Stories & Themes for Com munit y Minds This past year, Lawrence Magazine began a partnership with the Lawrence Public Library to create a series of free events highlighting subjects and people featured in the most recent issue of our publication.

In July, Jai Nitz and Greg Smallwood treated us to a behind-the-scenes look at their ongoing graphic novel projects, blending literary writing with old-school influenced comic illustrations. There were even onsite drawings of their new concept featuring a family of werewolves in the southern United States.

This coming season, on January 29, the Uptown Mandolin Quartet (featured on page 30 of this issue), will mark 40 years of music with an anniversary concert and presentation about how their music has evolved over the past four decades. With cake and celebration—it’s a must-see concert by a group of Lawrence legends.

We’ll post updates on the upcoming “About Lawrence …” events on this page in future issues. Also look for the time

and location announcements posted at the library and in the library’s monthly newsletter.
