It was a lazy Saturday. Monisha and her friends Tara, Catherine and Priya were watching Chhotaa Bheem when Monisha’s brother, Ajith, came home. Ajith came in, took the remote and started changing channels. “We want to watch Chota Bheem!”, the girls shrieked.

“Enna da!” said Ajith. “Bada Singham is coming at 3 o’clock. Your favourite hero, Surya is in it.” “Surya!” Monisha shrieked louder than the others.

Just then the TV started to flicker. Then the screen fizzled and fluttered. Monisha knew immediately what the problem was. Stomping outside she saw some boys playing cricket. They had hit the cable wires again. “Why don’t you go and play somewhere else?” shouted Monisha. “Why don’t you go and watch cartoons somewhere else?” retorted John, the gang leader. The other boys sneered and sniggered. “Why don’t you stop jumping like a monkey on hot coals!” replied a very angry Monisha.

11

Soon both the groups started shouting at each other, each group getting angrier and angrier. Then one of the boys ran and pulled out the cable wire completely. The girls were stunned. John and his friends burst out laughing and ran away.

13

Not to be out done, the girls bravely chased them. As John ran around a corner he saw some stray dogs. He called them and made them charge at the girls. Screaming, the girls ran back to Monisha’s house.

15

Monisha was very upset. The boys had made fun of her and her friends and to top it all, she had missed the movie starring Surya. The girls sat in silence. Then they heard some commotion outside. Peeking out, they saw a big truck and many cars. Their neighbors were excitedly coming out on the street. The girls joined them eager to discover what was happening. A movie shoot was being set up! Right in front of Monisha’s house! The girls looked around, too thrilled to talk. An important looking man came up them, “Hello. Would you girls like to be in the movie?” Monisha and her friends squealed, “Yes! Yes!”

17

John suddenly appeared near them. He wanted to be in the movie too. But the important looking man said the scene only needed some girls. How the girls giggled! They were standing near a van when its door opened. Lo and behold! There stood Surya, Monisha’s hero! She was dumbstruck.

19

Then something caught her eye. John had come with a pack of dogs behind him. It was the same stunt he had tried earlier. They were running straight at her....no, not at her‌ at her hero...at Surya! Monisha rushed, grabbed a camera stand and swung at the charging dogs.

21

Surya was saved but one jumped on her and she fell. But others quickly came and chased the dogs away. Surya came to Monisha. He helped her stand up and saw that her elbow was grazed. Making her sit under his umbrella he had her elbow cleaned and bandaged.

23

When all was well, Surya shot the scene with the girls. And for Monisha, she even got to speak a dialogue with Surya! Later that evening a car arrived at Monisha’s doorstep. Surya had arranged a surprise picnic at Marina Beach for them. And that is how a lazy Saturday turned into the most exciting day of Monisha’s life.
