EDITORIAL | EDITORIAL Esta nueva presentación del boletín de CEPIA ha sido realizada para mejorar la apariencia del mismo y como parte de un proyecto de "Formando Jóvenes hacia el Futuro". Este proyecto consistía básicamente en enseñarles a utilizar algunas herramientas de diseño gráfico, como Photoshop, para crear flyers, logos, hacer montajes con fotografías, etc... La portada de esta revista ha sido un ejercicio a realizar por el grupo. Otros jóvenes con especial capacidad o interés en el manejo del programa han empezado a usar InDesign, y el ejercicio propuesto para ese objetivo ha sido la creación de esta revista. Por el momento, es una revista digital pero no queremos descartar la posibilidad de hacer una revista impresa que, además de informar de las actividades de CEPIA, también pueda servir de guía local en Guanacaste informando de temas relacionados con cultura, ecología, noticias, etc... Las empresas o negocios de la zona podrían anunciarse en la revista, que se distribuiría gratuitamente y los beneficios se invertirían en formación y recursos para los jóvenes.

This new CEPIA newsletter has been completed to improve its appearance and as part of the project "Training Teenagers into the future" The graphic design course in this project was aimed at teaching them to use some tools of graphic design, like Photoshop, to create flyers, logos, photographic montages... This magazine cover was one of the exercises assigned to the group. Other youth with more talent or interest in graphic design programs started to use InDesign with the propose to create this magazine. It is a digital magazine for now, but we don't want to rule out the possibility of a printed magazine reporting about CEPIA’s activities as well as a local guide to Guanacaste, reporting about cultural and ecology issues, local news, etc... Businesses in the area could advertise in the magazine, distributed freely. The benefits would be invested in training and protecting the youth of Guanacaste.

NUEVO CENTRO COMUNITARIO NEW COMMUNITY CENTRE

n nuevo Centro Comunitario Integral esperamos que se construya en el 2012 para la Asociación CEPIA. El Centro Comunitario es el lugar donde la educación, cultura, salud y la cohesión social serán totalmente fortalecidos y desarrollados. La asociación CEPIA será el propietario y gerente del Centro, continuando con sus actividades y programas que se han ofrecido desde hace 6 años, pero en mejores condiciones y ampliando la oferta de servicios. Además de las clases extracurriculares en Inglés, artes y deportes para los niños, orientación psicológica, capacitación para los maestros, educación para los jóvenes que abandonan la escuela, cursos de formación profesional (informática, Inglés, belleza, cocina...), y atención a madres y niños

en situación de pobreza extrema, el Centro también ofrecerá cursos de hotelería y agricultura domestica, entre otros, los fines de semana. Además, el centro será la sede del Colegio Nocturno para 400 estudiantes. Los adolescentes y los adultos deHuacas, en las peores condiciones posibles: muchos recibirán educación en el mejor ambiente para mejorar su bienestar y su éxito. Hoy en día estas personas, que trabajan durante el día y que van al colegio en la noche (4:30pm-9pm), reciben clases en la escuela primaria tienen que sentarse en el suelo porque no hay sillas, algunos reciben las clase a fuera en el patio, etc ... No podrías imaginarte esto que sucede a sólo unos kilómetros de Tamarindo y Flamingo, ¿verdad? 4

Más de 2000 personas se beneficiarán del Centro anualmente. El edificio de 2 plantas de 950 m2 costará $ 400 000. Los planos del edificio han sido donados por la architecta Melina d’Alolio de Playa Grande y por la empresa Circuito. Esperamos que todas las empresas y miembros de la comunidad se unan a nosotros en este importante esfuerzo para fortalecer la calidad

de la educación y la vida de las personas con menos recursos. No podemos hacerlo sin usted! few miles away from Tamarindo and Flamingo, right? More than a 2000 people will benefit from the Centre on a yearly basis. The 2-floor building is 950 m2 and will cost 400 000 $. new Community Centre will hopefullybe built in 2012 by the nonprofit organization CEPIA in Huacas. The Community Centre is the place where education, culture, health and social cohesion will be fully strengthened and developed. The organization CEPIA will be the owner and manager of the Centre, continuing its activities and programs that have been offered since 6 years, but in very much improved conditions and broadening the offer of services. Besides the extracurricular classes in English, arts and sports for children, psychological counseling, trainings for teachers, education for teenagers dropped out of school, a wide variety of professional trainings (computer, English, beauty care, cooking…) and attention to mothers and children in extreme poverty, the Centre will as well offer courses in client service and domestic agriculture among others, during weekends. Further, the centre will host the Night High School for 400 students. Teenagers and adults will receive education in the best environment to improve their wellbeing and success. Today these teenagers and adults, that work during the day and go to high school at night (4:30pm9pm), receive class in the Huacas elementary school, in the worst possible conditions: some of them have to sit on the floor because there are no chairs, some receive their lecture outside, etc… We would not imagine this is happening 5

rom July 4th to 15th you could be heard laughter, shouts and emotions of children who came every day to the CEPIA facilities participating in different activities we had planned for them as a summer camp during these school holidays. Activities such as chess, pastry, reading stories, art, games, dance and swimming were ideal for kids to express their full potencial and to develop their habilities. We thank the volunteers Laurence, Cecilia, Shelley, Cheri, Octavio, Donald, Lisa, Karol, Joyce, Kris, Rosana, Grettel, for their dedication and support.

Actividades, pastelería, ajedrez, cuentos, arte, juegos, danza, cuidado del ambiente y natación fueron el complemento ideal para que los chicos expresaran al máximo su potencial y desarrollaran su habilidades. Agradecemos cordialmente a los voluntarios Laurence, Cecilia, Shelley, Cheri, Octavio, Donald, Lisa, Karol, Joyce, Kris, Rosana, Grettel, por su colaboración con nosotros y especialmente con los niños en este campamento de verano, les esperamos siempre.

l programa formando jóvenes hacia el futuro sigue con mucha fuerza, en este segundo semestre. Los chicos han demostrado cualidades y emociones que nos llena de mucho orgullo, ya que estos muchachos nos comentan que si CEPIA no les hubieran brindado la oportunidad estarían en lugares o situaciones no muy agradables tanto para ellos mismos como para sus familias y por ende para la sociedad. Por sus esfuerzos fueron recompensados con el paseo por ejemplo fueron al laberinto ubicado en Sta. Rosa los día 21 y 22. Gracias a Grite Depypere por recibirnos en su propiedad y explicarnos todo lo que conlleva el laberinto. Les contamos también que tenemos a 8 jóvenes 10

que se están preparando para presentar exámenes del ministerio de educación para obtener su titulo de sexto grado de la escuela en Octubre y esperamos puedan cumplir con este reto. Queremos agradecer a los restaurantes Kike´s Place en Playa Grande, hotel Capitán Suizo, restaurante Nibbana por sus deliciosos almuerzos para los chicos, también agradecemos a las voluntarias Elodie, Ashley, Jeanne y Tatiana por traernos el almuerzo de los respectivos restaurantes, ellas toman su tiempo para prestar su colaboración. he program â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;training teenagers into the futureâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; continues with great force, in the second semestre. The youth have demonstrated qualities and emotions that fill us with pride, because these guys are telling us that if they had not been given the opportunity to study again, they would be in not very pleasant situations for themselves, for their families and thus for society. They were rewarded for the effort with an outdoor trip: the Tamarindo Labirinth in Santa Rosa on the 21 and 22 of July. We thank Griet Depypere for hosting us and for explaining all that comes with the labirinth.

We also tell you that we have 8 teenagers who are preparing their sixth grade exams to be passsed in October and we hope they will meet this challenge. We thank Kike's Place Restaurant in Playa Grande, Capitan Suizo hotel, restaurant Nibbana for their delicious lunches for the youth, also the volunteers Elodie, Ashley, Jeanne and Tatiana for bringing the lunches every week, they take time to do this for these kids. CAMPAÑA DE REFORESTACIÓN REFORESTATION CAMPAIGN

l pasado 20 de Agosto en coordinación con la asociación de desarrollo integral de Huacas, ASADA y CEPIA, se realizo un día de reforestación en la comunidad de Huacas. Esta actividad tuvo como objetivo proteger áreas vulnerables donde existen fuentes importantes generadoras de agua, además de embellecer los alrededores y crear conciencia en las personas sobre la necesidad de proteger nuestro medio ambiente.

TALLER A PADRES DE FAMILIA WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS

ste taller se impartió durante todo el mes de agosto en los centros educativos con motivo de la celebración del mes de la Integración Familiar. Comunidades como Playa Potrero, Brasilito, Playa Grande, Huacas, La Garita Nueva, Santa Rosa, Matapalo, Villareal, recibieron el taller. Dentro de las principales temáticas que se desarrollaron estaba, la importancia del continuo reforzamiento de los valores dentro de la familia, a su vez la relevancia que tiene una buena y adecuada comunicación entre cada uno de los miembros de la familia, la incorporación de los padres de familia en el proceso de aprendizaje de sus hijos, se tuvo la participación de 250 padres de familia de los diversos centros educativos.

l lunes 01 de agosto y viernes 05 de agosto se impartió en el Colegio Técnico Profesional de 27 de Abril, un taller acerca de la prevención de la violencia, ya que este es una de las principales problemáticas que afectan no solo a la comunidad sino al país en general, se conto con la participación de estudiantes de noveno, decimo y quinto grado para un total de 200 estudiantes.

It counted with the participation of ninth, tenth and fifth graders for a total of 200 teenagers.
