By The Star OAK RIDGE - A new donut shop has opened up in Oak Ridge behind the Village Store at the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 150. Granny’s Donuts, which also has locations in Thomasville, High Point, and Kernersville, is up and running. The store opened on January 21st. The store pretty has everything donut related. They have donuts that are glazed, chocolate iced, coconut, The store also has coffee, smoothies, sprinkles, eclairs, cinnamon rolls, and other kinds of drinks. cinnamon twists, chocolate creme, krullers, bear claws, butterflies, cherry fritters, apple fritters, raspberry-filled, custard-filled, chocolate chip squares, and more. They also have donut holes including red velvet flavored ones. In addition to pastries, they also have chai lattes, green tea smoothies, bubble gum milkshakes, ice frappes, chai amore, and more. The store is open 7 days a week and they’re open on Mondays to Saturday from 6am to 8pm and on Sundays from 7am to 5:30pm. For special orders, the store’s phone is 336-643-9591. ::
Guilford Co. Food Notes: Eggs In Summerfield, Pickled Peppers, & Shrimp and Grits GUILFORD COUNTY – Summerfield Farms on Pleasant Ridge Road not far from the fire station is now selling eggs again. The farm says that they have some new chickens who are now producing eggs. The eggs are for sale at their open air store on the property, along with meat from the cows which are raised on the 500 acre farm as well.

Planning for a Superbowl party, someone told us of a great appetizer -- bison sliders. You can now buy authentic bison meat in the grocery stores. Bison meat has less fat than normal beef and has no antibiotics, etc. and they are usually raised free range. Cooked over a grill, you also can add cheese, mayonnaise, and if you want to try a “California” version, you can add a slice of avocado and onions as well. A unique and great tasting treat!
We recently tried the new shrimp and grits dish at StokeRidge Tavern and Grill and thought it tasted pretty good. It has shrimp, sausage, grits, and bacon topped by a very delicious sauce. The grits are made from those ground at the Old Mill in Oak Ridge.
