Summerfield Announces Plans For Founders’ Day SUMMERFIELD - The Town of Summerfield says that Summerfield’s 18th annual Founders’ Day Festival will celebrate a new venue this May 16 and 17 at the Summerfield Athletic Park at 5200 US 220 North. The fun begins at 6pm Friday and lasts until 10pm. Saturday’s festivities will begin with a 10am parade on Summerfield Road and then move to the athletic park with extended hours until 8pm. The parade time and location have not changed, but it will travel north on Summerfield Road this year. Attendees will have ample parking and shuttled access to Summerfield Athletic Park to kick off a full day with rides and attractions, live music and entertainment, exhibits, camel and pony

Stokesdale Council Member Resigns Due To Wife’s Illness

STOKESDALE - Just a few weeks after being appointed to the Stokesdale Town Council, council member George Albert announced at the end of the March meeting that he was tendering his resignation. Albert had been appointed by the council to fill a vacant spot earlier this year on the council after council member Randy Braswell was elected mayor in the elections. Albert had sought a seat on the council in the November election but was unsuccessful. At the March meeting, Albert said his wife had recently received some medical results and that she had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. While she was

able to travel, Albert said they would be going on trips and as such, he would be out of town quite a bit. After Albert made his announcement, the other Stokesdale Town Council members wished Ablert and his wife the best under the circumstances. “Our prayers go out to you,” said council member Frank Bruno. No official replacement for Albert has been named. Previously, the town accepted applications for the open town council seat and it is likely to do so again, although that has not been officially announced. The town may also select a replacement of its own choosing. ::

OAK RIDGE - The Oak Ridge Military Academy announced earlier this year that one of its students won a prestigious award that is named after one of America’s best known military leaders. Each year the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation presents an award to the outstanding cadets of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools. The objective is to encourage the students of the member institutions to emulate and practice the leadership qualities that embody duty, honor, and country as exemplified by Douglas

MacArthur as a cadet at the West Texas Military Institute and at the United States Military Academy. One cadet in each senior ROTC and junior ROTC can be nominated. Sarah Freeman of Oak Ridge Military Academy said the school was proud to announce that ORMA’s recipient of the Douglas MacArthur Cadet Award is C/MAJ Benjamin Locker. He will receive a desktop medallion embossed with a likeness of General MacArthur, a distinctive pin to wear on his uniform, a copy of the book “The General”, and a check for $50.00 for this prestigious award. ::
