The telecommunications industry is thriving in Oskaloosa with a local company that provides high-speed Internet, digital television and telecommunications service. The community features several small computer companies that provide Web site services and computer-related retail. Oskaloosa is served by several national telecommunications companies. To promote the growth of industry in the Oskaloosa area, a group of local industries formed the Mahaska Community Development Group. The MCDG’s mission is to assist the expansion of local industry and the recruitment of new manufacturers to the area. An on-going project for MCDG is the construction of a connector road from the Oskaloosa Industrial Park to the intersection of Highways 63
and 163 south of the city. MCDG is working with the city of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County and the Iowa Department of Transportation on the project. The Oskaloosa Chamber and Development Group industrial park is a 33.5 acre site on the southeast edge of Oskaloosa. It has road access from South 35th Street and connects the site to Highways 92 and 23. The site also is 30 miles from Interstate 80. A Union Pacific Railroad track is approximately 400 feet from the site; a spur is available and has daily switching. The Oskaloosa airport is located nearby a few miles southeast of the city limits. The Oskaloosa Chamber and Development Group also helps existing businesses looking to expand and new industries wanting to locate in the area with several incentive programs. The programs include forgivable or low-interest loans, reimbursement of training costs, funds for road improvements, competitive utility rates, partial property tax exemptions,
