Viva la Eva T

he glamorous and beautiful Eva Longoria graced are sunny shores recently whilst attending the Global Gift Gala at Aqua Mist Club on Saturday August 18th and the Dynamic Walk – A - Thon on Saturday 19th August. The 37-year-old actress was representing The Eva Longoria Foundation, which was one of the three beneficiaries of the evening.

Famous the world over the actress is best known for her role as Gabriel Solis on the hit show Desperate Housewives, and Isabella Braña on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless her film credits include, The Sentinal, The Truth, Harsh Times, and Long Time Gone among others, in addition to acting, Eva has produced the National Council of La Raza’s ALMA awards, Harvest – a documentary about the plight of child farm workers in the US, and Latinos Living the American Dream a film documenting the contributions of Latinos in America. Eva is also co-owner of Latin steakhouses Beso Hollywood and Beso Las Vegas and in 2001 she released her New York Times bestselling cookbook, Eva’s Kitchen. SPOTLIGHT MAGAZINE

It is a little wonder that she finds time to dedicate herself to her foundation however Eva is an active philanthropist. Eva Longoria founded the Foundation in 2012 to help Latinas build better futures for themselves and their families through education and entrepreneurship. In her own words, The growing Latina population is an untapped resource.

â&#x20AC;&#x153;If we give Latinas the tools to unlock their potential, we will see amazing results.â&#x20AC;? She also co-founded Evaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Heroes, a San Antonio nonprofit organization that helps develop mentally disabled children, and serves as a spokesperson for Padres Contra el Cancer, an organization supporting Latino families who have children with cancer.

Additionally, Eva sits on the boards of the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF) and LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes. She has supported United Farm Workers and the Dolores Huerta Foundation, among other organizations. In 2011, Eva was appointed by President Obama to the commission on the National Museum of the American Latino, which will house historical artifacts, images, and personal stories documenting more than 500 years of Latino contributions to the U.S. She has received numerous awards for her philanthropy from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the National Hispania Leadership Institute, The National Civil Rights Museum, Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, and the Mayor of Los Angeles, among others. one of the oldest cities in the world

t is easy to understand why Malaga City is dubbed the Capital of the Costa del Sol. Once considered the poor cousin of Andalusia’s Capital city, Seville, it now competes successfully for attention, thanks to its profusion of quirky museums, innovative restaurants and stylish hotels, many featuring trendy rooftop terraces with bar, pool and stunning views. The opening of the Picasso Museum in 2003 triggered the city’s cultural rebirth, and visitors are now flocking to this port city which boasts excellent transport, top-class cuisine, and fascinating monuments, from Moorish and Roman times through to modern day - while retaining its authentic Andalucian feel.

Malaga has more museums than any other city in Andalucia - and there are new ones opening al the time. History and Monuments As well as homage to the great Picasso, other great historic monuments include the imposing Baroque Cathedral, popularly known as ‘La Manquita’ (One Armed Woman), and the newly restored Roman theatre. High on the hill above the city is the Parador, which is situated in the Gibralfaro, a Moorish castle of great historical importance. The Parador is a wonderful place to either stay the night or have a long lunch with fascinating surroundings and panoramic views over 14

Malaga city and out across the port to sea. Although there has been a certain amount of destruction in Malaga over the centuries, especially during the Spanish Civil War, there is still plenty of proof of the Moorish occupation. Today you can visit the Moorish Alcazaba fortress, dating back to 1065, which also now features a very interesting archaeological museum. Shopping & Festivities & Things to do Malaga is not only the perfect place to explore the many historical monuments, atmospheric little streets and squares with delightful café culture, but it is also an excellent shopping centre. The main street to head for runs perpendicular to the stunning tree lined avenue, the Alameda, and starts at the Plaza Marina, near the port. Calle Marqués de Larios was pedestrianised in 2002 as part of improvements to Malaga city centre. The result is a bustling, chic area with many boutiques, designer shops and classy cafes all surrounded by beautifully restored buildings. At the top of Larios is the main square, Plaza de la Constitución, which is centre of attention when cultural, traditional, and religious events are celebrated. It is especially pretty in December, when a huge Christmas tree and decorations become the focal point. During Semana Santa (Easter Holy Week), Malaga is taken over by

the population of Malaga grows year on year. Included in the many ongoing Municipal projects is the construction of a Metro (underground) system to link up key areas including the large University Campus and the International Congress Centre to the West. There are many festivals celebrated throughout the year in Malaga, such as the International Jazz Festival (at the beginning of November) and Film Festival (held early in March) and much more. The main theatre and location these and many such events are held, is the excellent and beautiful Teatro Cervantes (Cervantes Theatre) Malaga Airport Pablo Ruiz Picasso Málaga International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Spain, with up to a staggering 16 million passengers annually. It serves much of Andalusia and especially the ever popular area all along the Costa del Sol. extraordinary religious processions and the square is decked out with tiers of seats for spectators. Off Calle Larios, in the melee of tiny streets and interesting tapa bars, restaurants and even teterías (Moorish tearooms) you will find other interesting shops and also the bustling main fresh food market, Mercado Central de Atarazanas. There are also several indoor commercial shopping malls, one just behind the landmark building of the huge quality department store, El Corte Ingles. Whereas previously, Malaga centre used to live up to the southern tradition of keeping the siesta time sacred, more and more shops are now open all day.

Malaga Port The Port of Málaga is an international seaport located in the city of Málaga in southern Spain, on the Costa del Sol coast of the Mediterranean. It is the oldest continuously-operated port in Spain and one of the oldest in the Mediterranean. Principal port activities include cruise shipping and the importation of containerised manufactured products, break bulk and vehicles. A small fishing fleet also operates from the port.

Some of the smaller, family run businesses may still lock up for a long lunch. But the commercial shopping centers, El Corte Ingles and many of the shops in Calle Larios stay open all day, to meet the demand of the resident or tourist who enjoys the freedom of longer shopping hours. During the summer months and leading up to Christmas and Kings Day (January 6 th) many specialist shops, such as El Corte Ingles department store extend their hours to open on certain Sundays. The urban sprawl around the city is undergoing expansion and development as SPOTLIGHT MAGAZINE

he Fiat 500 is living proof that a high-end lifestyle doesn’t always mean driving the biggest and most powerful four-wheeled machines on the planet. Thanks to the Fiat 500, you can still enjoy the finer things in life without having to sell your soul for the name of luxury. In 2011 Fiat found a new way to infuse luxury and desire into one small and cute package by striking a partnership with noted Italian luxury brand, Gucci. Both companies were celebrating anniversaries of some sort – Fiat was commemorating the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy whereas Gucci was celebrating its 90th birthday - it seemed like a logical move to join forces 24

and, well, celebrate together, all in the name of the red, white, and green. The Fiat 500 by Gucci launched last year is still the most desired small car on the market, available in two exterior body colors: black with chrome details and white with satin chrome details. Both versions of the 500 Gucci have a number of styling references of the Italian luxury fashion shop, including hubcaps that feature the unmistakable interlocking ‘GG’ logo that’s been synonymous with Gucci for as long as the brand has been alive. The Italian design house also has its signature printed on the 500’s rear hatch and B-column while the rear brake calipers come in the

iconic ‘Gucci green’ color. But the most telling part of the car’s ‘ode to Gucci’ exterior is the fashion company’s signature green-red-green stripe, which runs along the entire perimeter of the 500. Rounding out the upgrades on the exterior is a set of 16” alloy wheels. As for the interior, each of the two versions of the 500 Gucci have their own set of interior colors with the black version getting a two-tone black and white interior while the white version is getting a similar two-tone ivory and black finish. And just like the Gucci house-stripes on the outside of the car, the interior also gets the same green-red-green stripe treatment on the seats, the seatbelts, the key-cover, the gear knob, and the carpets.

Under its hood, both versions of the 500 by Gucci come with a 1.4-liter TwinAir two-cylinder engine that produces 100 horsepower- not bad for a small car! Fiat, have done well for themselves with this partnership with Gucci. Not only were they able to combine two market bases the young and the style conscious with one car, but the price tag for the car isn’t big enough to scare away those who thought they might not be able to afford a little piece of luxury, after all what woman wouldn’t want to drive a Gucci!!

Spotlight Magazine was lucky enough to catch up with him during his hectic schedule, within their stunning home and decoration department, El Capricho on Marbella’s Golden Mile, to glean an inside track of how El Corte Inglés remains a European leader within the highly competitive retail industry. What sets El Corte Inglés apart from other global department stores? “There is no other department store like it in Spain. Indeed it is one of the leaders in Europe. We have secured most major brands across Europe and put them all under one roof. This is actually the same concept we have applied to El Capricho. It is one of a kind; unique. We designed this store; an absolute beauty and you will not find anything close to this type of store, in Spain. We decided we would

The meaning of the term Feng Shui

Feng Shui is a term composed of two Chinese words: feng (wind) and shui (water). Wind and water are the two natural elements that flow, 108

move, and circulate everywhere on Earth. They are also the most basic elements required for human survival. Wind or air is the breath of life; without it, we would die in moments. And water is the liquid of life; without it, we would die in days. The combined qualities of wind and water determine the climate, which historically has determined our food supply and in turn affects our lifestyle, health, energy, and mood. These two fundamental and flowing elements have always profoundly yet subtly influenced human individuals and societies. The essence of these life-giving elements is chi, or life force. Wind and water are direct carriers of chi, as their flowing quality reflects their essential nature. All living organisms are largely composed of these two elements. Thus, Feng Shui is the art of designing environments in harmony with the flow of chi through one’s living space, and this flow supports and enhances one’s personal chi or life force.

Rising popularity & Health benefits of Sushi The last few decades have seen a massive surge in the number of health conscious people worldwide. From the early eighties people have been keeping a check on the amount of calories they are ingesting. “Health food” has almost become a fad and Sushi fell into the category of healthy, fashionable and a delightfully exotic cuisine! Sushi is high in protein and helps to lower cholesterol levels, making it good for the heart. In fact, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommend consumption of two servings of fish daily.
