STOKESDALE - The Stokesdale Town Council appointed a new member at their January meeting. Local resident Gary Albert has been chosen to fill the open seat on the council that was created when council member Randy Braswell was elected mayor in November. Albert has been a long-time resident of Stokesdale and used to own the Stokesdale Carquest Auto Parts store in town before he sold it and retired. By The Star STOKESDALE - The editor of The Star newspaper has released a new book that includes some of his favorite stories from working as a reporter over the last two decades. Entitled “Moonshine, Mountain Climbers, & Monsters,” the book includes 17 chapters that are standalone stories that Randall Gregg wrote over the years. Included in the book are chapters that include an interview with Apollo 11 astronaut “Buzz” Aldrin, talking with Craig Newmark who is the founder of Craigslist, and helping famed NASCAR racer and moonshiner “Junior” Johnson push his #3 Chevy out of the Museum of History. Also in the book are stories from Gregg’s embedded reporting overseas with the 82nd Airborne from Fort Bragg and reporting from Port au Prince after the earthquake in Haiti. Other chapters include an interview with a climber who survived the “summer of death” on Mt. Everest, an afternoon with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, and a profile of the late Andrew Britton, a soldier, son, and best-selling spy novelist. In the book, he also talks with a soldier who drove over an IED in Iraq and lived to tell about it, an onsite report from an expedition to recover cannons from Blackbeard’s shipwreck, and more. GREENSBORO - Time Warner Cable, which provides the cable and Internet service for much of Guilford County, lost a record number of customers nationwide last year, says the Wall Street Journal. The company lost 825,000 customers nationwide last year who quit using the service or switched to satellite. Many of the customers left when there was a squabble between CBS and Time Warner, causing a blackout of CBS stations.
