TABERNAS’ DESERT
GEOLOGICAL F O R M AT I O N
LOCATION • It’s located in the Province of Almería (Spain), exactly in the municipal terms of Tabernas, Gádor, Santa Cruz, Alboloduy and Gergal.
TYPE OF ROCKS • There are Little compact rocks, but they can be disolved. • There are big Karst and Caves made by the action of the water.
GEOLOGICAL FORMATION • This desert is the result of the geological evolution of a marine basin that underwent several chapters of flooding and desiccation.
• It has also suffered fluvial erosion when the climate has vey dry and especially the activity of earthquakes that has been deforming more rigid strata that have given rise to reliefs on the slope.

CLIMATE • It’s the tipical climate of this place: The semi-arid Mediterranean • Average temperature of day and night: 17.9ºC • Monthly averages range from January, 9º, to 24º in August.
FLORA AND FA U N A
FLORA • In the mountains area there are: rosemary, thyme, esparto… • In the ramblas there are palm trees,fig trees and juncos… • In the Slopes there are prickly pear trees that are from here
FAUNA • You can find. -Insects like: bees, grasshoppers, cicadas… -Birds like: jackdaws, sparrows, pilgrims, eagles… -Land Animals: foxes, rabbits, snakes, toads…

POPULATION AND ECONOMICAL ACTIVITY • There aren’t too many villages in the desert or near it because it’s a protected area except these villages: Gádor, Alboloduy, Gérgal… and Almería that is 30km from the desert. • There are some economical activities in Tabernas’ desert like Oasis Mini Hollywood, a very famous zoo, some touristic tours in Fort Bravo or in the Karst.
ECONOMICAL ACTIVITY CINE MA • In the 60s and the 70s the Tabernas desert was the main shooting area in Almería. The main film genre was the Westerns. • In the 80s this type of film became very boring for the people and no films were shot.
• Now lots of commercials are filmed in the desert and also some famous films like Exodus (Ridley Scott)
• It’s becoming an alternative shooting place for desert scenes because of the wars in the medium east.
ECOLOGICAL IMPACT
ECOLOGICAL IMPACT NOWADAYS • A report done by the University of AlmerĂa say that we should pay attention for these things: -Deforestation: they deforestate for making new crops areas. -Intensive agriculture -Some mining activity -Urbanisation -Excessive ranching
FUTURE ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS • The main problem that can be for the future is the expansion of the desert. This is referred to desertification so lets say that the main problem of the desert is that it can destroy other landscapes and make them part of the desert.
