also taught and helped set up the State Police’s first homicide school. His first job as Sheriff was to hammer out a mission statement . . . one that demands the attention of the three hundred and fifty employees who work for him. Its pillars are Compassion, Teamwork, Professionalism, and Integrity -- with special emphasis on the latter. Public service was an honorable profession when Jim Cummings took the sheriff’s helm in 1999 and he’s made it more so today. Sheriff Cummings has a great appreciation for our veterans and has raised funds for many veterans groups and organization here on Cape Cod including Cape Cod Cares for the Troops and Hero’s in Transition. The Sheriff has also used his Community Service Crews to build ramps for handicapped veterans and they have also done extensive work on the new Grace Veterans Center in Mashpee as well as doing work on many VFW’s and American Legion Post across the Cape.

Emily Cummings

Emily is a Senior at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School where she is the flute section leader in the Marching Band. She is also a 2014 graduate of the Drum Major Academy at U. Mass. Amherst. Emily is the Vice President of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS), an organization with which she will travel to Italy in the next few weeks for an eight day tour. Emily organized and was elected President of her high school’s Irish Club. She has also been involved in the Special Olympics and volunteering her time to work with children to assist organizations such as the Rotary Club and Yarmouth Food Pantry.

Brenna McGill

Brenna is a senior at Monomoy Regional High School. She is president of the National Honor Society as well as president of Interact Club. Brenna is an active member of Student Council, Best Buddies, French and Art clubs, STAND as well her local Youth Council. She has played field hockey throughout her high school career and served as captain this past fall season. Brenna plans on studying business here in the United States as will as abroad in Ireland.

Kiera is a Senior at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. She has been accepted to the Elementary Education Program at Endicott College, Assumption College, Bridgewater State University and is waiting to hear from Westfield State. She is a member of the Prom and Yearbook Committees. Kiera is also involved in the Internship Programs assisting students in the Station Avenue Elementary and Mattacheese Middle Schools as well as coaching softball at the Middle School along with other after school activities. Kiera’s Irish heritage is very important to her and her family and hopes to visit Ireland in the near future.

Laura Murphy

Laura is a senior at Sandwich High School. She is the soprano section leader in the show choir, Sandwich Soul, as well as a member of the girls varsity tennis team. Laura shares her athletic talents by teaching tennis to children in the Mashpee REC program. With family in Connemara and Castlebar, Laura has spent many summers making wonderful memories with them in Ireland. She will continue making Irish memories as she will be entering the Arts Honors Degree at National University of Ireland Maynooth, County Kildare.

The Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade Committee is pleased to have

“Cindy Fitzgibbon” as the 10th Parade Grand Marshal Cindy Fitzgibbon, who joined WCVB-TV 5 April 8 as the meteorologist for NewsCenter 5’s EyeOpener, said she has wanted to be a meteorologist since the sixth grade. “I have always been a weather nerd. I love the change that weather brings every day,” she said. Fitzgibbon, a native New Englander, grew up in Windham, Maine. “Natick is home now,” Fitzgibbon said. “I am rooted in the community with my husband and two sons, ages 7 and 5.” “The benefit of having of the early morning shift is that I can still be involved with my kids in the afternoon,” she said. Fitzgibbon, who studied meteorology at Lyndon State College in Vermont, has forecast the weather for 17 years and spent the last decade as a meteorologist in Boston. She covered the deadly tornadoes of June 2011, the devastating ice storm of Dec. 2008 and Tropical Storm Irene in Aug. 2011. “I’ve also covered perhaps 300 snowstorms,” she said with a laugh. After getting her degree in meteorology, Fitzgibbon started her career in Bismarck, N.D., and worked in Burlington, Vt. and Fort Myers, Fla., before coming to Boston in 2002. She has been nominated for three Emmy awards. “Don’t ask me to pick a favorite season. I love them all,” she said. Catherine (Kathleen) has been chosen for “The 2015 Cape Cod Saint Patrick’s Parade Senior Colleen.” Catherine ihas been a member of the Irish American Club of Cape Cod since 2000, serving on the Board of Directors and particiapting in many of their Irish activities. Catherine was born in Bushy Park, County Galway, seventh from the top in a family of twelve. Catherine was educated at Scoil Muire and attended University College, Galway studying Language Arts before journeying to the United States in 1957. Catherine settled in the Boston area working in the medical and banking fields before she met and married Paul Deery in 1959. They raised a family of five, three daughters and two sons. Catherine is the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren. Catherine cherishes spending time with her family and friends. She loves traveling to Ireland and Europe, writing a daily journal and listening and dancing to Irish music. She also enjoys volunteering at a local nursing home and participating in church activities. The Irish American Club of Cape Cod is very proud to have Catherine Deery chosen as this year’s Parade Senior Colleen. “God Bless and Keep Our Colleen”
