Briefly One Network Bank MATI City — One Network Bank, currently recognized as Mindanao’s widest banking network, celebrated the official grand opening of its 100th branch in the City of Mati on Thursday. ONB President, Alex V. Buenaventura, joined by the Management Team headed by the members of the corporation’s executive committee, expressed their happiness over the success of the banking institution, which now also expands beyond the countryside of Mindanao. Buenaventura, during the grand opening, said that aside from ONB’s usual financing of agricultural businesses, they are also looking at bankrolling funds for provincial government’s development projects, particularly in providing financial support to small farmers and entrepreneurs.

Abaca expansion ZAMBOANGA City -- Assistant Regional Director Deogracias V. Maranga of the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PHILFIDA)-9 bared recently that his office is now pushing for expansion of abaca farms in Zamboanga Peninsula to increase abaca fiber production to meet the market demand. “Our central office has given us a target of 100 hectares for our regional abaca farm expansion program for this year,” Maranga disclosed. But more than the given target, Maranga said PHILFIDA-9 has also targeted a much bigger area for abaca farming. “Aside from the 100 hectares that our central office mandated us to develop this year, we also have targeted 1,000 hectares all over the region for farm expansion under the SME abaca industry champion product development,” Maranga stressed.

Govt sets privatization of 3 Mindanao ports T

HE government has reasserted its earlier position to push for the privatization of Cagayan de Oro port, and two others in Mindanao under the public-private partnership (PPP) program.

“We are studying [these] ports whether or not to include them in the PPP initiative. If it is not viable to include them in the PPP list, we will finance the portdevelopment projects,” Juan Sta. Ana, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) general manager, said. The deal, however, has yet to be approved by the National Economic and Development Authority Investment Coordination Committee.

Sta. Ana said the PPA hired two consultants to conduct the feasibility study for the privatization of the port. The two consultancy firms have submitted their respective findings and recommendations to the port body. “We are busy harmonizing the results to come up with a win-win solution on how to carry out the privatization to pave the way for the modernization of Sasa ports/PAGE 9

THE national government is setting aside P289 million for infrastructure projects in the Kalabugao Plain, the triboundary of the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, and Agusan Del Sur, a senior local government official said Tuesday. Rene K. Burdeos, regional director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Region 10, said that the Kalabugao Plain has seven

barangays and a total land area of about 51,000 hectares. He said that a provincial road that would traverse t h e D a m ay - K a l a b u g a o lines in Bukidnon would be constructed in the area in 2015. The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) has committed the amount for the road project in the Kalabugao Plain, Burdeos said. He said that the

development of the Kalabugao Plain is important because it affects other parts of Mindanao. “The bulk of the flood waters in t he cities of Gingoog, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, and Cotabato usually originate from the Kalabugao Plain, home of the Higaonon tribes and a strategic watershed area of Pulangi River,” he said.
