Shawnee Town A must-see stop for history buffs. Shawnee Town is an outdoor museum interpreting small- town, rural life from the 1920s. Stroll through the museum and visit the building and grounds featuring a home, barn, school, post office, chapel, fire station, various businesses and gardens.

Begin your day with a morning jog or family stroll through this crown jewel of Johnson County parks. With 1,250 acres of fun for every season, you can take your pick of activities – fishing on the 140-acre lake, canoeing, golfing, paddle boating – name it and you can do it here. On a clear summer evening, there is nothing like a picnic and a musical at Theatre in the Park.
The Parks and Recreation Department oversees more than 563 acres of beautiful city parks, Shawnee Town, the Civic Centre and the City’s two state of the art aquatic facilities. They also offer over 500 classes, programs and host a variety of special events throughout the year for all ages including youth, adults and seniors.
