MINISTRY

4

Loyola High School is a distinctly Jesuit institution. Our Catholic and Ignatian principles lead us to educate the whole person—body, mind and spirit—through academic and co-curricular activities as well as spiritual development. Dynamic and interdependent, the Ministry Department includes the Campus Ministry, the Justice and Peace Coalition and our Community Service program. Our aim is to foster all members of the Loyola community in their growth toward fully engaged lives of action and prayer.

Over 500

non-profit agencies and schools partnered with our students in community service activities in the last year.

Teams and clubs play a pivotal role in the whole formation of our students by defining individual character, building self-confidence, developing leadership skills, teaching self-discipline, learning to manage conflict, getting along with others during adversity and practicing good sportsmanship. These skills profoundly affect our students’ lives on campus as well as after graduation.

artist and a scholar, thinking outside of the box is necessary to set myself apart from the crowd, and my preparation at Loyola has done just that for me.”

FINE & PERFORMING ARTS

16

Since the time the Jesuits launched their first school in 1548, they have understood that the fine and performing arts, joined with all the other branches of knowledge, are a powerful means to develop imagination, feelings, conscience and intellect. Loyola’s fine and dramatic arts program develops the skills, techniques and knowledge needed for the student to be able to reveal himself and his perceptions of the world through creativity. Students can participate in productions in the renowned Hannon Theatre Company, perform in concert with the music department, create a film for our annual film festival or build a portfolio of exceptional visual AP Studio Art to be submitted to the AP Board for review. Fun, fast-paced and intense, Loyola’s arts program readies students for the rigors of a college-level art environment.
