These 40 pages contain a selection of portraits and photo reportages that were published in Subbacultcha! Magazine between May 2011 and May 2012. Subbacultcha! Magazine is a free pocket-sized music publication from Amsterdam. The magazine is renowned for the personal style with which it portrays progressive, exciting underground acts. Young, up-and-coming independent photographers are assigned to portray musicians with an artistic aesthetic and a strong personal focus. With this publication we pay tribute to both the photographers and the musicians we work with. Together they’ve created wonderful autonomous images that are a far cry from standard band photography and offer a sensitive, personal and unique view into today’s international alternative music scene.
