LincTrack GPS Solutions

Offering Fleet Management Solutions for Over 10 Years! Do high fleet operation costs have you racking your brain for a solution? There’s an answer to fleet operation problems, such as high fuel expenses, untracked job time, and long idle times at LincTrack GPS Solutions. LincTrack is a national company that sells fleet management GPS solutions, and is recognized as the largest GPS supplier in the Midwest. LincTrack’s services allow business owners to monitor where their employees are when they are driving company vehicles. This helps them to better manage their fleets and save money through fuel savings, lower insurance costs, improved routing inefficiencies, and reduced vehicle wear and tear or unauthorized usage. GPS tracking also helps increase driver safety and helps managers detail the exact amount of time spent on a job. “Our products give business owners the ability to look up the current location and position history of their fleet, receive speed and landmark alerts when driving, track job times, and enjoy other extensive reporting features,” shared Owner Kelly Jensen, who celebrated 10 years in business in November 2021. “Installation is easy and can be done in under 10 minutes in most vehicles.” LincTrack uses 4G integrated products, including 4K dash cams with AI that detects driver behavior and accident recovery footage from the vehicle. In addition to offering their services in the Omaha and Lincoln areas, LincTrack has acquired wireless companies in St. Louis, MO and Mount Olive, NJ, allowing them to offer nationwide sales and support.

Read what local businesses have to say about LincTrack “Greenlife Gardens chose to use LincTrack almost 10 years ago because he was local and we could actually talk to someone we knew lived in the area. Kelly is always willing to meet us at our office or where we need him and always answers his phone which is a bonus nowadays. It is very easy to use and follow our trucks. The GPS system has increased our efficiencies and helps solve many problems when needed. The price for the GPS systems is always competitive and we have never found anybody to beat his prices and service. He personally drives out to the vehicle and changes out the GPS system whenever we buy a new truck. Kelly has built his business on relationships and cares about the clients he works with and this is why we appreciate LincTrack!” ‒ Chad, Greenlife Gardens “I always know where my trucks are by using LincTrack. Kelly is awesome to work with and always willing to help things run smoothly for my business.” ‒ VP Tim Ronk, Blackbelt Movers

Advertise Your Business as a Great Place to Work If you’ve tried to hire in the past year, you know that the market is extremely competitive right now. I’ve spoken to many businesses owners who are frustrated by how hard it is to find good people to hire. There has been a big shift in recruiting and hiring trends, so businesses are figuring out how to set themselves apart in order to attract the best talent. When you’re interviewing someone, you have to realize that you’re being interviewed too. Today’s professionals are harder to please. Whether we like it or not, they are entering the workforce with a lot higher expectations for their employers. They are hungry for a supportive and thriving culture, tasks that allow them to grow professionally and personally, competitive pay so they can live comfortably and take care of their families, a flexible work schedule for when emergencies arise, a mission they can really get behind, leadership that encourages community involvement and volunteerism, and much more. You can offer all of these benefits, but how will people know if you don’t tell them? You have to advertise. You have to tell your story. You have to invest in recruitment marketing. Recruitment marketing means promoting your organization and your culture in addition to specific job openings. I love the way Entrepreneur Media put it in a previous article they published on employer branding: “Organizations that want to win the war for talent should not only aspire to become a great place to work; they should aim to be perceived as one too.” The difference between recruiting and recruitment marketing is that, through marketing, you are bringing the talent to you rather than you shuffling through a list of potential employees on sites like Indeed or LinkedIn. I’m not saying don’t use these sites to promote your job opportunities—these recruitment efforts are absolutely still necessary. I’m saying that recruitment marketing will take you further and help you stand out.

This is what Strictly Business helps you accomplish through advertising. Advertising with Strictly Business is so much more than just running an ad. You’re working with a real team that is committed to local business. We value putting a face to the name. You can see this in the magazine through all the amazing free, valued-added editorial we offer. Whether it’s a press release, feature story, or River City Six, our goal is to help your audience make a personal connection with your organization. When you host a company appreciation event or you’re recognizing a new hire or a promotion, you’re painting a picture of what it’s like to work at your business. You’re showing the audience that you celebrate your people! In addition, our quarterly employment features gives local businesses and organizations a space to share why someone would want to work for them. Just by participating, it shows the audience that these companies value not only being a great place to work, but also being perceived as a great place to work. In this issue, you’ll find our Employing Omaha feature. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with these awesome businesses and organizations! Maybe you or someone you know is looking for a new career. Put these businesses and organizations at the top of your lists. If your company is hiring, I invite you to be in our next employment feature in the May 2022 issue or talk to me about advertising in general. People are the biggest asset to your company. You have to have the right people working for you if you want your business to thrive. So don’t slack on efforts when it comes to reaching and winning over those people. With that, I’ll leave you with a hiring quote I enjoy from David Ogilvy, founder of Ogilvy & Mather: “If each of us hires people who are smaller than we are, we shall become a company of dwarfs. But if each of us hires people who are bigger than we are, we shall become a company of giants.”

“Organizations that want to win the war for talent should not only aspire to become a great place to work; they should aim to be perceived as one too.”

Let Strictly Business help you lock in your status as THE EXPERT in your industry, utilizing our print, online, and social media strategies. Find out how by contact Paige at (402) 466-3330.

Commercial Restoration and Preservation Done Right McGill Restoration has come a long way since 1985. In 1985, Tim McGill Sr. had a successful painting business. When Tim McGill, Jr. decided to follow in his father’s entrepreneurial footsteps, he made masonry repair and restoration his company’s primary focus. McGill Restoration started there and soon expanded into concrete work, parking garage rehabilitation and construction, infrastructure and bridge repair, and stadium renovations. Thirty-six years later, Tim Jr. and the team of craftsmen at McGill Restoration have repaired, restored, or rebuilt everything from 100-year-old masonry buildings and stone monuments to key interstate systems. The company boasts four consecutive Inc. 5000 Awards as one of the fastest-growing privately-owned companies in the United States. Now, McGill Restoration will expand its operations even further with two new acquisitions.

In 2021, McGill restoration purchased Wilkinson Sandblasting, a central-Nebraska industrial coating and restoration outfit, and Commercial Waterproofing, a concrete waterproofing business with offices in Oklahoma City and Wagoner, OK. The combination of skill sets between McGill restoration and the newly acquired businesses means that the company can offer outstanding yearround, scalable restoration services. Why acquire these companies, and why now? Tim McGill Jr., president of McGill Restoration, says it was simply the right time—and the Oklahoma market needs a skilled restoration partner. “We’d already grown so much in the Omaha and Lincoln areas, and had a great reputation for quality work, which meant that we were able to capture lots of projects. We were ready to grow beyond the work we were successfully getting, and Oklahoma is a perfect fit. We are excited to bring the full package of large-scale restoration capabilities that we offer to this market,” said McGill Jr. This growth into new markets will also allow McGill Restoration to offer a wider range of year-round job opportunities to their expanded team of skilled laborers and craftsmen. “Both the Wilkinson Industrial and the Commercial Waterproofing teams have the talent and experience that complement what McGill Restoration has to offer,” McGill Jr. said. “We’re excited about what the future has in store.” McGill Restoration is the Midwest’s industry leader in concrete and masonry repair, restoration, and construction. From highway surface treatment and parking garage repairs to industrial painting to historic masonry repair, McGill Restoration prides itself on having the right team, equipment, and expertise to provide an exceptional experience for any restoration project. MUSE Design Program Recognizes DLR Group and Kimpton Cottonwood for Interior Design The MUSE Design Program has selected DLR Group, the design firm for the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel in Omaha, as the recipient of one Platinum Award (Renovation) and three Gold Awards (Hotels & Resorts, Historic Restoration, and Hospitality) in the Interior Design category. The MUSE Design Program, created by the International Awards Associate (IAA), established the MUSE Design Awards to honor excellence in design. Restored, renovated, and reimagined, the Kimpton Cottonwood resonates with a reverent respect for the former Blackstone Hotel’s historic legacy in Omaha. The hotel was built in 1915 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The project entailed historic renovation and 46,000 square feet of new construction to deliver an experiential luxury hotel with 205 guestrooms, two restaurants, three lounges, two ballrooms offering private outdoor terraces, an expansive fitness center, and a resort style (seasonal) outdoor pool and pool club. DLR Group provided interior design services and partnered with architect Leo A Daly for the completion of the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel project. The design goal was not recreation, but instead a celebration of the spirit and heritage of the original Blackstone Hotel. The fact that it is one of the fi rst Kimpton franchise properties led to a blending of old and new. The design maintains the original tile and hardwood flooring and includes meticulously restored design details such as the marble staircase, translucent photo mural of the Missouri River, and eighth floor ballroom with sweeping views of the city. McGill Restoration Acquisitions Expand Opportunity in Concrete Restoration Industry M c G i l l Re s t o r a t i o n , an industry leader in concrete and masonry r e p a i r, r e s t o r a t i o n , and construction based in Omaha, recently announced its acquisition of two new businesses. In two separate transactions, McGill Restoration purchased Wilkinson Sandblasting, an industrial coating and restoration company in central Nebraska; and Commercial Waterproofing, a concrete waterproofing business with offices in Oklahoma City and Wagoner, OK. The combination of McGill Restoration with Wilkinson and Commercial Waterproofing equips them to deliver outstanding year-round, scalable restoration capabilities and allows the company to offer a wider range of job opportunities. “We’d already grown so much in the Omaha and Lincoln areas and had a great reputation for quality work, which meant that we were able to capture lots of projects. We were ready to grow beyond the work we were successfully getting, and Oklahoma is a perfect fit. We are excited to bring the full package of largescale restoration capabilities that we offer to this market,” said Tim McGill, president of McGill Restoration. “Both the Wilkinson Industrial and the Commercial Waterproofing teams have the talent and experience that complement what McGill has to offer.” Since 1985, McGill Restoration has distinguished themselves with award-winning, nationally recognized projects, and they have a foundation of long-time customers. In 2015, McGill Restoration received the first of its four consecutive Inc. 5000 Awards for being one of the fastest growing (privately owned) companies in America. McGill Restoration still values the same philosophy and principles that started the company and believes strongly in their mission statement of “building relationships through craftsmanship.” To learn more, visit mcgillrestoration.com. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

BUsiness neWs sarpy chamber Reveals new Branding to Showcase the Organization’s Growth

true north improves culture and client Services with Traction and CliftonStrengths

The Sarpy Chamber is excited to unveil a new brand campaign reflecting the organization’s history and evolution. In the spring of 2021, the Sarpy Chamber worked with KidGlov, a marketing, branding, and advertising agency, as well as a marketing committee made up of six Sarpy Chamber board members. However, it was the Sarpy Chamber’s members and supporters who were the most important voice in the process. As part of the branding process, KidGlov conducted survey research to determine the qualities of the Sarpy Chamber that resonate most with the community. The initial discovery session gathered feedback from the board of directors and continued with follow-up surveys completed by community partners and engaged members. Survey results indicated members most valued the Sarpy Chamber’s ability to create connections, its commitment to inclusion, and empowerment through leadership. “Our stakeholders lead us to a new look with updated messaging that best reflects who we have always been; your unwavering advocate,” said President Karen Gibler. “The new look and messaging has been thoughtfully crafted to represent our core goals of empowerment, advocacy, and creating connections for the business community. We put our whole hearts into helping local businesses and we’re excited to have this new branding as a tool in building relationships.” To learn more about the Sarpy Chamber, visit sarpychamber.org.

TONEE

Tonee M. Gay

MIDLANDS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION Meet Tonee M. Gay, the executive director of the Midlands Community Foundation. Tell us a little about your business. - Midlands Community Foundation (MCF) is a catalyst for lasting impact in Sarpy and Cass counties, giving opportunities to organizations and individuals so they can pursue their charitable goals. We help foster relationships, provide trust and transparency, and we are a reliable resource for our service area. What has been your most important achievement professionally? - In an attempt to lessen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in our community, MCF established a Coronavirus Response Fund. As a community foundation, MCF designed the fund to complement the work of local public health, nonprofit, and government entities, and to expand local capacity to support individuals and families experiencing hardship because of the outbreak and related closures and disruptions. Within days of establishing this fund, monies were being distributed to provide emergency food, supplies, utility, and other financial help for the hardesthit households within Sarpy and Cass counties. MCF was able to help more than 50 nonprofit organizations. Tell us a little about your family. - I have been happily married to Tim Gay for more than 30 years. We have three beautiful children— Matthew, Kathryn, and Nicholas; a new son-in-law, Alex; and a soonto-be daughter-in-law, Cassie, in 2022. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I love to play tennis. It is my release! Who inspires you? - My husband. He is my partner, my strength, my voice of reason, my advocate, and my best friend. What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - The quote came from my high school accounting teacher. She would say, “Bloom where you are planted.” There is a lot of opportunity in this world and every step in your life prepares you for the next one. If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Team-player. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Landscape architect. I would like to learn more about plants, landscape design, and how it supports the environment. My happy day is usually strolling in a garden center or nursery admiring all the beautiful plants, shrubs, and trees. What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - This is an obvious one! I have been actively involved with Midlands Community Foundation as a volunteer since 1994 and executive director since 2005. MCF serves through its grants and discretionary gifts and has established over 160 charitable funds. We provide our donors and partners with high-quality service and engagement. As an organization, we are committed to transparency and accountability, and we operate with the highest standards of integrity and stewardship to ensure donor funds are effectively reinvested in improving the economic and social well-being of our community. MCF is proud to report that 91% of every dollar donated to the Foundation is used directly to supporting programming. What is your favorite movie? - My go-to movie is When Harry Met Sally. What is your favorite TV show? - Seinfeld. What is your favorite local restaurant? - Spezia. The wood-grilled salmon is “magnifico.” If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - (402) 991-8027; toneegay@midlandscommunity.org; www. midlandscommunity.org. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

STEVE

Steve Caffery

REDBOX+ OF OMAHA Meet Steve Caffery, operations manager at redbox+ of Omaha. Tell us a little about your business. - redbox+ provides commercial/ residential dumpster rental and waste management disposal services to Omaha clients and the surrounding areas. With our unique U.S. patented, one-of-kind toilet roll-off container combo, you will have everything you need at every project. Plus, our redbox+ Customer Care Standard means you won’t have to worry about on-time delivery, on-time pick up, or clean up when the job is done. How did you get started in the business? - Mark Fredrickson, CEO of redbox+ of Omaha, and I have been friends for several years. When I became furloughed indefinitely with the railroad, Mark asked if I would be interested in joining him on a new business venture. I researched the industry, and after several discussions with Mark, I decided to jump right in and haven’t looked back. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Business is hopping! My biggest challenge would definitely be managing my schedule and not letting my schedule manage me. Tell us a little about your family. - I have an amazing wife of 14 years, Lori. She is an administrator for a nonprofit organization called EducationQuest Foundation. We have a beautiful daughter, Kate, who is in eighth grade at Beadle Middle School in Millard. She loves cheer and volleyball, and keeping us on our toes. We also have two elderly rescue dogs—Lacy, a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, and Bella, a Papillon. My wife asked that I remind you to “Adopt, Don’t Shop!” What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - It would probably be meeting my wife and starting our family. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Spending time outside in the summer—maintaining our pool, doing yard work, taking care of my wife’s vegetable garden, and hosting fire pit nights with friends. What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” Life is too short to worry about things that we have no control over. If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Dedicated. If you had a theme song, what would it be? - “Livin on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. To me, it has always symbolized hope and faith. If you could have a super power, what would it be? - Flying for sure! Which talent would you most like to have? - Public speaking. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Something that would call me to help people, like maybe a police officer or firefighter. What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? The Nebraska Humane Society for sure. My wife, daughter, and I are huge advocates of pet adoption, especially the dogs that nobody else wants. Meet Chris Jones, the founder and CEO of Loophire. Tell us a little about your business. Loophire is a recruitment technology company that focuses on small- to mid-sized businesses to help them easily hire the best people quickly, at a price even the smallest company can afford. We have made an impact with the companies that don’t have the time, resources, or knowledge to hire efficiently, and it’s been very rewarding to see the success of the people we’ve helped them hire so far. How did you get started in the business? - I began as a recruiter almost 10 years ago after working in the bar business for most of my 20s. I started in an entry-level role that grew over the years with multiple companies. I then founded my own headhunting agency, CJM Recruitment Partners. After six years in the business, I launched Loophire in February 2021. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? Being the sole operator of a business while simultaneously funding a technology startup during a pandemic was a challenge, to put it lightly. What has been your most important achievement professionally? - Bringing Loophire to life as the sole founder has definitely been my biggest challenge and accomplishment to date. It required years of learning, planning, setbacks, and hardships to get to where we are today. It has been a very educational and rewarding process. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - About 15 years ago when I realized I wanted to create things and build businesses that made life better for everyone. I wasn’t sure what that was at the time, I just knew I wanted to be the one building it. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - I love being on the golf course. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I was a nightclub and casino host in Las Vegas for a couple of years in my 20s. Who inspires you? - The entrepreneur. From idea to fruition is such a challenging thing that I have so much respect and admiration for. What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - The Man in the Arena by Teddy Roosevelt. If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Heart. If you could have a super power, what would it be? - If I could manipulate time to have more of it, that would be wonderfully helpful. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Sports agent. The movie Jerry Maguire inspired me when I was like 10 years old. What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I’ve done quite a bit of work with Make-A-Wish over the years. It’s such a wonderful cause that brings positivity when families need it the most. What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? Principles by Ray Dalio. A very insightful read. What is your favorite local restaurant? - The Drover. If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - Elon Musk. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - (402) 401-7559, ext. 1; chris@loophire.com; loophire.com. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

peRsonnel neWs Board names Kalisha Reed interim executive Director of Youth Emergency Services The Youth Emergency Services (YES) Board of Directors has named Kalisha Reed to lead the organization as the interim executive director. Reed steps in for Mary Fraser Meints, who left the organization January 3. She will serve in this capacity while the board conducts a search for a permanent replacement. YES programs will operate business as usual during this time. “I’m excited to lead YES with the support of the YES Board of Directors, Trustees, and staff,” Reed said. “YES does amazing things in the community to help homeless and near-homeless youth, and we’re prepared to do even more great things moving forward.” Reed brings many years of leadership experience at various levels – including executive director – to her new role. She joined the YES team in October as the director of program services after serving as the executive director of Right Turn, which closed services in September 2021. During her time at Right Turn, Reed managed a budget of nearly $2 million, and developed and implemented a strategic plan to increase monthly referrals by 10%. She also actively sought partnerships outside of Omaha and Lincoln to strengthen the organization’s mission and vision, and researched, implemented, and launched the program’s first cloud-based data management and case documentation system. Prior to that, Reed served for five years with Children’s Respite Care Center (CRCC), first as the behavior Health Clinical manager/therapist and the final four years as the director of therapy operations. She also worked as a therapist and counselor with CHI Health, Heartland Family Service, Boys Town, and Girls, Inc. of Omaha. Reed holds two Master’s degrees – one in Organizational Performance and the other in Clinical Counseling – from Bellevue University, where she has been an adjunct instructor since 2018. Her bachelor’s degree is in Pre-Law with a minor in business from the College of Saint Mary. She is an advisor and board member of the Pre-Law Program at the College of Saint Mary as well as a member and mental health community liaison for the South Omaha Community Care Council. Youth Emergency Services is the only nonprofit in Omaha with the sole mission to help homeless and near-homeless youth in our community. Last year, YES provided support and services to hundreds of youth in the Omaha metro area. Many of these youth have been physically, emotionally or sexually abused, making it unsafe for them to return home. Without YES, these vulnerable young people cannot succeed independently. YES offers a full continuum of care to ensure all youth receive the support they need, no matter their situation. This includes a Street Outreach Center, Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Program, Prevention, Rapid Rehousing, Transition in Place (TIP), Making A Connection (MAC) and Maternity Group Home, among others. nonpRoFit neWs team Jack Foundation Marks 9 Years of Funding childhood Brain cancer Research

nAlA Recaps 2021, celebrates a successful Year of Animal Rescue

Nine years ago in January, the Team Jack Foundation officially became a registered 5 0 1 ( C ) ( 3 ) n o n p ro f i t with the mission to fund childhood brain cancer research. Andy and Brianna Hoffman founded the Team Jack Foundation after discovering the treatment options for their son Jack when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. They knew the research they funded would likely not benefit their child but wanted to create a different path for children in the future. As of January 1, 2013, they had already raised over $300,000 for research. Today, the Foundation has raised over $9.3 million and has funded 12 national and local research projects and counting. This includes one drug that is on the path to becoming the FIRST ever drug developed specifically for children with brain cancer, DAY 101. This doesn’t happen without the support of many, and, for that, Team Jack is forever grateful. The Foundation continues to be fueled by families affected by childhood brain cancer in Nebraska and across the United States. They are the reason for the fight. Team Jack Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that raises money to fund impactful childhood brain cancer research and works to raise national awareness for the disease. project harmony Raises Awareness for child sex trafficking, shares signs to look For January was National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and Project Harmony says that there’s no better time to educate yourself on the vital issue of child sex trafficking. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children responded to 10,719 reports of possible child sex trafficking in 2021. Although this number is staggeringly high, it also represents all the people who recognized the signs of this crime and took action to report it. Some signs of child sex trafficking include: a child in possession of large amounts of cash, prepaid cards, hotel keys, or multiple cell phones; the child’s ID being held by another person, or not having any ID; signs that the child has been coached when talking to people, letting others speak for them, or looking at others before they speak; tattoos that indicate money or ownership, such as “$” or barcodes; or evidence that the child has been living out of a suitcase, at motels, or in a car. Visit www.missingkids.org/ theissues/trafficking for a full list of indicators from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Project Harmony exists to protect and support children, collaborate with professionals, and engage the community to end child abuse and neglect. Their Anti-Trafficking Youth Services Program was established to assist the Omaha Police Department with their astronomical case load of youth at high risk to be sex trafficked. stephen center’s hearts that heal Donation Drive to take place February 7-18 With the help of community partners, Stephen Center is celebrating Valentine’s Day by encouraging the public to show some love to the homeless through the Hearts that Heal donation drive. The event will be held February 7-18. “Stephen Center relies on donations of hygiene items, coffee, cereal, and more to care for hundreds of people on our campus every day,” Executive Director Michael Wehling said. “Winter is usually a slower time for donations, so we can use all the support we can get.” Stephen Center needs donations of: paper towels; toilet paper; over-the-counter medications (ibuprofen, acetaminophen); cough drops; coffee; cereal; feminine hygiene products; hand sanitizer; and disinfectant wipes. To participate in the drive, community members can drop off items at Stephen Center’s Donation Dock (2723 Q St.), or at a drive host site (visit www.stephencenter.org/hearts for a list). A virtual drive, allowing people to shop from home and ship directly to Stephen Center, is also available at www.stephencenter.org/hearts. Located in South Omaha, Stephen Center serves the homeless, addicted, and those in poverty. The campus includes a homeless emergency shelter, inpatient/outpatient co-occurring treatment, and permanent supportive housing for disabled and low-income individuals. Resilient, the 2022 Annual Release Gala with Honorary Chairs Rhonda and Howard Hawks, is scheduled for Thursday, April 28 at the Embassy Suites La Vista Hotel & Conference Center and promises to be an uplifting and memorable event. That’s why Release is inviting event sponsors to add to their sponsorships an additional table ($750) to be filled with foster parents to bless and encourage them. Mia taylor Foundation embarks on educational Environmental Sustainability Journey

new Year, new cookie season for MicAh house girl scout troop #64224

The Mia Taylor Foundation was recently founded in 2021 as a registered nonprofit organization that raises money to fund scholarships, experiential learning opportunities for students, and provide education relating to environmental sustainability. The Mia Taylor Foundation was started by Shane Taylor following the tragic death of his daughter, who was a pre-med student at the College of Saint Mary, minoring in environmental sustainability. The Foundation’s commitment to the world begins with education, as a belief that there is a fundamental link between human health and the health of our planet. They seek to overcome barriers and criticism of environmental stability initiatives in attempt to bring people together for the common good of a healthy planet for generations to come. They are working towards advanced educational opportunities that will provide Nebraska businesses, companies, and corporations the opportunity to hire and employ graduates who can assist with improving their environmental footprint. Aside from working to improve our environment, The Mia Taylor Foundation is also committed to helping those in need, which include adopting a senior in need during the holidays campaign, as well as helping to place books in the hands and homes of children from low-income and impoverished families. The Mia Taylor Foundation looks forward to continue building upon the legacy that Mia Taylor left behind by continuing her dedication, devotion, and passion to the environment and nature conservation. Girl Scout Troop #64224 at MICAH House is gearing up for another cookie season beginning in early February. Last year, their troop sold to all 50 states, and made national news by selling 27,196 boxes! This is quite a feat for the troop who sold less than 1,000 boxes their first year in 2018. The theme for this year is to pay-it-forward. MICAH House is encouraging folks to get two boxes, then make someone’s day by giving them one. MICAH House is proud to offer a Girl Scout troop to school-age girls living at the homeless shelter. Unlike many traditional troops, their meetings are held where the girls eat, sleep, and live. Some girls choose to continue with the MICAH House troop even after their families have found safe and stable housing. This Girl Scout experience can help girls gain confidence, practice leadership, and learn life skills. They currently have 10 girls in the program aged 11 and under. Watch MICAH House’s Facebook (@MicahHouseIowa) for news on their troop. Founded in 1986, MICAH House is a transitional homeless shelter that serves families and women in the Omaha-metro area and southwest Iowa. If you are looking for cookies this February and March, consider MICAH House troop #64224 by visiting www. themicahhouse.org and pay-it-forward! The American Red Cross is asking local businesses, organizations, or faith communities to consider working with them to host a blood drive. They are currently facing the worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care. Doctors have been forced to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available. Blood and platelet donations are critically needed to help prevent further delays in vital medical treatments. When choosing to host a blood drive, you only need to provide a large open room with enough space to ensure donor privacy; volunteers for recruiting, scheduling, and supporting donors; and the donors themselves. Don’t wait until something in your building gets worn out, breaks, or springs a leak – stay ahead of the trouble by performing routine building maintenance. It’s important to be proactive for several reasons. First, a well maintained building will retain the value of the property. Second, it will be more pleasing to the eye, which can attract and keep both employees and customers. Finally, it is financially beneficial and can save you money in the long run by avoiding expensive replacements. According to global commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield, running your equipment to the point of failure can cost up to 10 times the price of a good maintenance program. In order to have a successful business, you must have a building that is in good working condition, so we went straight to the experts to learn more about how you can stay on top of your building maintenance. find Peace of Mind with beLfOr beLfOr Property restoration provides disaster recovery and property restoration services to Omaha and the surrounding areas. Though they often come in after the damage is done, BELFOR provides services to help you maintain your home or building and prevent major problems from taking over. They offer site specific preparedness plans, in which they will perform a walk-through of the property, identifying potential areas of concern, and will determine how to address the areas and prevent any further issues. These plans also pinpoint specific needs of the customer and their property. “The documentation within the plan will assist not only the property owner, but also BELFOR with allowing our team to quickly identify areas or things of high importance that require immediate attention,” said Estimator Tanner McDonnell. A monthly check of your property can and will go a long way in the longevity of your home and business. Tanner suggests scheduling reminders in your calendar; similar to the reminder stickers you place in your vehicle as a way to remember to maintain it, remind yourself to take the time to inspect your property.

“Making sure your dryer vents and range hoods are cleaned and functioning properly is important in fire prevention,” Tanner advised. “Changing filters to provide cleaner air for customers, tenants, and owners will also ensure the longevity and health of your HVAC system. efficient in recent years. They can give a property owner a great perspective as well, compared to just still photos taken from a roof. Another great service BELFOR has been providing recently is COVID-19 disinfecting due to positive or potential cases within businesses and other properties. “Maintaining the cleanliness of your property will give you and your customers peace of mind knowing that any potential contamination has been properly cleaned and disinfected.” avoid back ups and Leaks with Plumbing Maintenance Don’t put off quick plumbing fixes that will lead to major issues later on. big birge Plumbing often sees small plumbing issues get overlooked, which later results in a system failure – and a much higher cost to fix. “Ignoring the small issues that are actually quick fixes only leads to long, pricey repairs,” said Lallenia birge, owner. “In addition to this, we also often see people try to fix things themselves, usually in an attempt to save some money – even though they have no experience working with plumbing systems! Both of these occurrences will only hurt your plumbing system and make for a costlier repair.” There are also major health risks associated with bad plumbing systems. Lallenia recommends having an inspection each year, as it is likely to prevent any issues while also allowing you to know that your building is energy efficient and safe for your occupants. Lack of care to your plumbing system can cause pipes to leak, which can lead to issues with mildew or mold, or even water contamination. Lallenia Birge Big Birge Plumbing

If you are seeing clogged drains, gurgling sounds in your drain, water pressure that is too high or low, water that gets hot very slowly (or not at all), or appliances that move slowly (such as a dishwasher that takes much longer than intended), it’s time to call a plumber. Whether it’s commercial or residential plumbing, Big Birge can handle the job! Maintenance for fire Safety fireGuard, Inc. can inspect, maintain, and repair fire-alarm systems, kitchen-hood systems, fire extinguishers, fire-sprinkler systems, backflows, and special hazard systems. They also have a specialized team dedicated to the design and installation of fire-alarm systems. Many of the maintenance and safety services that FireGuard provides are required by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). “In Nebraska, you are required to have your fire alarm, kitchen hood, special hazard, and clean agent systems inspected twice a year,” said Owner Lori Sorensen. “Fire sprinkler systems, backflows, and fire extinguishers require an annual inspection. Not having these annual and semi-annual inspections done puts your building and the people who occupy it at risk, and the cost of a potential fire in comparison to keeping up to date on these inspections is insurmountable.”

From a simple residential thermostat to a complex web-based building automation system, they support and stock the Honeywell parts you need. “The purpose of building automation controls is to provide control of the HVAC, lighting, and safety systems in a building; think ‘smart building’ and ‘smart home,’” explained Vice President Jeff Killeen. “Whether working with residential homeowners or commercial businesses, we both sell basic products and replacements, and help growing businesses integrate their own solutions for building control technology.” To keep up with company growth, you must Jeff Killeen Control Depot keep up with the technology. Similarly, Control Depot’s staff must be knowledgeable of these technologies to best serve their clients, which is why they have assembled a team of qualified individuals whose goal is to assist each customer with personal service rooted in experience. “Our primary goal is to offer the necessary systems and replacement parts that will provide a safe, comfortable working environment, as well as cut wasteful energy costs,” Jeff said. “We are helping companies become more sustainable and improve their bottom lines.” More Than Just Curb Appeal If your building isn’t properly maintained on the outside, it’s not going to draw people in to check out the inside. For commercial buildings, this could result in turning away potential clients, and for homeowners, curb appeal goes down – which is especially risky in the event you want to sell your home! Stonebrook Exterior is a commercial and residential exterior construction company that specializes in whole building envelope solutions, providing multiple trades or scopes of work into a single contract. Business Development Manager TwiLea Fletcher told us that exterior work is more than just updating the curb appeal.

TwiLea Fletcher Stonebrook Exterior

“If you don’t maintain the exterior of your home or business, it shortens the life of the building,” said Twilea. “Planned inspections of all systems will provide opportunities to extend their life. The price of not taking preventative measures creates higher repair and replacement costs for integrated systems that fail permanently.” TwiLea suggested having multiple analyses done on your building before proceeding with exterior maintenance or replacement. Consider the company that encourages and practices valueengineering strategies, as Stonebrook does. “We perform an extensive customer-needs analysis for each project with which we are engaged,” TwiLea said. “We take each opportunity and consider all the aspects of what the customer wants, needs, and has budgeted. Whether we are adding value by helping you select the most aesthetically impressive or environmentally-friendly exterior applications or implementing long-term strategies that will help minimize your total cost-of-ownership, we are accountable for the success of your project.”

Senior Living While there is not a specific age to qualify an individual as a “senior citizen,” Western cultures typically begin to use this term at ages 60-65. Many who reach this age are still in good health and continue to live independently at home. Others may find themselves in need of some assistance with certain activities, or their health deteriorating due to diseases such as dementia. Regardless of your age and health, or that of a family member’s, it’s never too early to begin planning for senior care. One of the biggest pieces of advice that we receive from senior living services and facilities is to start planning right away. You never know when care is going to be needed. Unanticipated events, such as a negative diagnosis or an injury, can cause one’s health and independence to diminish quickly. However, no one is ever upset that they came into an unexpected event prepared! When you choose to begin planning, it can be overwhelming when looking at your options for senior care. According to the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL), there are 200 assisted living communities in the state of Nebraska. Remember, that number just represents assisted living communities – it doesn’t go into all of the other senior living services available in Nebraska, such as independent living communities, at-home care, and health care services. If the thought of planning for your future or that of your aging loved one’s causes you to feel overwhelmed, you’re not alone – that’s why we spoke to experts from senior living businesses and services right here in our community to help you get a better understanding of what is available in the Omaha area and how they can help you or your loved one continue to thrive in their later stages of life. Specialized Memory Care Homes According to the AHCA and the NCAL, 35% of assisted living residents in Nebraska have Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. When a large percentage of the assisted living population is living with dementia, it’s important that there are communities available that specialize in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Here are a couple local communities that can provide exceptional memory care for your loved one. Prairie Meadows alzheimer’s Care Center Don Woods is a part of the Midwest region’s Frontier Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Care Center Senior Living community. The community #PrintProudDigitalSmart

is also comprised of High Plains in Lincoln and Glen Oaks in Urbandale, IA. Prairie Meadows specializes in memory care and provides exceptional person-centered holistic care to residents with cognitive impairment. “We pride ourselves on offering a 24/7 on-site nurse,” said Marketing Director Don Woods. “This goes far beyond the minimal regulations of eight hours a day, and it eliminates any stress and anxiety a family may have when placing their loved one in memory care.”

Another great feature of Prairie Meadows is their award-winning Spark Program, which is designed to use Montessori methods related to individualized programming. This unique program caters to the individuals living within their community. “Our goal is to be a resource for everyone, whether you or a loved one is affected by dementia or not,” said Don. “We offer an Alzheimer’s support group to help those in need. We also want to further educate the community about Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and get them involved in supporting organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association.” CountryHouse residence for Memory Care, a community by Agemark Senior Living, believes that quality of life can be enhanced in the right environment, and that by triggering positive memories, finding common connections, and stimulating the mind, body, and spirit, they can make the most of each day for residents, staff, and families. “When you are looking at memory care communities, prioritize concepts such as safety and security, access to medical care, activities that promote interaction and socializing, and programs that are designed specifi cally for residents with dementia,” said Marcia Houchin, Agemark’s national director of life enrichment. “What may be most important, though, is fi nding a place where your loved one will actually feel at home. This is something that CountryHouse takes Marcia houchin seriously.” countryhouse Residence If you have a loved one that may be for Memory Care in need of memory care in the future, you may be wondering what timeline you should be following to ensure that your loved one is well taken care of. Marcia first explained that you should consult a doctor when you see a loved one struggling with basic cognitive abilities; while most forms of dementia cannot be cured, there are treatments that can slow the progression and ways to manage symptoms and behaviors. Early diagnosis enables families to begin intervention and make plans for the future. “Dementia is a progressive decline,” Marcia began. “Its initial symptoms may be gradual, and there may not be an immediate need to seek memory care. As the decline continues, however, you may come to believe that your loved one needs a stable memory care environment. You never know how severe your loved one’s decline will be, so it’s wise to prepare by looking at your memory care options sooner than later.” at-Home Care Sometimes, your loved one just needs a little bit of assistance to continue to live comfortably in their own home. This is when you give a call to right at Home. They are a local home care agency that allows seniors to remain in their homes and live independently. Whether it’s a once a week visit to help with grocery shopping and light housekeeping, or 24-hour support, Right at Home is here to help you. “Each client and case is different,” said alyssa Jelinek, director of community relations. “Our philosophy is the right care at the right time. Therefore, we offer all levels of care – companionship, personal care, and specialty services including medication administration and management.” Right at Home creates detailed care plans specifi c to each client, their individual needs, and their budget. These care plans include fun activities or hobbies of the senior to ensure they are enjoying life to Alyssa Jelinek the fullest. Of course, this couldn’t be done Right at home without their professional caregivers. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

navigate the complexities of probate and trust administration. While Elder Law does include estate planning, it extends beyond that to encompass other areas of importance to seniors and their families.

“Many of our clients have been with us for multiple generations,” says founding partner anne burnett, “and we take great pride in the fact that they choose to rely on us.”

For most families, planning a loved one’s move into a senior living facility includes a careful analysis of their finances. The average cost of assisted living in Nebraska is $4,188 and for nursing homes the average cost is $7,194 a month. Many families lack the ability to “private pay” out of their own resources to cover these exorbitant costs. This is where the attorneys at burnett Wilson Law, LLP can help. The lawyers on their Elder Law team have expertise in long-term care planning, including the use of revocable and irrevocable trusts, Medicaid, and Veterans Benefits.

all your Senior Living resources – In One Place! CCa Home Care is an in-home care agency providing a Nurse Registry, in which they screen and refer CNA caregivers who work directly for their client as an independent contractor. The care is client-directed, ensuring the specific daily needs of your loved one are being met. With no hourly minimums or up-front deposits, CCA Home Care is affordable and can fit budgets of all sizes.

The Elder Law attorneys of Burnett Wilson Law also assist families in dealing with situations such as caring for a disabled relative or protecting a senior with dementia from financial and other forms of abuse. Tools such as a “special needs trust” or a “guardianship” can be crucial in such situations. There are many attorneys, even those practicing in the estate planning field, who have little familiarity with these tools and therefore risk steering clients down the wrong path.

CCA Home Care provides a valuable resource to the Omaha community through the production of their ElderCare Resource Handbook. The handbook is an all-inclusive listing of services, programs, and other resources available for the aging in each area. By understanding the services, resources, and options which are available locally, they hope seniors and their families can make informed decisions which have the potential to enhance their quality of life and independence.

“We think we bring added value to our clients,” says Burnett Wilson Law attorney David Thompson. “Because we help families in so many ways all the time, we are familiar with the range of services available in our communities and can provide useful information about where to find them.”

From government and financial services, to medical support and living options, to home health care and end of life services, the ElderCare Resource Handbook can help seniors throughout all stages of senior living. CCA Home Care offers both an Omaha and Lincoln-specific handbook, so be sure to check out both to really understand all of the amazing senior living options we have in our local area!

The Elder Law attorneys at Burnett Wilson Law have experience dealing with all of these issues. They know what to expect when navigating the world of senior services, and they take great care to be sure that their clients receive expert advice tailored to their specific circumstances.

Everyone wants to continue to be healthy and live comfortably as they age. These local businesses and experts have the tools and resources to help you and your loved one do just that. From assisted living communities to home care to elder law, they each have so much more for senior living than what we can fit on paper, so be sure to reach out to them to learn more about what they can offer to you and your family.

Greenlife Gardens chose to use Linctrac almost 10 years ago because he was local and we could actually talk to someone we knew lived in the area. Kelly is always willing to meet us at our office or where we need him and always answers his phone which is a bonus nowadays. It is very easy to use and follow our trucks. The gps system has increased our efficiencies and help solve many problems when needed. The price for the GPS systems is always competitive and we have never found anybody to beat his prices and service. He personally drives out to the vehicle and changes out the GPS system whenever we buy a new truck. Kelly has built his business on relationships and cares about the clients he works with and this is why we appreciate LincTrack!”
