client spotlight Bellevue University’s El Camino Latino Center Connects Students to Careers Through Community Partnerships When Gina Ponce decided she wanted to open Bellevue University’s El Camino Latino Center, she had two goals in mind: Serve incoming and current Latino students and their families and connect them directly with community business partners. Ponce, who has been in Omaha, NE for over 30 years serving the Latino community, is the director of El Camino Latino Center. For many years a Latino center was just an idea, but that idea came to light last August when El Camino Latino Center opened inside the Freeman/Lozier Library on the campus of Bellevue University, 1028 Bruin Blvd. “El Camino translates to ‘the road’ and we believe it represents a path forward that will change the way the university supports and engages with Latino students,” Ponce said. To provide that path forward, the Center’s focus is to connect Latino students to career counseling, workforce opportunities with employers in Bellevue and Omaha, financial aid and academic advising, and more so they can achieve their education goals and find the career of their dreams.

#PrintProudDigitalSmart

What makes the Center unique is how it connects future and current students to its business partners. Each local business employer partner has a physical office space on campus in the Center where students can learn about various opportunities like internships and career options across several industries. El Camino Latino Center currently partners with six organizations including Omaha Bridges, Mundo Latino Newspaper, Heartland Workforce Center, U.S. Bank, Women on a Mission for Change, and Goodwill Industries. Each partner serves as a connection for students to meet professionals where they can learn about various opportunities and careers.

Moises Saucedo, the Center’s college experience coach, also helps to ensure Latino students who attend Bellevue University excel. In his position, he oversees outreach of future students and helps facilitate their journey from start to finish to ensure they’re successful at Bellevue University. He also connects students to the right opportunities with the Center’s business partners.

“We provide partners with office space so they can be closer to the students,” Saucedo said. “Connecting our students to the right people and opportunities while providing a great support system through Bellevue University’s El Camino Latino Center allows students to develop their skills through mentorship and real“We give incoming students and current world experiences which propels them to students the support they need to be be excellent future leaders.” really successful when they’re at Bellevue University,” Ponce said. “The Center For more information about El Camino provides additional support in the form of Latino Center and how you can become mentoring, networking events, conferences, a business partner, contact Director of and through connecting students with El Camino Latino Center Gina Ponce at different employment opportunities. LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

PAIGE ZUTAVERN - Omaha/Lincoln - President (402) 730-0096 | Paige@StrictlyBusinessOmaha.com

let’s get physical! No, I’m not talking about Olivia Newton-John’s song that took over every group fitness class in the 80s—I’m talking about physical advertising. Print media. Tangible marketing. Of course, as the owner of two print publications, I’m an advocate for print advertising, but do you know who else supports print advertising? Science! That’s right, there is scientific research that reveals how the human brain interacts with advertising, and it doesn’t all favor digital marketing as some may assume. I stand behind online and social media advertising— there is definitely a need for it and it’s effective—Strictly Business has a very strong presence online and on social media ourselves! But no marketer should ignore the fact that print still carries its weight in the game. For some marketing goals, print is actually more effective.

ads triggered activity in the area of the brain (ventral striatum) that is responsible for value and desirability for featured products, which can signal a greater intent to purchase.” That’s what our ads are for right? Creating awareness and, ultimately, selling our products/services. I think it’s great to have this knowledge when making marketing decisions. There are a lot of companies that have subscribed to the school of thought that print is dead and that just simply isn’t true. Print is strong and effective.

“companies that want to generate a more accurate memory of an ad, for better recall during a purchase, would be served best by physical ads.”

A couple of years ago, Temple University gathered consumer neuroscience researchers for a study conducted with the U.S. Post Office, and they found significant differences in the way our brains process print ads vs. digital ads. According to a blog post by Neuroscience Marketing (www.neurosciencemarketing.com) breaking down the results of the study, here was the main takeaway from the synopsis of the study: Though digital ads were processed quicker, after a week, subjects showed greater emotional response and memory for physical media ads. The physical ads caused more activity in brain areas associated with value and desire, meaning a stronger chance of purchasing.

“When viewing physical ads, participants had a stronger emotional response and remembered them better. Physical ads, though slower to get one’s attention at first exposure, leave a longer-lasting impact for easy recall when making a purchase decision. Most importantly, physical

According to the study, “digital ads may provide a cost effective option for companies that are trying to get consumers’ attention to quickly understand a marketing message. However, companies that want to generate a more accurate memory of an ad, for better recall during a purchase, would be served best by physical ads.”

Strictly Business is proud to be in print and online, and we are active on social media as well. When a business advertises with us, they are putting their branding in front of our large local audience in a meaningful and MEMORABLE way. I’d love to tell you about how easy we make it for our clients by taking care of the ad design and professional writing for them, if they need it, at no extra cost. Mercury Builders chooses centris Federal credit Union as preferred lender Centris Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce a new preferred lending partnership with Mercury Builders, an Omahabased firm specializing in custom built homes. Mercury is the latest to join a group of home builders who have a lending relationship with the credit union. Chloe Hamel, mortgage loan originator for Centris, said that the path to having a dream home just got easier for those wanting to build in the Omaha metro area. “With the many mortgage financing options available from Centris, this partnership pairs our lending expertise with the building expertise of Mercury Builders,” Hamel said. “We are really excited about being able to assist their clients and ensure that we continue our Centris tradition of closing on time, every time.” Hamel added that with Centris’ rate lock program, buyers have a greater benefit by having the mortgage with Centris: “It’s really a win-win situation for buyers because it allows them to lock their rate for up to a year with a guaranteed, free, one-time option to lower the rate if interest rates decrease. This additional peace of mind means buyers do not have to worry about whether or not they can afford their dream home by the time it is finished being built. Mercury Builders was started in 1992 by Jeff Gehring and in 2005 the business grew with the addition of Ed Bueno who helped the company grow from refurbishing houses to general contracting on residential and commercial projects in eastern Nebraska. greater omaha chamber Develops Workforce with Focused programs The Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce announced February 1 the successful results of their premier workforce development programs: The Commitment to Opportunity, Diversity and Equity (CODE), and the Greater Omaha Worklab (GROW). Greater Omaha garnered headlines across the region for its nation-low unemployment. However, this achievement also placed the spotlight firmly on challenges around talent availability. The Greater Omaha Chamber’s Commitment to Opportunity, Diversity and Equity (CODE) grew their Employer Coalition to 99 members. This coalition is designed to help organizations on their DEI journeys, creating a more diverse and inclusive workforce. In 2021, the Chamber focused on adding more engagement opportunities and creating materials to support these journals. The program also added an educational series to help individuals and organizations deepen their understanding of focused DEI topics. The Greater Omaha Worklab (GROW), another workforce development program of the Greater Omaha Chamber, had a notable year. This program places Navigators in employer-client workplaces, providing independent, third-party assistance to employees. By the end of 2021, these Navigators met with 754 employees, providing resources and support that helped them handle their day-to-day challenges, organize their personal and professional lives, and pursue their dreams. This individual support keeps employees engaged and able to bring their whole self to work. This year, the Chamber placed Navigators at 10 employer-clients, expanding their total impact on the Omaha workforce. The mission of the Greater Omaha Chamber is to champion a thriving business community and a prosperous region through visionary leadership and collaboration. new Mobile App, tippl helps Bars and Restaurants Recover from coViD Tippl, a new mobile app created to help bars and restaurants recover from COVID, has partnered with local establishments that allow people who download and subscribe to the app the ability to redeem a free alcoholic beverage when visiting. In just the first year of the pandemic, the National Restaurant Association reported that roughly 110,000 U.S. eating and drinking establishments closed their businesses. So, during the height of the first outbreak, a group of local friends came together to solve this problem – the answer was tipple. Tipple is a word not often used today, meaning “a drink”, or “to drink moderately but regularly”. The founders of Tippl, tipple without the “e”, a new Omaha mobile app, believe that offering a free alcoholic beverage could motivate people to adventure out to support local bars and restaurants. Tippl’s services allow for the redemption of one alcoholic beverage per user per day and twice per month at the same location. This unique approach generates new customers, increases frequency of visits, and promotes a fun experience. “We want to make sure to safely promote these services,” said Taylor Darlington, co-founder. “Tippl is an app for people, 21 years of age or older, to redeem an alcoholic beverage. It remains the responsibility of each affiliate-location to verify the age of persons attempting to redeem an alcoholic beverage.” “Let’s be reminded of a time when togetherness, comradery, friendship, and support were everyday occurrences,” said Mark Wong, co-founder. “Tippl is simple too,” said Matt Moore, co-founder. “All you have to do is choose a location, show Tippl to your server, and tap to redeem your drink.” If you find Tippl’s mission compelling, learn more at tippldrinking.com or join the adventure by downloading the app and then go grab a drink! #PrintProudDigitalSmart

Tell us a little about your family. - I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 35 years. We have four children that make us proud parents every day. My family is the most important part of my life and the time I get to spend with them is precious. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - The month I finished my two-year degree to become an electrician I needed back surgery. This made me question my construction based career decision, and I took another path to electronics/computers. It actually worked out well in hindsight.

STEVE

Steve Beck

WE ARE the Solution to Your Collection Needs.

HUFFMAN ENGINEERING, INC. Meet Steve Beck, a senior engineer at Huffman Engineering, Inc. Tell us a little about your business. - Huffman Engineering, Inc. designs and installs custom engineered control systems for manufacturing and utility customers in Nebraska, Colorado, and surrounding states. How did you get started in the business? - I followed in my dad’s footsteps. He worked in the control systems engineering field for over 30 years. I also learned computer programming as a kid. After college, I worked for the Omaha Public Power District at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant until it closed in 2016. Leaving the nuclear industry was a difficult decision but transitioning to controls engineering felt like a natural choice due to the exposure from my childhood. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - When I transitioned to a new line of work in 2016, I had an immense amount of self-doubt about my ability to meet expectations in my new role. To overcome that, I set several goals for myself revolving around learning things related to the new job, including becoming a licensed professional engineer, among other training courses. What has been your most important achievement professionally? - I believe my biggest achievement is the relationships and friendships I’ve built with my customers and coworkers. Sure, I’ve completed several successful projects, but having good relationships with the people I’m working with has certainly made it feel easier to have success in projects, and it makes my job that much more enjoyable. Tell us a little about your family. - My wife Andrea and I live in the Keystone neighborhood in Omaha and we have two children, Simon (7) and Alex (3). As a family, we enjoy hiking and the outdoors and like to vacation in the mountains of Colorado. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - When I was 17, I had intended to enlist in the Marine Corps after high school. That year, 2001, the events of September 11 brought an immense pool of volunteers to join the military. Shortly after that day, I was involved in a car accident that badly injured my left leg and required an implant to repair. The combination of the implant with the higher-than-normal interest in military enlistment resulted in being unable to enlist in the military. I shifted my focus to applying to colleges. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - I enjoy working on cars. Troubleshooting and repairing problems I feel is like solving a puzzle, and it feels good to see the results when I finish a repair. I also spend a lot of time learning about photography, with lightning as my favorite subject. I also enjoy smoking meat and rock climbing. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I have a collection of locks and safes and have been teaching lock picking for several years. Which talent would you most like to have? - I would really like to be able to weld. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Commercial real estate. What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I work with City Impact in Lincoln to improve their Gifts of Love program during the Christmas season. I truly believe in their mission and the methodology behind the program. I also donate money and supplies to the Open Door Mission in Omaha for the important and life-saving work they do for the homeless community in Omaha. UNICO GROUP

Meet Reagan Rodenburg, an employee benefits advisor at UNICO Group. Tell us a little about your business. - We are a client-focused, full-service, independent insurance agency. In my role, I work with employers to develop and manage employee benefit programs that fit the specific needs of their company and employees. How did you get started in the business? - After working as an in-house claims attorney at Fidelity National Title Group for two years, I wanted to find a way to combine my legal expertise in the insurance field with my desire to work with people in my community. UNICO Group proved to be the perfect intersect.

For more information give us a call at (402) 493-4747 Or visit us at SeeTheTrainer.com

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The increasing cost of healthcare and the current labor shortage. Employers are working harder than ever to attract and retain top talent. I work closely with my clients to make benefits as affordable as possible for their employees and explore customized solutions to round out their employee benefit packages. Tell us a little about your family. - My husband, Max, and I met at the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2016. We got married in September of 2020 and enjoy spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, and traveling. Some of our favorite adventures include biking the Katy Trail in Missouri, exploring National Parks in Utah and Arizona, and traveling to Montenegro, Croatia, Mexico, Vietnam, and Hawaii. We plan to explore Turkey in May. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? Passing the Nebraska Bar Exam. Ever since I was in elementary school, I wanted to go to law school and be able to call myself an attorney. After completing 19 years of education, spending countless hours studying, and pushing my mind to new limits, passing the bar was the final step in achieving an almost lifelong goal. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Working on home projects and organizing our house sparks immense joy for me, sometimes to the dismay of my husband! What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I have my black belt in Taekwondo. What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - It’s a three-way tie between “Comparison is the thief of joy.”; “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”; and “Always have something to look forward to.” If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Loyal. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Construction. I always thought it would be fulfilling to be a contractor or a house flipper because you regularly get to see something transform right in front of your eyes and get to be a part of something from beginning to end. What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Big Brothers Big Sisters. I have been a Big for over eight years and currently sit on the board of directors. Studies show that children who have role models are more likely to improve in school and in their relationships with family and friends, and less likely to skip school or use illegal drugs. My Little has given me great perspective and a lifelong friendship. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? Vision Maker Media Announces national premiere of Bring her home in March Vision Maker Media (VMM) encourages you to check your local PBS listings for the premiere national broadcast of Bring Her Home when celebrating Women’s History Month in March. Bring Her Home follows three Indigenous women – an artist, an activist, and a politician – as they fight to vindicate and honor their missing and murdered relatives who have fallen victims to a growing epidemic across Indian country. Despite the lasting effects from historical trauma, each woman must search for healing while navigating racist systems that brought about this very crisis. Vision Maker Media produces documentary films for PBS broadcasting and is the premier source of public media by and about Native Americans since 1976. Their mission is empowering and engaging Native people to share stories. They envision a world changed and healed by understanding Native stories and the public conversations they generate. They work with VMM funded producers to develop, produce, and distribute programs for all public media. Commercial construction The construction industry plays an important role in the economy. When the economy begins to slow down, the construction industry often feels the effects first – but when there is a strong demand for new construction, it’s an indicator the economy is on the right path. Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, such as skyrocketing prices on building materials, major supply chain issues, and labor shortages, the construction industry persevered. According to ConstructConnect, it is estimated that total put-in-place for 2021 was around $1.57 trillion, an increase of 6.8% from the previous year, and they are expecting 2022 to have a 6.6% increase in putin-place to $1.67 trillion (construction put-in-place is the estimated total dollar value of construction work done in the United States). Are you ready to start from scratch with a new office building? Maybe you aren’t prepared to build a new office, but are interested in renovating an existing building. Regardless of the route you want to take, Omaha has many knowledgeable and experienced contractors that can help you create the most efficient and effective workplace. Construction Preparation A great deal of preparation must be done beforehand when starting a commercial construction project. redbox+ of Omaha makes project planning easy by helping you take care of two essential items through one contractor. The company provides their Standard commercial roll-off construction containers in both 20 and 30 yard sizes, as well as Elite containers that come with two port-a-potties mounted to the front of the container for an all-inone system. No more tipped or blown over port-a-potties on your job site! “With our Elite container, you no longer have employees leaving the job site for bathroom breaks, keeping them on task and doing their job more efficiently,” explained redbox+ of Omaha President Mark Fredrickson. “Our containers have been on numerous projects around the metro area. They are beautiful, bright red containers that give the job site a professional look.” Another added benefit to the Elite containers is the free advertising component that Mark Fredrickson comes with it. The front of these containers is redbox+ of omaha essentially an 8x8 bright red billboard, and redbox+ can create a magnet with your company’s information to be placed on the front of these containers for the duration of the project. “Our Elite container is patent and something you can only find with redbox+ of Omaha,” explained Mark. “We can eliminate the headache of having to call for two services. One call, one invoice, and the quality of service you deserve.” Over 60 Years of Design and Construction Experience Established in 1958, Dean Snyder Construction (DSC) has handled all manners of commercial construction projects across the Midwest, from bringing a new concept for Fareway Stores, Inc. in the form of the Meat Market to Omaha and wellness expansions to the meat processing facilities around town. DSC provides design and construction services to the private and public markets, including education, food service and restaurants, financial, government and civil, office buildings, religious facilities, and Kolton Wagaman retail. They are proud to offer in-house architects, enabling them to address any Dean snyder construction issues that arise immediately to keep the project on schedule, as well as pre-engineered buildings. Preengineered building is a functional, attractive, and cost-effective solution, and they can often be constructed faster than a traditional structure. Senior Project Manager Kolton Wagaman told us about another great feature that is new to DSC. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

“DSC is excited to now own a 3D scanning laser,” said Kolton. “Laser scanning is a method of high-accuracy mapping that uses laser beams to quickly capture complete detail of an entire building construction project – much like a camera taking a 360-degree photo, but with an accurate position for every detail. Scanning all components as they are installed on a project can provide a time-lapse record with millimeter accuracy data on pipes, HVAC, structural steel, floors, and floor slopes. When used throughout the entire construction project, the new facility will have as-built documentation, creating a record of what is behind the walls, above the ceilings, and under the floor slabs. This can be utilized as the building is managed, maintained, and renovated.” Before he was a project manager, it was mandatory for Kolton to work successfully in the field, something that DSC requires as part of their true-builder approach with team members. This field experience gives team members valuable knowledge for their future responsibilities, as well as an opportunity to grow relationships with the crews in the field and build trust for the future projects they will one day oversee. With any business, there are trials, and Kolton explained that the construction industry is seeing challenges even greater now than when the pandemic started two years ago. Dealing with very long lead times from supply chain issues and rising material prices has been a challenge, but DSC has been helping companies through these difficult times. They encourage prospective builders to start the conversation soon so that their team can navigate through scheduling needs and pricing to deliver the best project in the most efficient way possible. “We’ve also seen an increase on the commercial construction side of existing remodels/retrofits,” Kolton shared. “DSC can get creative with our design-build approach and deliver clients some relief in the form of remodels to fit their current needs until certain building lead times become more reasonable and new building construction can begin.” DSC employs approximately 230 people, and their team has an average tenure that is higher than the U.S. median years of tenure in the construction industry. The company recently extended ownership to their employees, rewarding them for their contribution to the company’s growth and success through the years with the creation of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). “We are open-book and transparent,” Kolton concluded. “We value being honest, loyal, and reliable to our clients, construction partners, and subcontractors. We pride ourselves on having a skilled team of professional engineers, registered architects, field supervisors, estimators, and tradespeople, backed by a company with over 60 years of construction industry knowledge and experience.” Engineering Excellence Huffman Engineering, Inc. is a startto-finish engineering firm specializing in automation controls and control systems integration. They work with industrial manufacturing plants like pharmaceuticals and life sciences, food and beverage companies, and material handling and packaging organizations, as well as utilities including water, wastewater, electrical, and gas companies to make their ideas work. Huffman will design and program automation systems using the howard huffman latest technology to meet a need to bring huffman engineering, inc. more efficiency, higher productivity, and better safety in a manufacturing plant or to deliver safe, clean water or energy to the residents of a populated area. We spoke to President and Founder Howard Huffman to learn about some of the projects the company has been working on. “We have been working with The City of Omaha for several years on their CSO project to purify the city’s wastewater,” began Howard. “We have worked with MUD on two initiatives; to help heat Omaha using natural gas and allowing the residents of Omaha to be #PrintProudDigitalSmart

secure knowing their drinking water is clean and safe, ensuring the infrastructure is put in place to keep it that way for decades to come. We were also very proud to be the system integrator called in to help with the 2019 Nebraska floods and help get the systems back on track during that devastating time.” Huffman has helped to heat and cool Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln and has brought world-class productivity to one of the most common medical pain relievers in the world. Their Colorado office replaced the Eisenhower Tunnel ventilation systems controls to make them safe and secure for every passenger traveling across the main arterial in the Midwest for a ski vacation or cross-country trip. Lately, Huffman has been hearing a lot about networking, cybersecurity, sustainability, and robotics. As companies make decisions to plan for upgrades within their production and utility systems, the good news is that all of these incredibly important topics can be planned for at the same time. While there may be a phased approach to implementation, their engineers have their eye on how the latest technologies can really help expedite all of those goals within a system upgrade. Howard also mentioned that automation is in high demand these days, especially due to the shortage of skilled workers available. “We will only see this increase combined with the cybersecurity safeguards we can implement in industrial and utility facilities,” Howard said. “Even companies who have been hesitant to take on an upgrade of their facility are now seeing the wisdom in planning for upgrades rather than be a target of an unplanned shutdown that could cost millions of dollars a day.” Huffman Engineering was recently named the 2022 System Integrator of the Year by Control Engineering and Plan Engineering magazine. They’ve also been CSIA certified by the Control Systems Integration Association since 2005, the first and now one of only two CSIA certified engineering firms in the state.

“We solve highly complex issues on a large scale every day and pride ourselves on providing the professional development and training to our engineers and technicians to keep them up to speed on the latest software and hardware developments,” concluded Howard. “Most importantly, we provide extreme value to our customers and see ourselves as an extension of their team, building lasting partnerships to help them achieve and sustain excellence.” Building Structures and Relationships As a 100% employee-owned firm, you can be assured that Cheever Construction will deliver on their promises. In terms of commercial construction projects, Cheever Construction has seen high demand throughout all sectors of the industry, including retail, manufacturing, education, and medical. However, the largest demand is coming from inside the industry. “The biggest demand we see as a construction company is workforce and supply chain,” explained President Justin Kurtzer. “Workforce is in high demand for all sectors of our industry. With supply chain challenges, extensive pre-planning and creativity in material selections are solutions Justin Kurtzer that we, as a construction manager, have to cheever construction provide insight on for our projects.”

Cheever Construction approaches each project with consistent objectives for success. They utilize an effective schedule coupled with the quality and skill from their subcontractors, combined with their field craftsmen. Their goal with each project is to make it the precursor to the “next” project, all while building a lasting relationship with everyone involved. “Our team is grateful for all of our clients and projects,” said Justin. “One of our current projects is the new Lincoln Public Schools athletic complexes at the two new high schools. The facilities will provide competition fields for football, soccer, softball, baseball, and tennis. We are excited to be working on this project and helping to improve our community.” Bring Buildings to Life Farris Engineering is an employee-owned building design firm that specializes in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and commissioning services. Their roots date back to 1967, and they’ve completed over 33,000 projects in more than 42 states. Electrical Engineer Derek Brooks, PE, LC offered some more insight into what Farris can do for commercial construction. “With the growth of 3D modeling tec hnology, we have implemented a Derek Brooks few different programs that allow us to Farris engineering visualize the built environment before it is constructed,” explained Derek. “This provides us with increased coordination abilities and allows our clients, in addition to the design team, to see how the building functions and flows to meet goals and characteristics that are unique to each building project.” Derek is currently involved in the renovation of a historical courthouse that was built in 1938. Farris has been working closely with the owner and architect to update the building to modern technologies and implementing current energy efficiency strategies. He explained that the design and construction aspect are heavily revolved around adapting and modifying building aspects to meet the current needs and goals of the owner and maintaining important historical features, all while dealing with the surprises and unique characteristics of a building with this age. Energy efficiency is a popular demand beyond the historical building, too; with rising material and utility costs, Derek said there has been an ever-increasing demand for building energy efficiency and lower energy consumption, as well as increased material sustainability. “Farris Engineering is a valued partner that provides innovative and project-specific solutions for those who want the best for their building,” Derek said. “This allows our clients to have the freedom to go beyond the standard and not be constrained by convention, because we share their vision for excellence through our technical expertise and unwavering dedication to quality, service, and longterm partnership. We don’t just make buildings function; we bring buildings to life through our designs.” Environmentally-Friendly Buildings As the leading control technology contractor in Nebraska and Iowa, Engineered Controls offers a complete turnkey building-control solution, including system design, new construction, and owner-direct retrofit sales, installation, repair service, and preventive maintenance work for small buildings. “We live in an era in which buildings of any size and shape can become intelligent buildings,” said Pat Killeen, president and CEO. “With open protocol technology, they can connect multiple subsystems together, on one network, rather than operating them all independently— maximizing energy efficiency, lowering maintenance costs, and providing centralized building control.” It’s becoming more and more common for a building to have one central location to control all lighting, heating, cooling, and security functions, including outdoor controls and elevator controls. Not only is this incredibly convenient, but if you want your company’s building to go green, this is also essential. “Our Energy and Environmental Optimization, or EEO, program certified professionals are equipped with the training, tools, and experience to quickly assess your building’s current state and consult with you on the goals and objectives of your energy efficiency project,” explained Pat. “Our EEO professionals participate in a rigorous training program learning how to guide building owners and managers through a structured process of analysis and discovery. Leveraging the unique EEO toolset, they will partner with you to develop the right solution for your building. Engineered Controls’ EEO program software identifies poorly performing buildings and then provides and automates corrective actions. Their EEO certified professionals can help accelerate implementation of the most popular energy conservation measures to optimize your facility. Control Depot works hand-in-hand with Engineered Controls to provide them with the parts and products they need to carry out their work. From their start in 2006, Control Depot has now progressed to being one of the leading Honeywell distributors in the nation. Honeywell is well-known throughout its 128-year history as a leader in temperature controls. As a two-step distribution channel, Control Depot is proud to offer the products and innovations that have made Honeywell a trusted partner in the industry.

“Control Depot’s primary goal is to offer the necessary systems and replacement parts that will provide a safe, comfortable working environment, as well as cut wasteful energy costs,” Vice President Jeff Killeen said. “We are helping companies become more sustainable and improving their bottom lines.” As a Honeywell-Authorized Systems Distributor, Control Depot offers a full-line of Honeywell commercial and residential products to fulfill any HVAC controls or Jeff Killeen security needs. From a simple thermostat to control Depot a complex web-based building automation system, you can find it at Control Depot. a single source for the whole building envelop package. We spoke to Business Development Manager TwiLea Fletcher, who told us that Stonebrook has been seeing an increase in requests for repurposing existing buildings. “Owners and investors are recognizing that giving the building exterior the attention it needs will lengthen the duration of the structure and bring it up-to-date for a more professional look,” said TwiLea. “Sustainable exterior wall and roofing systems will also lower the cost for strategic ownership.” Among recent projects, Stonebrook Exterior provided the elements for multi-story office buildings in the Omaha area, including the Baxter Building, Waterford Office, The Breakers, Nove Apartments in Little Italy, The Yard, and Morrison Stadium, plus Plaza on the Green, The Brook, Hudl, and Lionberger Veterinary Clinic in Lincoln. They perform extensive customer-needs analysis for each project with which they are engaged, taking every opportunity and consider all the aspects of what the customer wants, needs, and has budgeted. “Our reputation has been built from our unyielding commitment to excellence, which is evident in the areas of safety, productivity, and workmanship,” TwiLea said. “We pride ourselves on our innovative management style. We will service your needs with a highly proficient, safety-oriented, and cost-efficient management team who is ready to meet your goals and objectives.” Restoration Services When it comes to concrete and masonry repair, restoration, and construction, McGill Restoration is on the job. From highway surface treatment and parking-garage repairs to industrial painting and masonry repair, they’re ready to help you with just about any construction need. They follow a proven process for each job to ensure that they deliver consistent, high-quality results to all customers. “When it comes to restoration, research is key,” said Estimator and Project Manager Jennifer Loukota. “Researching the building, the materials, and the best techniques is essential to providing a beautifully restored building or project. When it comes to the planning and execution of a project, we want to offer our expertise. Most companies know the finer points of new construction, but McGill understands the intricacies of restoration.” In 2021, McGill expanded operations Jennifer loukota through their purc hase of Wilkinson Mcgill Restoration S a n d b l a s t i n g, a c e n t ra l - N eb ra s k a industrial coating and restoration outfit, and Commercial Waterproofing, a concrete waterproofing business with offices in Oklahoma City and Wagoner, OK. The combination of skill sets between McGill Restoration and the newly acquired businesses means that the company can offer outstanding year-round, scalable restoration services. McGill is excited to bring the full package of large-scale restoration capabilities that they offer into the Oklahoma market. Jennifer concluded by explaining that restoration requires an indepth understanding of a structure’s history and details. Researching the building, the materials, and the best techniques is essential to providing a beautifully restored project. “Asking the right questions helps you plan properly: When was it built? What is it going to be used for in the future?” Jennifer explained. “These questions will provide a lot of answers to the type of materials that must be used in its restoration. When it comes to the planning and execution of a project, consulting with industry experts alleviates a lot of headaches.” Contractors You Can Count On Every part of building construction is crucial to the overall project success and completion, and that includes what’s inside the walls, floors, and ceilings. your electrical work. Owner Chris Langer has over 15 years of experience in the industry, and it’s important to him to help businesses strategize their energy needs and upgrades, with an eye toward increasing efficiency and reducing monthly electric bills for the long term. He keeps up with all codes and employeesafety regulations to ensure that your building’s electrical system is truly safe and sound. “Commercial construction offers tremendous opportunities for business owners, but it’s important to know all of the rules and chris langer opportunities,” Chris said. “As you plan your langer electric business space, Langer Electric can provide estimates for everything from fixture installation to panel updates, camera installation, repairs, maintenance, and pretty much anything electrical.” Langer Electric has provided repair, maintenance, and installation services to commercial and residential clients, receiving an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Chris strives to bring a level of comfort that feels as though you’re working with family, as well as a different level of customer satisfaction to the trade, which he says is hard to find these days. When performing electric work for a commercial construction project, he believes preparation and communication are key to making the job successful. “I make sure everything on my end is lined up with materials, labor, and communication between trades. We don’t EVER want to be the ones holding up a project,” he explained. This includes establishing a relationship with inspectors for construction projects. “My main concern with any project is making sure everything is completely in line with what the inspector wants. It doesn’t help anyone to butt heads with the one who ultimately calls the shots in the end. You have to be mindful of what exactly the inspector expects because each individual is different.” Don’t let your coworkers and employees get left in the cold! Ideal Heating & Air Conditioning is a leading commercial HVAC

company in the Omaha area. They install, service, and repair all commercial makes and models, and they can supply you with Rheem products; Rheem is currently the only manufacturer in the world that produces heating, cooling, water heating, pool and spa heating, and commercial refrigeration products. Owner Corwin Keller emphasizes providing quality service and educating their clients. “Informed decisions are good decisions,” said Corwin. “We want our clients to feel corwin Keller confident we are qualified to perform the ideal heating & service for which they are hiring us. Our Air conditioning clients need to focus on their business and their own work. When they rely on us, we can help them keep their focus there.” There are multiple options for commercial HVAC systems, and the type of system you will have relies on many factors, such as the building layout. Low-height facilities with plenty of rooftop space tend to favor packaged rooftop units with variable-air-volume (VAV) systems. Meanwhile, multi-story buildings often opt for the use of chillers, which transfer heat away from a space that needs climate control using water instead of air, or water-source heat pumps, which reject heat in the cooling cycle through a cooling tower loop that is piped through the building. “Whatever system you ultimately have, it should be durable and efficient for your building needs,” concluded Corwin. “We know how unstable the Nebraska climate can be, so we want to make sure you are always feeling ideal with our HVAC systems.” Constructing a commercial building consists of critical details and decisions that can be made simple with the help of local experts. We encourage you to reach out to these Omaha professionals today to get started on building your next great project!

Greenlife Gardens chose to use Linctrac almost 10 years ago because he was local and we could actually talk to someone we knew lived in the area. Kelly is always willing to meet us at our office or where we need him and always answers his phone which is a bonus nowadays. It is very easy to use and follow our trucks. The gps system has increased our efficiencies and help solve many problems when needed. The price for the GPS systems is always competitive and we have never found anybody to beat his prices and service. He personally drives out to the vehicle and changes out the GPS system whenever we buy a new truck. Kelly has built his business on relationships and cares about the clients he works with and this is why we appreciate LincTrack!”
